One convincing league win against an average side.

Yes, we do seem to be seeing some rejuvenated players and Klopp’s honesty and enthusiasm is infectious, but “could” the recent performances be simply the “new manager affect”?

Should we get excited or should we wait till after the Christmas run of games and then judge?

We’ve had a few false dawns over the years and I really want this to be the real thing :/

No, there is no reason to get carried away, it is 5 points from 3 games since he tokk over, Rafa used to say, you need to average 2 points a game to make certain of CL football, and I still think that is the same.

    This really bugs me:

What exactly is getting ‘carried away’?

There’s a clear distinction sharing delight and spreading happy vibes.

I have sincerely not read a single comment beyond that from anybody even remotely suggesting we will win the next game.

Not one person therefore as it stands has got carried away.

Obviously we need to regain some of that lost spirit, but of course, we know we have to remain with our feet on the ground.

I meant that there is a discernible, “everything is better than it was” in the air. My statement about waiting till after the Christmas games reflects this…

I completely understand that; the point is in terms of here and now, that was one buzzing victory on Sat, make no mistake – poor Chelsea or not, we still had to do the business.

Personally, I’m happy to give Jurgen klopp all the time needed as long as he does everything he can to take the team in the right direction.

Granted, there will be times when we will lose games, but the main thing is to be able to get back on the saddle and avoid defeat in the next game.

Seems an exciting time, and hopefully, we can start to regain some of that lost momentum and start picking up more points, home and away.

    Cheers

So what if I or we get carried away don’t we deserve a little bit of good news. I’m still enjoying the win over Chelsea average team or not we still had to score the goals! One nil down at their ground my heart sank. Between you and me I was angry at one stage because Jurgen would not replace Lucas, what do I know?

I don’t think there is a Liverpool supporter (and probably a few rival supporters) that didn’t enjoy the Chelsea win! 😀

But enjoying the win and dreaming of “what might be” are two totally different things!

I think it’s pretty obvious that the reason people have celebrated this victory so much is that it was a complete contrast to certainly anything we’ve witnessed this season, and probably also for the last couple of months of last season. Off the top of my head, I don’t know when we last won at Stamford Bridge, but it was a good while, and the feeling of apathy and doom and gloom at Anfield is only now beginning to lift. Everyone knows (surely) that we are only at the beginning of what could be a long journey, but at least Saturday felt like the first step on that journey. Until Saturday, the arrival and effect of Klopp had been somewhat underwhelming. Well, guess what, I’m now whelmed!

Having said that, we might well take a couple of steps back next Sunday, but that’s going to happen, but as long as everyone accepts that victory or defeat are just part of that journey, there is no harm in celebrating a very good victory against one of our traditional rivals, particularly as it focuses the heat on Mourinho.

Pax, what exactly has RedRob on the other thread done wrong?

All he’s done is put forward an analysis of the actual game and fair play to him in drawing out positives.

My definition of ‘carried away’ is a planning wedding bells in the example of 3 good dates with the girl.

I’ve not so far seen any evidence of that here and it beats the daily moaning and groaning everyday.

    Remember the old site?

Colin Vancouver was one of our most positive of posters and he used to tire of all the doom and gloom.

Cheer up a bit and live the moment.

    agree with that hightown hope.

we will have never turn a real corner until we are gtting regular cl football and winning trophies.

if we lose or draw on sunday then people should not get to down. There going to be set backs along the way but in general the mood is much more positve then a few weeks ago but ahgain, i dont to see real improvement until klopps gets his own players

Nah, Its the way we are playing that is impressing me. players in their correct positions. Look at Lucas he is playing his natural game and he looks better. The work rate is key for me. So with proper coaching I’m going to be looking to see what our youngsters can do!

I think we’ll see important but subtle changes with Klopp this season. As he said, Coutinho was one of the most important factors, particularly the timing of the goal on the stroke of half time. As Sean said, until Klopp’s players come in, we’ll be particularly reliant on our best players, just like Rodgers was, and indeed most managers are. In the short term then, not a lot will change.

Rodgers problem was that he built his “success” on momentum. However, we all saw what happened when that momentum was derailed in just one game.
With Klopp we have a better all rounder, who might not play or score as many or play so expansively, but the team should (hopefully) become more robust and so less dependent on the attack to bail it out. Indeed had Rodgers stayed he may well have gone on another run and out done Klopp in periods of the season…but it’s the whole season that obviously matters.

It’s a different kind of momentum that Klopp will build, one less easily seen. If the top teams were firing on all cylinders, talk of the title or top 4 wouldn’t be on the table. But they aren’t, so the press is now getting giddy.

Don’t worry SensibleS7, Paxman doesn’t rate 5 points from 3 games and an unbeaten run. As so many others have said, the way we are playing is impressive. In addition, Klopp has a superb sense of perspective which will keep us grounded despite the fact that we can see he’s thoroughly enjoying the early stages of the ride and is also buzzing himself at times. He embraces the joy and faces the disappointments equally well.
You know what – I think I’d say he’s got a lot of Shankly in him – but I’d better be careful there or I’ll get accused of going over the top – but who cares though – we all have our opinions !

    Well said red-rob.

I really hope for us to get back into the pattern of just winning games and avoiding defeat; put on a decent run and rebuilding that consistency, nicely.

We’re also seeing a few young players given a chance.

I just wish for a settled back 4 that could keep clean sheets, and of course netting in at the opposite end

    🙂

Sensible – He has been manager for 3 league games, and yes I have been impressed, very impressed, but I would say after 3 games, saying he has us playing something close to total football, and that he has a lot of Shankly in him, is I’m afraid going over the top.

Listen to the Anfield Wrap this week, they are going no where near as far as that are still apologising for going over the top, and saying it like it is, it was one game against a poor Chelsea side, and this is 1 game after a dire performance against Southampton. A few more results like this and I might get carried away, but I am also wary that if we play like we did vs Southampton we could come away from the Palace and City games with no points.

It is these same supporters that get carried away after a good result that also post the doom and gloom after the poor ones.

Haha, it’s probably just first impressions of Redrob’s on the new boss Pax.

Let him have his moment 🙂

I do get what you mean in terms of fickleness, the moment we drop 2 points. Naturally, there’s disappointment expressed, but I can’t see for now, anybody really throwing toys out of the pram and getting on the Manager’s back (for example).

There were some questioning him after the Southampton game, especially on the phone ins.

Pax – the phone-in crowd just love the sound of their own voices. And it was like that on the old Team Talk to an extent. Every defeat was met with a storm of abuse for the whoever was the manager at the time. It’s good to see that on the whole there is a more level headed reaction to both victories and defeats on here now…mind you, don’t get me started on those draws!

    no

not seen anyone getting carried away.
most are just relieved to be seeing players in their positions, playing with energy and a high tempo and are agreeing that we lack quality upfront.

i don’t listen to phone-ins – never heard an opinion worth listening to from the numpties who call them – most haven’t even watched the game let alone ever been to a game.
