Tugayisgod. totally agree… perhaps we will see an english tyle of football that works with the technically good england players, I doubt he’ll pick on reputation but rather form… I was gobsmacked that Carrol and Antonio and Drinkwater didnt go this summer and we saw strikers playing in midfield and the wings once more. I reckon he’ll be a good English manager… at least we’ll have some personality.

Is that how low England I’ll go? Big Sam Ffs?

He had decent players at Newcastle yet was still a long ball merchant. A laughable appointment if happens.

Sean he did a great job at Sunderland last season and took Bolton to a new level signing some worldies with players like Djorkaeff and Okocha. On the other hand he was poor at Newcastle. I think it’s worth a try. We’re already at rock bottom!

Not a big Sam fan, but weren’t Newcastle close to signing the likes of Modric and few others before Mike Ashley came in and pulled out of the deals.

Think he was doomed from the start there. Start of the decline.

Can’t say I agree with that foxy.

The media would not be saying anything negative about the team if they were having success that measured up to the talent we’ve got in this country. You can’t blame the media or the public, until the performances improve.
I heard people say the media surrounding Sterling has affected him… What about Daniel Sturridge who had far worse press than Sterling this year? He just got on with his job, prepares himself well and goes out and performs, it didn’t affect him at all.

Outside opinions might add a certain ‘fear factor’, but you’d expect the players to get on with it, and the manager to pick players who can perform under the pressure.

Hodgson had a horrendous gameplan. The two most athletic players in the country, Vardy and Milner were left out. And Sterling has struggled recently to handle the pressure of playing for City or England.
Then Dier gets a nose bleed when he steps into the opponent’s half, and Rooney is way outta shape, and that’s the midfield duo? With a cameo from Jack ’20 fags a day’ Wilshire. What does Hodgson expect when we don’t have the legs in midfield.

Mourinho summed it up perfectly… Rooney cannot play midfield, even Pirlo for Italy they used to have two central midfielders to do the leg work, which allowed Pirlo to drift around and do what he can do on the ball. Pirlo was a pathetic defensive player with little contribution other than his passing, but they made it work. Hodgson didn’t.

I don’t rate Allardyce. He’s another who’s from a bygone era. We need a more modern manager, perhaps someone like Pocchetino?

Prefer Pardew; at least we’d know we’d be implementing proper wingers and make use of the width.

Can’t see that really happening with Sam’s style of football.

If the FA bothered to open their eyes ,put down their pink gins they may want to think twice about appointing an English manager.Of the top 10 places in last seasons PL not one was managed by an Englishman.
Have all those clubs got it wrong?? No cos the English options ain’t good enough. Sam Allardyce FFS !! Appoint the best man whatever nationality.

What England lack is a solid identity. It’s like British food tbh. Great quality ingredients but the dishes are kinda meh when comparing to the ingredients. The fault lies with the chef. If you look at the team you don’t already know what they’re going to do or how they’re going to play. The PL is known as a high intensity, physical and very quick league. When I think of English football that’s what I think of. That’s what the players would be used to. Why does this not translate to the national team? The only thing I think of with regards to this England team is how lost they seem to be when assembling a squad of 23 or whatever. They don’t have an identifiable, fixed, style of play and don’t seem to know what their best 11 is. Allardyce will be Hodgson MK-II. He’s known to play physical teams and resorts frequently to long ball tactics. England can do a lot better with this crop of players. Trying the same thing again and expecting different results is exactly what’s happening. Insane!

Razor, have to disagree. Based on playing style Hodgson and Allardyce are poles apart. We aren’t trying the same thing again we havent had a manager who plays like Allardyce in my lifetime. It could be a disaster. I totally agree that we need an identity.

I think the issue with identity is similar to club teams in Europe, wherein rather than try to play to their strengths, the teams try’s to adapt to foreign opposition. How many times over the years have we seen teams in Europe try to play “European”? I think the national side tries to do the same (especially when we’ve had foreign coaches). Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see England go out and play high-intensity football just to see how in works, trying to play a “foreign” style obviously isn’t working. I think England are trying to be too clever and due to the time you spend coaching them, man-motivational skills are possibly more important than tactical skills. I’d still fancy Harry Redknapp for England, certainly over Big Sam!

We need Jurgen Klinsmann. He’s half German/ half North Londoner, so understands how to keep cool and play to potential on a consistent basis (make no mistake, THAT is the main reason Germany are so good. Not because they’re technically superior) while also understanding the English mentality.

Sam Allardyce would be a terrible appointment.

My bet is that Allardyce gets the job.

We’ve got the best man for the job before, his name was Fabio Capello and arguably did worse than Sven, who too was the best man for the job then. Bringing in coaches who are successful at club level means nothing in the international scene. Remind me, how successful was Low in club football before he got given the keys to one of the biggest nations in the world? Capello’s club record was good, so why did he fail so miserably with England? Venables was probably our best manager over the last 25 years, yet his club successes are varied. Probably our best manager of the last 40 years was Bobby, yet his club successes again were varied at the high end of town.

My point is, club success means diddly on the international scene. The best international coaches are those who are excellent man-managers, in Robson’s case he also happened to be a tactical genius.

Great appointment, if it happens, which brings the team full circle from Alf Ramsey to the present day.
Frankly the English have been told they’re bad/evil/exploitative/unimaginative and on and on for so long, mostly by foreigners who hate us, that we should close our eyes and just do our own thing.
I’d like to see a big statue of Big Sam put outside Wembley stadium for the length of his tenure, with him as if standing on the touchline sticking two fingers up to the world.
That’s us at our best, sod the foreigners………………………………
