The 22-year-old turned down the offer of a new deal at the end of last season but was unable to walk away from Adams Park as Wycombe retained his registration due to his age.

But a loan deal has been agreed with the League Two side to bring the centre-back to Gresty Road until January 5.

A Wycombe statement read: “Wanderers have done everything they can to support Anthony in his search for a new club and are pleased to agree a deal which will allow Stewart to join the Railwaymen on loan, with Wycombe retaining the right to compensation if the defender signs a permanent deal with Crewe or any other club.”
