Smith: Fond memories

Smith: Fond memories

Walsall boss Dean Smith joked he will "bring a bat out and raise it" as he prepares for his 100th game in charge of the club.

The Saddlers face Lincoln on Tuesday night in their FA Cup replay as Smith reaches his ton of games 22 months after his appointment.

Despite twice narrowly avoiding relegation and with a third fight seemingly on the cards, the 41-year-old insists he wouldn't change a thing.

"I remember my first game well. I was with Jon Whitney on the bench, we're 3-1 down at Tranmere and I'm saying 'I can see why we're in this position,"' he told the club's official website.

"There have been plenty of highlights. Staying up both seasons, the win against Bristol Rovers (6-1) the win against Southampton (1-0) - there have been some really important games.

"There have been some tests at times but I wouldn't change anything. Everything I have done has been for the right reason in my mind at the time - hindsight is a wonderful thing but if you're doing things for the right reasons you don't go far wrong."
