Man Utd transfer strategy – monitor Spurs NewsNow and sign/scout anyone who is supposedly on Spurs radar. One way of convincing Poch to join when Ole is eventually sacked.

    Mourinho interview.

Enter Mourinho, with Daniel Levy signing Don MacCleans “American Pie”

Levy: Drove the Chevy to the levee…ah Jose welcome!
    Both sit.
Levy: I bet you drove that Chevy you got from United to get here, get it?
    Mourinho: No. Yes. Maybe.
Levy: Okay, well, your CV is very impressive and we would love to have you here, what do you say?
Mourinho: Yes I would be very happy to be manager of Spurs.
    Levy: Excellent
    Mourinho signs contract
Mourinho: I would like to confirm one thing with you now everything is finalised. The transfer budget. How many zeros are you going to give me for the January transfer window? Sever or eight (he said cheekily)?
    Levy: One
A deafening silence fills the room…

Wait a second…10 months of terrible domestic results does not balance for one lucky cup run (Man City would have gone through if not for VAR). Our away form since February was relegation form, our overall form was bottom half of the table. From previous achievements Levy has given him time but nothing has changed. End of the day the board have forked out a lot of money on a new stadium and need European football to deliver the brand profile internationally for football, and sadly NFL.

There will be fans who will hark on about more time but how much more before it is too late? This doesn’t change the frustrating tactics and team selections such as his fabled diamond, which will only succeed with solid full backs. This is a position that we are severely short in, with the insistence of playing Aurier despite mistake after mistake. I would rather have Foyth or KWP in the position and watch them make mistakes as they will at least improve. Every time Moura has a good game he drops him to the bench for the next, no reasonable explanation to do this. With the likes of Skipp waiting for his opportunity yet continues to play Sissoko is absurd.

There will be fans who will point to the lack of transfers and what a marvellous job he has done. Very true. However his reluctance to play Ndombele and Lo Celso when fit is frustrating, the best way for match fitness is actual participation in competitive action. He could have sold Eriksen or Rose in the summer, especially as the latter was at Watfords training ground having a look around but he didn’t.

Football has a short memory, but if results start coming in then we will all get on board. My preference was Ancelotti or Nagelsmann (but he has an exciting project at RBL so I doubt he would leave). Mourinho has something to prove.

I would have loved for you to have won a trophy with us but unfortunately that was not the case. Sincerely, thank you Poch for everything you gave us.

Expect the resignation/sacking of Poch by the end of the day.

Foxyfoxes – totally agree with everything you say, Poch has benefitted from a number of players playing out of their skins. If you look at his recruitment it has been very hit and miss, more so the latter.

NOLU – Oh very much so, however you could say that about most teams to be fair. Kane just shows what you can do with practise and determination, he wasn’t prolific at any loan spell and any substitute appearance he looked unable to raise his game but fair play to the man.

Update: After last night, Poch has been definitely exposed. The pathetic tactics, the lack of in-game management to resolve the issue of no protection for the full backs, and the very bizarre interview. You could see he was angry from his stance and he claimed we were the better team for 30 mins. Clearly he forgot the save Hugo had to make less than 90 seconds in.

Levy will not sack him for one clear reason, money. Man Utd and Real Madrid have their own troubles right now so why fire Poch when you can wait for one of those teams to pay a compensation fee. I will always have a fondness for Poch but to not sour his record and the mixed progress he has brought, although mostly good, he needs to leave now. Thank you Mauricio and good luck.

Steveo – to be honest I don’t know what to believe from Poch as he definitely would of wanted Lo Celso. I would happily take Mourinho at this rate, proven winner. Xavi has expressed interest but needs a different job to convince the majority, although he will be going to Barcelona with the way things are going there at the moment. One option that I think would be very interesting would be Marcelino, unfairly sacked by the Valencia hierarchy and well respected.

Is Steve Bould still on the coaching staff for your lot? It seems that when Rice left the club the defensive cohesion side also did.

I think I should clarify, I really like Poch and hope he stays but only if he works harder to show other tactics instead of persisting with the same one or two (occasionally) that clearly are not working at the moment. He does have an affinity with the players, fans and chairman which is rare but there seems to be some single mindedness in match preparation.

Ever since the World Cup he has consistently played Kane, and although the player has stated he is fine, he is clearly not and should be rested. Unfortunately he is persisting with playing him despite this clear hinderance to the team. There also seems to be undroppable players, despite bad form. Nobody is undroppable. Trippier had a fantastic World Cup and now finds himself taking almost all set pieces, as much as he has continued to be decent at dead ball situations Eriksen is equally as good and should share the responsibility however Poch has clearly played Trippier as number one now. When it comes to the full backs they pushed up too high against Liverpool and he did not adapt to get them to defend as priority rather than leave massive gaps that are easy to exploit.

When the likes of Son and Lamela (has developed so much over last 6-9 months) looks sharp when they need to start. I expect Poch to start them against Inter in place of Kane and Eriksen but i doubt this will happen. I don’t want Poch to go, I just want him to learn from his mistakes and evolve but if this form continues that decision may be made for him.

Meyer and Bernard both available on a free, not bad additions to any squad so bit of a mystery as to why no one has signed them up yet.

Bit worried about Spurs transfer dealings, or lack of. Will be interesting to see who leaves from the tops teams as there seems to be plenty of incomings and not many outgoings which could have a big effect affect on how gets registered for the PL.

Sampaoli is the reason why Argentina failed to perform. With the likes of Perez, Salvio and Meza in the starting XI, let alone the squad, the team was bound to fail. None of the three aforementioned have had particularly good seasons with two of them plying their trade in the Argentina. No disrespect the that level is far lower that it cripples the likes of Messi from performing. The likes of Dybala and Higuian would of been excellent support for Messi. Fazio had an excellent season and yet didn’t start. Rulli should have been in goal too, pretty decent keeper. Sampaoli needs to be fired.

    Well done Croatia though!!

Was disappointed for Salah for the injury but also for Carvajal, injuries in successive finals. Trent had a good game despite being overwhelmed at times but it just goes to show the level of maturity he has developed to put in a solid performance overall. Strangely, Lovren was the best player on the pitch for Liverpool throughout the entirety of the game. Mane had a good 35-40 mins but Lovren stepped up from the defence and lead. Firmino looked lost with Mo and I didn’t even realise than Henderson was playing he done that little. An excellent season overall for Liverpool though with many positives to build on.

Is Gareth Bale the greatest British footballer of all time? His ability and trophy cabinet would definitely add serious weight to that argument.

Anyone would think that one silly incident (only once), in a football match, changed the course of human history.

I would agree with Paxman that a CB or GK is preferable but as neither are viable options then Kane is the best captain material we have.

Pope should start in front of both of them. No glaring silly mistakes all season, conceded the least,in form and his team earned European football. With regards to the other two ones likes to make some of his saves look great when they are relatively straightforward and the other got relegated.

People will say “no international experience”, nor has TAA but I am backing him for a starting place over Trippier.

Sorry but i think there needs to be something of a cull at the club (will post a separate thread). Aurier out and Cedric in. Stronger, fast, better delivery, the decision is pretty straight forward. Probably could get Serge out and Cedric in for the same price.

Fantastic gesture by the Roma players, their first action getting off the bus was to lay a wreath in respect of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster. The players decision, pure class.

Wish this was noted on the home page rather than two Italian legends making a playful gesture. Bit of “feel good” news is needed.
