Just popped in to say good bye (to Mak!)…

Strange thing is, word around White Hart Lane (or whatever it’s called!) is Spuds have another year as an option (so 2024 regardless!) and haven’t taken it up yet as they want to discuss a new contract anyway, something which Conte is quite open too apparently as everybody is happy as Larry (at this particular moment in time!)

    Anyway, good luck!

Dunno, Mak, Puppy was trying to tell me Conte’s leaving in the summer, I disagreed (in a surprisingly polite manner, I thought!) and then I was suddenly blocked…. 🙂

All good here, could be better, could be a lot worse… you know what I mean.

I think the net-spend table, considering where many of the teams are in the proper table, simply confirms my strong belief there’s a lot more to “coaching” than simply writing checks when things aren’t going your way.

jc… why take the salary (about 350k a year) when you are already filthy rich to start with (oh, and you can give yourself tax breaks worth hundreds of millions). Good PR not taking that salary, people think you’re being generous and all that…

Would also bet a Mars Bar his registering as a charitable donation… 🙂

Look at this, an actual debate, I might come back more often!! 🙂

Anyway, Ash, I think you made my point for me…

An executive order is far short of a law for sure, but it is a statement of intended action from the President. It’s not inconsequential.

That’s the point I was trying to make, just because he’s made one, don’t mean it’s going to happen anytime soon.

Anyway, moving on to the point about Donny-boy being decisive (or not) I’d suggest Donny-boy simply says the first thing that comes into his mouth that he thinks his base wants to hear. He’s the ultimate snake oil salesman who’s in this for himself. All these immigration policies are simply pandering to the racist element in his base, and as I mentioned before, the only “policy” of any note his pushed through was a tax-cut that he benefit from on a personal level. He simply says what he thinks people want to hear and about the last person on the planet you want negotiating Brexit.

I’ll rephrase for Alfie’s benefit as my summarization/terminology may not have been clear enough.

Executive Orders are not “orders”, like in the army for example (where I think my cyber chum Alfie might be somewhat confused), the President cannot write whatever he wants in an Executive Order and have it passed into “law” (regardless of what it is), even if it says “hereby order as follows”. The American Government consists of 3 branches, specifically designed as such so no one branch has absolute power (the phrase “checks & balances” is often referred to here). Any and all Executive Orders still have to be approved by both the House and Senate (and I would suspect the one Alfie chucked up would have been because it’s a very non-partisan issue involving something outside of the US… and I would also bet Donny-boy hasn’t read it! 🙂 )

All Executive Order’s will feature the words “hereby order you as follows”, but I can promise you that does mean it’s literal interpretation, otherwise you would/could, in theory, have a President who could write absolutely anything in them and cause unknown havoc.

Hanging to the left SteveO… 🙂

Come on Ash, you’re not a stupid fella!!

Let me explain, what Donny-boy wanted with regards to a travel ban and what got was the equivalent of asking for a brand new shiny Ferrari and ending up with somebody loaning him a steering wheel… technically with some “spin”, when selling to the gullible, you could argue he got a Ferrari… but I would disagree.

Please show me anything proving anything about anything about a new wall being built rather than the existing being “maintained” exactly as it was beforehand.

I suggest you read up on what “Executive Orders” mean in the real world because if/when you see the “Executive Order” being prepared and issued (and he can issue as many of this as he wants) I think you’ll find they’re pretty much worded (and I’m summarizing here, not quoting verbatim) along the lines of “I order you to look into the matter of….”, not “I’m ordering you to do….”

I’d wait and see what the Executive Order says before you start thinking what Donny-boy says, happens.

I think the issue here is Donny-boy hasn’t actually achieved a great deal to start.

The “travel ban” that was finally passed was a drastically watered down version of what Donny-boy wanted, but was celebrated by Donny-boy and his minions as a win because it was “sold” as such and nobody read the small print (and what was allowed is only temporary)

The wall is still a non-starter (and as mentioned now the Dems have the house, will remain a non-starter) as there has only been a minimal increase in the “maintenance” allowance for the existing elements of the wall (but celebrated as a win because it was sold as such!) and agreed by the Dems as there were DACA issues on the same bill (bit of a you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours deal).

As for the current “asylum” crack-down, this isn’t actually a “law”, just basically an idea that will go the same way as the “travel ban” & “wall”, which due to a combination of “won’t be passed by the House” & “won’t get through the courts as it’s illegal”, and was basically spouted as a measure to whip up his base for the mid-terms (just like the migrant invasion story, which has now been dropped from Fox News).

Basically, all three “notions” have never and will never actually happen… but don’t let that deter you all…

Trump’s only “success” was given large corporations and other rich chaps a decent tax-break, and as he’s lost the House, will remain his only achievement for the last 2 and next 2 years.

He may be the Gene Hunt of the political world, but if you ignore his twitter feed and Fox news, you’ll find out other than making a lot of noise and repealing anything Obama did, he’s done sweet fanny adams.

He’s just like Farage but with dodgier hair and a better suntan.

No… simply because that logic would suggest that by have more players in the Semi-final squads than any other team in the world, Spuds would be the best team in the world…

Have to agree with “Wise”-fan, every time Real/Barca met a Prem it’s all one-sided, I mean, look the two games between Real and Spuds last season in the Champions League… very one-sided indeed!
