Deards joins Knitters on loan

Promising Walsall teenager Connor Deards has completed a one-month loan switch to Blue Square Bet North side Hinckley United.

The 18-year-old striker, a first-year professional, links up with the Blue Square Bet North outfit having impressed while on loan at fellow local side Redditch earlier in the season.

Birmingham-born Deards has graduated through the Saddlers' youth system and penned his first pro deal last summer.

Meanwhile, Walsall manager Dean Smith has been nominated for League One's manager of the month award for December.

Smith, who guided the club to victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day as well as draws against Charlton, Chesterfield and Rochdale, will be up against Danny Wilson, Graham Westley and Russell Slade, with the winner to be announced on Friday.
