Gary Waddock blamed Wycombe's defending as the reason for their relegation to League Two after a stunning 4-3 defeat to Notts County.

Wanderers looked set for a 3-2 victory until two late goals from the visitors consigned Waddock's outfit to a return to League Two after just one season.

"I think that performance just summed the season up, where we've competed against a good side which we've done throughout the season," he said. "But we've conceded far too many goals and that has meant we've not been able to pick up the points total that we've needed.

"We've scored goals, but as a group we've conceded far too many and we've been in positions in games where we've got ourselves in front and teams have been able to peg us back.

"We've not been able to see things out in games like this and that performance sums up our season.

"The game's never over until it's over and they took a chance where they were throwing bodies forward. With the firepower they've got up front there was always going to be an opportunity that they might take and that's what they did."
