If we are truely interested in a forward then why not Berahino??
Apparantly available for approx £15mil, not happy at West Brom and they seem to be open for business.
His style of play suits us and he scored 20 goals last season. Still only 22.
Of the available strikers out there this month, he’s the pick of the bunch. Could play in a front 3.
If we are really serious about turning this around then surely we have to be in for him?!

I don’t like the way the window has gone so far and I’m starting to doubt that we’ll make even one significant signing which seem to be the pattern for January windows. It seems that we’re interested in stop-gaps to get us through the injury crisis in the hope that we’ll do the rebuilding in the summer. Hopefully FSG have some plan to take in quality players but it’s looking more likely as the window progresses.

Our lack of goals and inability to convert chances is extremely worrying.
We are swamped by midfielders who don’t really score, arguably started with 6 against a poor Utd team.
We need players who can out the ball in the net.
As proven last season Berahino can certainly do that.
He seems to tick all the boxes we want out of a forward.

Decisions are gonna have to be made on Sturridge and Bentekes future in the summer. I imagine one will be sold. If we can replace one of them now with a player that’s young, reasobably priced and available then why not?

I like Berahino. Young, quick,a lot more mobile than the likes of Benteke, and he knows how to finish. I’d rather pay £15m for him than £12m for Shane Long. Knowing our luck though,we will mess around for ages, and he will end up signing for Tottenham. He’s the quality of striker we should be looking at

If we are gonna stick to this 4-3-3 then we need goalscorers in the front 3.
Berahino scores goals and can play in at least 2 of the font 3 positions.
He’s available, he’s gettable, he’s reasonably priced, he scores goals, he’s young, he’s very mobile and he’s fast.
Perhaps not as a first choice central striker but he can defo improve our front 3.

As ever, Ginger, I agree with you! At the right club and with the right coaching he could be very good (maybe as good as Sturridge). Having said that, I really don’t think it will happen this January, I’m afraid.

He is actually one of the few players in the market that would make sense. Especially considering how FSG operate in the market, young player with potential, signing him on a 5 year contract would bump his value up to 40 million.

Youknighted- did you guess Sturridge was as good as he is (when fit) when he was at City or Chelsea??
Of course he had talent but he only really came to life properly at Liverpool.
Berahino is a year younger now than Sturridge was when he joined in Jan 13 and the lad has already hit 20 goals in a season.
At approx £15mil I defo think he’s someone we should be looking hard at.

Berahino is a good player but has problems with his attitude, although that may not be an issue under the right manager. Also his goal scoring record is a bit average, 1 in 3 (over 6 seasons).

What about Inaki Williams of Blibao, whom to me is a far better prospect?

He is only 21, has pace, works really hard and is quite tall and strong with 10 goals in 21 games so far this season, from the wing. I was watching Spanish football a few weeks ago and had to find out who he was as he was so good!!!

Also he is a Spain U21 international, and even City are watching him. I just get the feeling he might explode in years to come.

    Exactly Bingo.
What if we spend £15mil bringing him in, he then hits 20 goals next season as he’s shown he can do?? The chances we create he’d love it.
    He’ll automatically be a £30+mil striker.
If we keep him for 2 years and he doesn’t hit the heights then how much really are we gonna lose on him.
Even if he hits 10-12 goals a season, a target that’s very achievable, then he’d be a success considering the money spent.

And I think it would be a fair guess that he is unsettled at WBA not fully focused as he has been looking for a move away from them for the better part of two seasons now.

I don’t like player that can have their head turned in the blink of a eye but he has fulfilled his obligation to WBA even though his heart has not been with them.

10 goals from him would be enough considering the transfer fee.

This guy is a very lazy kind of striker.

What I mean by that, is he doesn’t get involved in build-up play. Usually he’ll have only 10-15 touches of the ball in a whole 90 minutes. It works ok in a counter-attacking / long-ball style, but he’s probably be a disaster in a Liverpool shirt. Apparently he has a terrible attitude, and a terrible agent too 😉

youknighted – I don’t mean he’s as good as Sturridge right now, though actually thinking about it, he’s better than Sturridge right now! But I do think he has potential to be as good in a year or two.

As far as Williams is concerned, Songman, my worry there would be that we have another Origi, i.e. young, doesn’t speak the language, not used to the Premiership, and therefore takes time to settle, maybe a year or more. Berahino doesn’t have those concerns, except he’s young!

jc – his attitude is an interesting one. I believe he had the same agent as Sterling and we all know what a knob he is, but I understand he sacked him last year. He has been angling for a move for a while now, but I think a move away from Pulis to a bigger club would sort that out (no disrespect intended to the Baggies).

I think he would be worth a punt.

Hightown, in my opinion, Berahino will never be in the class of Sturridge.

Also there is not much to compare btw Williams and Origi. Firstly Origi is a striker who was far from prolific in France, while Williams is a winger who is a prolific goalscorer from the wing.

Also language is not an issue as Origi is fluent in English, as is Williams.

Although like any other player from abroad it can take time to settle in the physical Premiership, so that is where the risk is.

I wasn’t comparing their positions, more their youth and the fact that they are new to the Premiership and the country and the city. I note your point about them both speaking the lingo, and that’s a start, but for young kids to come over and hit the ground running is asking a lot in my opinion.

The difference with Berahino is that he has already played I would guess 60 games in the Premiership and is well used to English football and its physicality

Hightown, yes indeed, even experienced players from abroad can find it tough to adapt to the tough, physical and fast Premiership.

However Williams has the key attributes of pace, strength and height that are useful in the Premiership. Also many Premiership clubs are supposedly after him, so that shows he must have something

Hightown, what is there to sort out? It is attitude and personality that we have been lacking recently. I would welcome everyone’s favourite (think Owen/Linaker), the guy who knows what his markers are and always delivers. Equally, I would welcome the busy, irritating, selfish individual (think Ronaldo/Bellamy) who lives and breathes to put the ball in the net.You can’t have it all. Would you prefer the Joe Allen type personality/attitude? Apart from ability, a winning team requires a level of edginess, nastiness in adversity (think Smith/Souness). On ability, achievement and personality, if Suarez, why not Berahino?

I don’t think he’s the answer. And no, I don’t know who is. I thought Benteke would be but we don’t seem able to play to his strengths. We have the most unbalanced, mucked up squad in the league. I think Jurgen has bit off more than he can chew. No manager in the world could do anything with this piss poor squad. We are pure dog muck and I’m starting to think FSG are out of their depth.

I think he could do a job for us and he fits the “moneyball” criteria beloved of our owners, attitude issues aside I’d buy him if it were me and I’m sure JK could handle him far better than that tosser Pulis does. YNWA JFT96
