Dean Smith is convinced he can save Walsall from the drop but says he needs his players to start backing up his belief with actions.
The struggling Saddlers, who survived on the final day of last season, are facing another desperate relegation battle having won only one of their last 15 league games.
Tuesday night's 1-0 home defeat to Notts County was only their first defeat in 10, with draws dominating of late, but manager Smith was left to rue the Jekyll and Hyde nature of his side's display.
"The first half was nowhere near what we expect, and I don't know where that came from because our recent form has been decent," he said. "In the second half I thought we were a totally different team and should have got something out of the game.
"I told my players at half-time it wasn't good enough, but the second-half performance was more what we are about. I am confident we shall get out of trouble but the lads have got to start doing something about it themselves."
Walsall had a 75th-minute equaliser by George Bowerman ruled out because of a Manny Smith foul on County keeper Stuart Nelson, but Smith insisted: "There was nothing wrong with the goal. It should have been given."
