this is just one highlighted possible transfer, we were in for Pato as well, or at least we had discussions about him. There have been a number of targets approached but this is the January window, players rarely move in the January window. Unless they are on the fringes of their squads, like Coutinho and Sturridge both were.
We don’t need a player like that, we need someone that can step into the team and deliver right away. Gambling away 53 million on a unproven player was never going to happen. If we could get Benzema for 53 million I think the board would go for it but not a unproven player for that amount.
Lets say there is something to what Suarez mentioned in the week that he misses Liverpool and wants a move back and the club just splashed out 53 million on a unknown player. We wouldn’t have enough money left to make a move for Suarez, or any other player of note.
Also Origi will help us score goals, he fits into the attacking play Klopp wants to set up but without a new striker I highly doubt we will finish that much higher up the table.

At least we are not linked with another Southampton player and if this transfer does not work out we should be looking forward to a better summer transfer window.

Number8wasgr8, if they don’t have the finances to help us compete for top players (or won’t spend it),then they should sell the club to someone who can and will. I’m sick and tired of seeing our club sign the calibre of players we sign, walk away when we have a chance of signing a top player, and end up finishing around the 7th/8th/9th mark in the league. When they bought the club, they promised we’d be challenging for top players (we can compete with anyone for players they said-don’t make me laugh) competing for trophies (we’ve won 1,and have a chance of a 2nd) and they promised we’d get a new stadium (we’re getting a new stand instead). So basically, they fed us a load of bull, and are now running the club like we’re an inconvenience to them, while they throw the majority of their money at their favourites, the Red Sox. Am I right or wrong?

Unfortunately ST you are right. I was so happy when FSG came in like saviors and promised us gold and green forests but the only thing we got was half a acre of shit so far!

Suarez teeth, whilst I can understand your frustration with the Teixeira transfer which may still yet happen by the way,FSG can’t fund Liverpool’s transfer activity whoever Liverpool buy has to be funded by the club otherwise it breaks the FFP rules which whether we live them or hate them are still in place.

FSG can’t force another club to sell, pretty much how Arsenal didn’t force us to sell Suarez.
Check out our top 20 most expensive players. Vast majority were bought by FSG.
We’re not the only club to gave baulked at the fee asked for Texeira.
Chelsea who have considerably more finances available to them walked away also.

FSG have not broken a single promise. Everything has been done in making the club self sufficient, the expansion is underway.

Behemoth, technically Caulker isn’t a Southampton player, he is contracted to QPR. Anyway a loan deal might just be for half a season.

Ginger,no,we can’t force them to sell, but if we’d met the asking price, they would have at least considered it,instead of dismissing our offer of £27m. But it doesn’t look like we will do that now does it? Which means,in all likelihood, that by the time the next transfer window comes around, we will have finished nowhere worth talking about in the league, another club will agree to pay it,and he will go there. In the cases of Willian, Mkhitaryan and the others that we’ve failed to bring in,we had competition from teams in the CL,so it was always gonna prove difficult to attract them here. On this occasion,Chelsea were our only competition, and they cleared the way for us to sign him,and we STILL couldn’t manage to pull it off.

Nine,I’d be surprised if this deal happened now. As I said on another thread,if it does,I will admit I was wrong, but I don’t think it will happen now

Suarezteeth, there might be cases of players not willing to come here because they were not sure if they could improve under Rodgers. I will reserve my judgement until the summer transfer window.

Gabara,I understand your point, but that’s FSG’s fault for appointing him in the first place isn’t it? You have to ask,why did they approach Roberto Martinez? Why did they appoint Rodgers? Because a higher calibre of manager wouldn’t have joined,I think because of the way they like things to work (the transfer committee, their Moneyball philosophy). Waiting till the summer is all well and good, but here’s 2 points to consider:

    1) Who’s going to get the goals in the meantime? Who can we REALLY rely on for consistent goals?

    2) If,as I suspect,we limp through the rest of the league season, and finish in one of our usual spots, how are we gonna attract a better class of player in the summer? We’d basically be relying on Klopp’s powers of persuasion, and who knows,it might work, but it might not

They appointed Rodgers to lower expectations, they were in the process of lowering the wage bill to something that was sustainable.
Now they appoint Klopp and they are raising expectations once again, show a little patience.

According to Shaktar General Manager Shalkiy Palkin ” Liverpool stopped after an offer of 32m Euros and 4m Euro bonus”

Glad we didn’t sign him for that crazy money… Fact is we can’t stock or team with 50 million players in each position, even man city don’t do that! More likely is the Arsenal method where we scout talent that suits the tactics and then develop it to its potential. I definitely expect some marquee players too though…However if we have 30 million to spend why aren’t we looking for a true striker? It’s not like we have long term confidence in sturridge…

You mean the ridiculous asking price of £53mil for a guy with 18 months left on his contract and wants to leave?? The ridiculous price that Chelsea even walked away from?? That asking price??
Come and live in the real world with the rest of us and stop fuming over nothing.

Im sure Teixeira is a great player (he must be for that price!) But I trust Klopp to do what Rodgers couldn’t. I know we seem a little jaded after the Moneyball project but I’m actually excited to see some real talent in scouting and coaching now klopp is on board. Look at West Ham they are 5th in the league and probably have 4 or 5 players that would easily get into our first eleven. Im not sure we need remortgage the house every time we start thinking were not good enough. There are some smart buys out there. The rise of lesser teams this season has revealed that our scouting department are light years behind other teams. But then LFC fans knew that for a while now…
