Mohamed Diame: Quits the international scene

Mohamed Diame has retired from international football to concentrate on his career at Newcastle.

The 29-year-old Senegal midfielder has decided not to play for his country again after winning the last of his 36 senior caps against Algeria in January at the African Nations Cup.

Diame told the BBC: “I believe that there are now 23 Senegalese players in better shape.

“After much thought and consideration, I feel that now is the appropriate time to focus fully on my club career.”

Diame joined Newcastle from Hull during the summer and has made 33 appearances for the promotion-chasing club so far this season.
