Onto the big mans head! Launch it… compete compete compete for the second ball are often phrases heard at Sunday football.
Route one, direct, agricultural, long ball are terms not used around these pages before unless addressing a team with Andy Carroll or peter crouch opposing us…
The term is “accurate long pass” please chaps… it’s more Italian and tactical when you say it that way! 😂
February 2, 2018 at 1:04 am #1593244February 6, 2018 at 9:11 am #1595251What an impact the big man had last night. put the ball into the mixer and thy shall score… Or a big man in the box causes havoc that a player like Hazard can exploit.
Antonio, Antonio, Alladyce….
February 6, 2018 at 10:22 am #1595322Shall we just write Giroud off as a failure after one 30 minute sub appearance then Roman. Seems a tad harsh.
February 6, 2018 at 10:38 am #1595333long ball, long ball, long ball, long ball Long ball… Whack it up the big man and let the players play off his platform.
Sorry mate, not seen that sort of football at the bridge since Tony Cascarino.
And it was a compliment. slinging on a big man had the desired effect last night, we scored… it’s just we then conceded three goals in under ten minutes and fell apart after doing the hard work.
February 6, 2018 at 11:58 am #1595390RDP you didnt watch much of Drogba then?!
February 6, 2018 at 12:19 pm #1595405Giblue… Yeah, I did… but there was far more to Drogba’s game than heading… He was working out from the back, he’d carry the ball and he had the burst of pace to play off the shoulder and could shoot from outside the box and finish in it. A complete striker. Giroud is not a patch on him, he IS a classic target man.
Not discounting the fact he had players who could play the ball along the ground..
We’re persevering with an outdated model for forward play. Despite many on here criticisng Elmano, he brought in players who kept us top of the pile and gave coaches an option. Now everyone is blaming Marina or whatever her name is.
When will Chelsea give up the ghost of Drogba past?
February 6, 2018 at 12:57 pm #1595441The single most player never replaced at Chelsea is without doubt Frank lampard
February 6, 2018 at 1:02 pm #1595445Agree BP… But sadly players of JT and Franks caliber literally only come around once in a lifetime… It was great while we had him and I’d have him back as an interim boss till the summer and Deschamp becomes available.
February 6, 2018 at 1:11 pm #1595453Personally I think we have to give Giroud a chance. He offers us something different and while not in the same class as Drogba he does have similar attributes. He knows the EPL and can score goals and of course should be well motivated for his WC space. KTBFFH
February 6, 2018 at 2:01 pm #1595489Agree 1905 and Giroud should imo start v WBA on Monday night.
February 6, 2018 at 2:24 pm #1595503cfc1905.. Im all for giving the guy a chance – but talk to gooners and they’ll talk about their frustrations with him too missing absolute dog shit sitters like Torres used to do.
If he does have similar attributes then it is the fact he can toe poke the ball into the net and head it.. that’s where they stop imo. stop gap, knee jerk signing who’ll be carted off in the summer with any luck and the next manager can come in and work with what he has.
February 6, 2018 at 2:47 pm #1595514Roman, most of the comments from Gooners I’ve read generally state their disappointment in losing Giroud as an option ?
I just think in these current difficult times we shouldn’t be writing players off after one 30 minute appearance as a substitute in a team that played with 10 men for over an hour. But that’s the way it seems it is on here nowdays.
February 7, 2018 at 10:38 am #1595832Giroud was a player I hated seeing playing against us and 9 is correct a lot of Arsenal supporters are gutted to see him go because they saw him as not just a good player and good professional.
Also sorry RDP but if Emanelo had made such a good job of the signings we would not be in the situation we are presently in, and just for clarification in case anyone would misinterpret your post RDP, Drogba was signed by Chelsea in 2004 long before we were burdened with Emenalo!February 7, 2018 at 11:39 am #1595862NIblue…
So, just to clarify, Elmano didnt do a good job? Look at the talent that has come and gone from Chelsea… You’ll see Lukaku, KDB and Salah among many others who have made the club a small fortune to continue operating in the transfer market using FFP… and was part of a team of people who recruited the players we have like Hazarad, Courtouis who people are desperate to hang onto. Sounds like sour grapes in all honesty. He leaves the club and all of a sudden we are linked with Carrolls and Crouches of this world?
Drogba was signed by Jose, the majority of the team Drogba played in was signed and put together by Claudio Ranieri. So to clarify… up until his exit late last year, Elmano was responsible for putting together the current side or not? The one that’s won two league titles in four years by the end of this season? Did a Sh*t job didnt he…
February 7, 2018 at 1:23 pm #1595940Roman, Piet de Visser is Roman’s personal Scout and was responsible for identifying Lukaku,De Bruyne and Courtois amongst many others.
Let’s be fair our transfer strategy didn’t go wrong in just the January window it’s been wrong for a long long time and Emenalo had a major hand in the Summer captures and would have been involved right up to his departure in drawing up the January hit list for instance in a recent interview I heard Emenalo claim that he had watched Monaco several times last season which points to Bakayoko?
I said last season Roman needs to carry out a roots and branch investigation on how we are managing transfers both in and out and that needs to go deeper than just Emenalo and Marina and go right down to our worldwide Scouting network.
It’s a basic requirement that the DOF and the Manager need to be working in tandem and singing off the same song sheet they haven’t been and that’s what needs putting right now with the Appointments of a DOF and a new Manager a combination of Belleti and Enrique might work from that aspect.
If we get it wrong in the transfer market this Summer it could set us back years especially if we sell Hazard and Courtois which currently looks likely and don’t use the significant funds that they will generate wisely. Cheers 999
