I find it strange that posters are having a go at the players. There are some idiots here… Great game, Little disappointed that Arsenal managed to claw back some goals and gain some dignity. Some players let their focus slip but overall that was top drawer. Only 96 goals needed now… 😉

I’m not sure about having a 3 of Hendo, Wijnaldum and Lallana as our midfield away from home, especially against the likes of Arsenal.
Both Lallana and Wijnaldum are more attacking players, I’d have preferred one of those 2 included and the likes of Can in to exercise more control in the midfield beside Hendo.
I can see how it would become useful at home against teams that park the bus and need braking down, just not sure about that type of 3 away.
I suppose they are still getting used to it themselves.

Redrob, it’s not Firmino or Origi neccasarily that people are talking about. I know your feelings on Sturridge and that’s fair enough – your view, for me if Sturridge doesn’t play or isn’t fit then I would like to see Origi start. We can then have players buzzing around him depending on their form.

I do rate Firmino personally just like it when he is more direct as per second half yesterday.

What a game…7 goal thriller, wow had me going through all kinds of emotions but in the end we came out smiling. Emerits isn’t an easy place to go to and although we where pretty horrible in the first half *caugh caugh ** Moreno almost made want to fly to Anfield and give him a peiece of my mind but thank God for Coutinho..lol..
Mane is a BEAST, the goal reminded me of Suarez the way I just glided cut and let it fly.
All in all great start and although we have a lot to improve in delighted with the team spirit and we can only get better from this. 3 points in the bag bring on Burnley. #YNWA

NotoriousBingo, Yer right man. I think the negativity may have come from Arsenal nearly coming right back into it and the amount of time that we all had to watch nervously. . But for me, I was delighted to see that the team solidified at 4-3 instead of collapsing under the pressure. That’s a big big thing for me.

We put 4 past Arsenal, our new signing Mane scored a potential candidate for goal of the season and was absolutely fantastic for the entire match. Our other signing may not have dominated the game but that assist for Lallana’s goal was clever. I think many other players might not have wanted to pull it back for fear of wasting the chance but he was watching more than just the ball at his feet.

Then there is Coutinho showing people that he is hungry to get on the score-sheet this term.

There are so many things to be positive about that match, so you’re absolutely right Notorious, it’s very strange to see so much negativity.

The negativity comes from the same old problems rearing their ugly head, specifically Moreno’s unique take on the art of ‘defending’,and the team conceding poor goals, and nearly drawing a match that we were in total control over after we seemingly went into panic mode after Chamberlain’s goal, and in the end were hanging on by the skin of our teeth. Yes we won,but that doesn’t mean that the negative aspects should just be ignored

Its nonsense to suggest we were hanging on by the skin of our teeth.

Freebilli, I agree, for once we weren’t hanging on by the skin of our teeth. Can and Stewart came on and solidified our midfield and Arsenal created for little after Couts went off. A refreshing way to end a close game; controlling it as opposed to panic city.

S/t’s post is spot on at 11:18. This discussion should be made redundant.

How is it spot on when we weren’t hanging on?

I think we took the foot off the gas & almost paid for it but in the end I agree with Rob & Freebilli in that we did look reasonably comfortable closing out the game. That said I agree with ST in that our weaknesses got exposed & that will only increase as teams see where they can hurt us so I believe it is absolutely essential we replace Moreno (thought it would have been the 1st thing on the to do list after last season) & get our centre back positions sorted (injuries aren’t helping, again) . Unfortunately I think we may have left it too late & won’t be able to get anyone suitable. I just hope it doesn’t come back to haunt us.

Freebilli, the way the second half-panned out, we took our foot off the gas pedal and by ‘convenience’ assumed, we coast to the finishing line.

Arsenal pulled 2 goals back so effectively, there was a shift in momemtum of belief.

Evidence of that to close out the game in caution was exhibited by our players taking the ball over to the corner flag to provoke an (‘hurry up and get on with it’) Arsenal player trying to seize possession and control.

If lets say, we as Liverpool supporters want the clock to run down quick and the final whistle to blow, that means we were hanging on.

As S/T mentions, it’s the only but fundamental biggie we need to take away and sort out. The rest was otherwise a perfectly happy-go-lucky win.

    End of story.

Number 8, not surprisingly mate, a negative perspective from you there; it’s as if you thrive on that type of opinion.

Just because you say “end of story” doesn’t mean it is.

Lol, given you the thumbs up Ginger – I like 😀

Well, okay, feel a little relaxed than uptight after that.

Truth is though, how much more can there be added than what has been thrashed to death already?

I think we’re at a point where it feels we lost the game which obviously wasn’t the outcome.

If people feel they want to continue to add their thoughts, then it’s their call. I’m glad there’s a general consensus in fans acknowledging our shortfalls.

It’s just one overall problematic area in GK and Defender that needs addressing, and we seriously could go places.

So any team with a one goal lead is by definition hanging on, I’m looking forward to hanging on to a few more games this season up by the oppositions corner flag as opposed to back in our own penalty area.

Uh huh, hanging on; note the fundamental words:

Here’s a phrase: “A team pull a goal back to set up a grandstand finish and make it 2-1”.

The above relates to circumstances with the clock descending and the momentum being switched in favour of the home team.

Arsenal pulled back 2 goals to set up a nervy finish, but Liverpool held on.

Congratulations Liverpool! One or two longstanding defensive issues continue to come to light, however, an otherwise refurbished outfit look good to pack more than a punch against the ‘big boys’.

Nil, I said I didn’t think we were hanging on I thought we closed it out pretty well to be honest. As for the rest of my comment I said I hope we haven’t left it too late to replace Moreno as I think having him as our no.1 left back could come back to haunt us & we have some injuries at the back, astonishingly negative stuff right there.
Not that I have to justify myself to you cause I really don’t give a rats ringer what you think but I also said on another thread I thought Migs done well & showed signs of improvement. All totally negative stuff that really makes me feel awesome.

This is the biggest drawback having a round the clock forum against round the clock news coverage/updates.

Some people centre their lives on Liverpool, and make new threads of every other new update.

I shouldn’t have to care that much and nor do I want to. I actually think I led a better life knowing less than more.

There’s just far too much talk and over-analysing after ONE game of football. It’s just silly and a turn off.

Number 8, by the way, I was answering more towards Freebilli.

For me having possession of the ball in the opposition half isn’t hanging on, for you it is, Uh, Huh..
