CM – not seen or read anything about that but an interesting point

However, I find it hard to believe that Conte would have issues or desires to remove someone so long established and probably more than an arms reach from what he is directly involved in

My guess is that this is now more down to laying foundations by Roman for the coming decade when the Club will go through a significant amount of changes. We have the new ground, the relocation, the naming rights of the new stadium and preparing ourselves to continue to be a global force in world football

For me, this is exactly what Roman would excel in and whether or not the Emenalo leaving was a catalyst or not, I would not be surprised to see a few more changes taking place to ensure a strong continuity behind the scenes which hopefully should only benefit the Club going forward..? KTBFFH

I’m in agreement with 1905 I doubt Conte has either the clout or motivation to remove a FD from the Board and I suspect his interface with an FD would have probably been minimal and for those reasons I can’t see why it would be considered a positive for Conte.

Some interesting changes going on at Board level which as 1905 suggests probably has more to do with getting things right at the top in preparation for the next decade.

As for Conte leaving to manage Italy he wanted out of international football and wanted the day to day involvement of club management and despite I am sure being flattered by the clamour in Italy for him to return to hike previous role on the back of Italy’s non qualification for the World Cup I think it’s very unlikely that Conte will change his mind and if Conte was to leave Chelsea it will probably be for another club role.

Currently given everything that’s gone on I still think it’s favourite that Conte will leave in the Summer but if the club gave Conte final say on comings and goings and a direct line in to Roman that could change things around and Conte could stay.

The Summer imo will be the tipping point.

Blimey, talk about conspiracy theories, maybe he just fancies a change of job, after the best part of 15 years at the club he may just want a new challenge.
No idea how old he is but you would presume he’s financially comfortable and may just want to enjoy life rather than working….Pagan

Pagan – entirely feasible and sounds logical as well

I guess with what has gone on recently we sometimes like to look for deeper underlying reasons for why things happen rather than accept having been in the same job for so many years he simply wants to move or even retire….!! KTBFFH

According to reports, the Italian FA has made Conte their number 1 target to be the next national manager and are preparing a lucrative contract for the end of the season

No idea how true this is but I hope it is as IMO, it will help to clarify a lot of things

Chelsea have to be aware of this development and must make a decision as to how they want to respond. Assuming that they want Conte to stay, which sounds the logic approach, then they should really take the initiative and start contract talks soon. It will also make Conte think about his future and what is important to him

Between all of this, Chelsea should get a good indication of whether they need to start looking for a replacement or not…? KTBFFH

Putting Chelsea to one side for a moment the key reason for Conte quitting the Italian National team job in 2016 was because Conte wanted to return to club management and missed the day to day involvement with players so it would be quite a turn around by Conte if he were to take on the Italian international team again within a couple of years of leaving it.

However, the situation has now taken a new twist after Tavecchio the President of the Italian FA who spoke out about Italy wanting Conte back has now resigned from his post.

“I’m sorry,” said the 74-year-old. “I’m leaving because I failed. I apologise to all Italians.”

I think there’s every chance of Conte leaving in the Summer but if he does I think it is more likely to be for a club job somewhere else.

Whether Italy do come in for Conte or not or indeed anyone else comes in for him or not I think there will be a decision to be made both ways in the Summer because as we saw with Wenger it’s very difficult for a high profile Manager to go through a season at a top club when he’s in the last year of his contract it leads to instability and will affect the Summer transfer plans as players will be uneasy about joining a club when they don’t know who the Manager will be going forwards.

Shame if it all ends in the Summer with Conte though imo there are very few Managers with Conte’s pedigree going to be available to us to replace him if that’s the way it goes.

But that’s the way CFC roll.😊

Call me a dreamer or deluded or optimist. but i have this feeling since the Watford game that Conte will extend his contract in the summer. i had a feeling also that it may well come to the appointment of the DOF in the summer and Steve Holland replacement. allowing to Conte to have a say in the appointment of the DOF and his assistant will motivate him to extend his contract. the signals that the club had been giving in the last few weeks suggested that they may well let Conte have a say. because if the appointment should be in the summer then its obvious that Conte may well have a say in who comes in as DOF.

Carlo returning to live in London and wants to return to club football. Chelsea and Arsenal linked?

Not a bad replacement 999, i would hate to lose Conte but should he depart. a familiar friend in Carlo isn’t that bad. he will suit our club as he will not require a bedding period. my hope is that we keep Conte, Hazard, Azpi,Christensen and Kante at all cost. that is the core of our team. Courtois can be replaced as we have replace Cech. but getting players with the characteristic of Kante, Hazard, Azpi and Christen is hard to find nowdays. and if you find they will come with a huge cost.

If Conte does go I shall be upset as I think he is a terrific manager. Carlo as replacement would be pretty good, although I would want an enforcer as his number two because I think Carlo is so nice he can be taken advantage of.

Managers come and go and yet the majority of players remain with a winning team where they get games

Must admit although I would be disappointed to see Conte go following his first season, must admit that this season he is half the manager he was and is whinging too much for my liking. I feel certain if he left we could attract a number of top managers but obviously Carlo looks to be in prime position (shame for me as not a fan at all….)

Because we are a top Club we attract and retain top players but then that always attracts the interest of the very few elite clubs so we always run the risk of losing the top quality we have. It is down to Chelsea to reassure them and for the new manager (whomever that may be and if there is one needed?) to come to terms with the squad quickly and interact with them

History would say that over the last 12 years or so this approach has worked very well…? KTBFFH

not easy 🙁 I would like Conte to stay. But lately he was in ‘war’ with Mou. Not easy managing in England. I think we should go to Allegri instead of Carlo if Conte leaves.
(again I am hoping he stays).
Carlo is good, but he’s too one dimensional.

Interesting comments from Conte today in his press conference. He seemed very honest stating that he had another year on his contract and would like to stay at Chelsea but things change quickly in football..?

Sounds as though he was putting the ball in the boards court if they are looking to make a change…? KTBFFH

Have to say that the best football we ever played was under Carlo. We used to absolutely destroy teams…it’s a shame it no longer happens.

Mate moyes could of played that type of football with that squad. That was the second coming after the 06 team. Problem with carlo is hes too soft.

At the start of the season i would have been guttered to see conte go. Now? Not so much. I havent been entertained at all this season. Our games have been mostly awful. I would like and attacking manager personally

But would Conte not be more attacking if he got the players he wanted.
How many of our midfielders are of the same, not one of them has the nous or pace to go from deep, Kante is the best, but he does everything else also, and that said Alonso probably gets in the box as much as any other LB in the PL.
Let’s be fair the players Conte has openly discussed are
Sandro Vidal and today Sanchez all of which he has not been able to sign.

BP – at 60m does Sandro represent good value where I would say we are more than well covered? Bayern has clearly stated that Vidal is not for sale so what can the board do? Sanchez appears set on City and Pep so again, what can the board do?

It is all very well and good for a manager to have his targets but we all know that today players are either exceptionally expensive or simply not available as most clubs try to keep their top players

There must be other options and these need to be considered

Have to agree with Phwepsi here. Last season Conte was brilliant and even at the start of this season he seemed to be OK, but the last few months he seems lost, running out of ideas and miserable to boot. I guess that most teams would like an attacking manager and for the fans to be entertained. Me, I just want to win and if it can be done by being attractive and entertaining then so much better – if not, just win. KTBFFH

Carlo went because he was allegedly considered too soft by Roman he lost the dressing room at Bayern when five big players turned against him. Lovely man good Coach but can’t see Roman changing his view.
