I see that UTD are being linked with Coleman of Everton.
A better RB is Rick Karsdorp of Feyenoord and Holland.
I’ve just watched the Holland v France game and he was excellent, both defensively and going forward. He’s a big strong lad and at 21 the right age.October 11, 2016 at 7:21 am #1261329If we had to go for a right-back I’d prefer we went for Carvajal or Danilo from Real Madrid; they’ve got a fierce competition in that position and, if the right offer came in, we may be able to get one of them off them. My preference would be Carvajal however it would most likely be Danilo if either had to leave.
Aurier and Bellerin are two other options however I can’t see their respective clubs letting them go. Fabinho is also another good option and has been linked with us strongly recently.
Darmian of course can still do a job however he needs to seriously step up when given the chance.
October 11, 2016 at 9:11 am #1261473if we go for coleman we will end up paying over £25m for another overated british player. we got plenty of those already like
October 11, 2016 at 12:35 pm #1261788rs83 – Nice try at the windup, i’m not biting pal!!
October 11, 2016 at 12:39 pm #1261791Coleman, when utilised correctly, is one of the best right backs in the league right now, he’s immense for Ireland, even more so since becoming captain. Man Utd need leadership at the moment so £25m for Coleman wouldn’t make my eyes water. Having said utilised correctly, that could be said about a lot of players. I remember Darmian making mincemeat of the English defence at the WC two years ago, he seems a shadow of that player now so maybe if he was given licence to get forward like he was then he could be a good player again. He started well for United but injury and LVG took their toll. Maybe, for his own sake, he’s better off leaving and ploughing a new road elsewhere without the baggage.
As for Aurier, he’s had a few off-field issues at the moment so I’d be less inclined to go for him despite his obvious talent. I can’t see Bellerin coming to us at the moment. I reckon, if he leaves Arsenal, it will be for Barca (his old Club) or Man City (his old coach).
Not sure about Fabinho as I haven’t seen enough of him.October 11, 2016 at 1:02 pm #1261824As for Danilo and Carvajal, I’d rather not help RM lessen their wage bill allowing them to compete against us for players
October 11, 2016 at 2:12 pm #1261953Darmian should be given a run of games in the team with either Rashford or Mkhitaryan (when fit) ahead of him.
October 12, 2016 at 12:21 am #1262802‘one of the best right backs in the league’
Surely JM should be looking for better players than what are available in the PL.
I just watched the Slovenia game featuring the ‘best’ of English football talent. No thanks. To think that UTD were once linked with Stones! Unbelievable!
In spite of the names mentioned here, none are better than the performance I saw from the Dutch lad the other day.October 12, 2016 at 6:13 am #1262817Without wanting to be pedantic, Coleman isn’t English so the ‘best’ of English talent label doesn’t apply in his case. There were rumours last year of both PSG and Bayern being interested but I don’t know how true they were. Nevertheless he’s a great player, fast, strong, disciplined in attack and defence and, as I said, a leader which we are woefully short of at the moment.
Look at all the great teams in any sport, at any time, and the common denominator is an abundance of leaders in the squad. Players with the skill set and desire but also the drive to push and pull their team along. We could do with a player like Coleman at the moment.October 12, 2016 at 7:47 am #1262862I don’t know what happened to darmian but when he first played for us as well as for Italy this guy was solid. Whether it was lvg or shaw injury something messed him up. I think he should be given another full season but I doubt that will be the case. I just don’t see the point of buying another rb give him a season then ship him off. Players need time to settle evra vidic for eg.
October 12, 2016 at 9:10 am #1263012Evra and Vidic managed to settle in a few months, very shaky debuts but recovered well and went on to become stalwarts within a season. Both were signed in January but were very solid first teamers by the following season. Darmian has had a full season and started well but hasn’t been that good in a while. Although I was very happy when we signed him, he has been disappointing since
October 12, 2016 at 1:10 pm #1263441@killyboye, in fairness to Darmian he was played all over the place by LvG – LB, CB in a back 4, CB in a back 3. When played at RB he’s had different CB’S to his left and Mata ahead of him.
He needs a run of games in a settled defence with a proper winger infront of him. Then we can properly judge him.October 12, 2016 at 1:30 pm #1263462I’d like to see Darmian given a run of games, but it’s not going to happen. Valencia is not good enough imo, so he’ll have to bring someone in – unless Fosu-Mensah is given game time.
Coleman wouldn’t be a bad shout if we’re bringing someone in.
October 12, 2016 at 1:55 pm #1263486Sorry to have to say it but unfortunately Darmian is just not fit for purpose as our future right back.He is neither good enough in defence or offence,he isn’t particularly pacey and appears weak both in body and mind.I have seen far too many journeymen wide players get past him with ease and he appears to me to be a bit of a ‘bottle merchant’ when the going gets tough, especially away from OT.At one point last season it seemed even the guy that rated him highly enough to buy him ie LVG ‘rated’ him to be just about capable of being our 5th choice right back behind Valencia,TFM,Young and even the piss poor Varela, now is it seems Mourinho feels the same way which says it all.
Those calling for him to be given a run of games are wasting their breath because he’s obviously soon going to be a goner from OT,simple as that.October 12, 2016 at 2:19 pm #1263516Darmian hasn’t recovered from chasing Alexis Sanchez’s shadow at Arsenal last year. Begged to be taken off and been hiding ever since.
October 12, 2016 at 7:02 pm #1263966Right back is perhaps the weakest position in our team at the minute, but I think Darmian should be given a run of games.
If Jose opt to buy another RB, Aurier of PSG would be my first choice. He is one of the best right backs in the world. Just a shame he clearly has no brains.
Fabinho of Monaco is a terrific defender and very good going forward, and can play at full back and at CM. He’s only 22 but an outstanding defender with a refreshingly old school mindset
He may not be everybody’s first choice, but Lukas Piszczek of Dortmund is definitely worthy of the spot on our list.
October 13, 2016 at 9:53 am #1264590Piszczek is 31, far too old to be paying money for, he’s been plagued by injuries for the last few seasons, not major ones but lots of little niggles. His quality is undoubted but he’s the wrong profile, age-wise, for us at the moment. He’s entering the twilight of his career, I know we got Zlatan but I feel he is very much going to be the exception and not the rule.
I’d stick with Fabinho who at least is young but with plenty of experience, Coleman (who is 28 so even though I like him as a player is pushing the limits age-wise of buying a player in his prime).
I think Darmian could be good enough and to be fair most RB’s would be chasing Sanchez’s shadow, it’s about having the mental strength to shake it off and come back again the next week, something that perhaps Darmian doesn’t have.October 14, 2016 at 12:23 am #1265769Fabinho is currently playing as a defensive MF in the Monaco team.
Perhaps when the talk of UTD being interested in him a few months ago, it was because JM wanted him as a MF defender. -
