Everyone talks about WBA as a small club that cannot compete for players in the open market. Well, if this DeLoitte report is to be believed, we are the 29th richest club and that’s without next years TV money! The fact that there are 16 richer premier league clubs should not stop us from competing for players, it’s primarily JP’s short arms/long pockets approach to transfers that cripples us in the transfer market. With this news we should also look attractive to any prospective buyers out there, but this has gone quiet since JP pulled the rug on the Chinese syndicate last year. Finally, we are a well run club that operates within our means. I just wish we could be a little more adventurous both on the field and off it.

With the money we get next year – if we stay up – JP SHOULD have far too much to keep the purse strings tight. The trouble is if we signed Lionel Messi, he would be wasted in our set up. We have the most conservative and neanderthal coach in the league who refuses to use his full squad even thought all the players are much of a muchness and steadfastly refuses to give any of our academy youngsters a chance. There is very little chance of us ever being more than a bottom eight club under him and hopefully JP will use some of the money next season to splash out on a top-class coach. I yearn for Albion to be watchable and popular again.

Couldn’t agree more except to add that the money we have spent on transfers during the past couple of years is hardly penny pinching on JP’s part if the figures are to be believed. £28m on three strikers all of whom would struggle to make any other EPL team and none of which are suited to the style of football we offer up these days plus millions on players not even considered for selection? The loss of Dan the Man was always going to present a challenge and so it has proved. It’s not only a new coach we need but who in their right mind would give Pulis money to spend on a couple more centre backs and an extra defensive midfielder or two? I fear we have at least another season of this man and his approach to the game which will further enhance our new reputation as the team nobody wants to watch and I have finally had it with Father Christmas. He just doesn’t deliver these days!

Let’s put this into perspective before you all go blowing a gasket. The £96 million is revenue from match days, TV rights, merchandising etc NOT profit. By the time you’ve taken away the wage bill, stadium costs etc you can probably kiss goodbye to most of that. In 2013/14 our wage bill alone was 75% of our revenue and our pre tax profit was £13 million which probably left us with less than £10 million to play with and Sess plus Big Vic took care of that! Last year most if not all of our profit went on Brown Ideye who incidentally has scored 7 in 14 for his current club plus one from 6 in the Champions League! This years money went on Rondon and Chester so JP must have been digging deep. The big boys have extremely rich owners, at least two of which have more money than they can ever spend so income for them is mainly irrelevant which is why they spend silly money and can afford errors every now and then. We, unfortunately cannot do that.
