Hope for an relatively easy win and no injuries. Even make some changes with the visit to SB on Sunday in mind!
October 31, 2017 at 10:50 am #1551640Should be a routine win really, 2-0 or something like that.
October 31, 2017 at 11:08 am #1551651The vibe from Benfica seems to be more resignation than defiance so I don’t see much threat tonight. If Mourinho wanted to make a statement, picked a strong team and told them to go for it I think Benfica would wilt and I could see a four or five nil thrashing. As it stands I reckon the pragmatist will win out and we’ll win two-nil fairly conservatively.
October 31, 2017 at 11:42 am #1551672I expect this game to be a routine win. Benfica seemed to play to their full potential on their own patch and they were rather average in my view – we beat them without getting into 2nd gear.
Contrary to what some are saying here. I reckon the team will be rotated minimally. Mourinho will want to qualify here and will only rest players in the final 2 Champions League games.
Again, I will be watching Mkhitaryan closely because it’s about time he put in a proper performance, particularly when it comes to ball retention.
October 31, 2017 at 12:12 pm #1551694going for a 1-0 or 2-0 win, didn’t see much in Benfica last time to see any real threat from them. The important thing is to come out without injuries ahead of Chelsea next weekend.
October 31, 2017 at 12:59 pm #1551721This should be a case of rotate rotate rotate given the current standings and the match on Sunday.
Jose hasn’t got it in him though to rest Lukaku, Matic, Bailly, Pogba, Zlatan though….
October 31, 2017 at 1:34 pm #1551742I agree MT mate, would love to see some players given a rest on this game, especially the likes of Lukaku with the match on Sunday in mind.Much rather draw this one and get a result @ SB!.
October 31, 2017 at 2:13 pm #1551765‘I hope you enjoy the Benfica game more than some of you did against Tottenham’
From Mouninho’s program notes tonight. Ouch.
As a couple of Chelsea mates have pointed out to me lately…”and so it begins.”
October 31, 2017 at 3:34 pm #1551804Tommmy – You saying this is the beginning of the end for Jose? First blame the players, then blame the fans and then poke someone in the eye?!!
October 31, 2017 at 3:36 pm #1551806So just over the last few days we’ve had macmanaman, sherwood, charlie nicholas, crooks and few others critising jose’s style of play. I don’t mind people being critical but some of the rubbish said by these pundits is unbelievable. Sherwood said spurs were the only team trying to win, they didn’t even play with a recognised striker, imagine if jose did that we wouldn’t hear the end of it. Macmanaman says he wants to be entertained, FFS the only time the scousers were entertained by us was when moyes was in charge. Fergie had all these guys under control hardly any of them spoke out during his time even souness kept his mouth shut. 2nd highest scorers in the league, best defence in the league, and all people remember is the liverpool game
October 31, 2017 at 3:45 pm #1551808Not my opinion happy, my take would be that he’s rightly calling out the boo boys in the crowd for their slapped arse response to his substitution on a Saturday.
However, it does fall in to the pattern a couple of Chelsea fans Indrink with have frequently pointed out. When he’s picking fights with opponents he’s in his element but when he starts squaring up to his own then alarm bells should start ringing.
I prefer my take on it…he’s just putting the miserable moaning cunts back in their box.
Enjoy the game…
October 31, 2017 at 4:00 pm #1551814Yeah, he did say something in his post match interview like “Are these really red devils, i don’t know”. But the message was a bit lost i think. Was he calling out the fans who booed him for taking off Rashford? Hopefully he never reads this forum if that’s the case! ;o)
October 31, 2017 at 4:03 pm #1551817JM “I hope you enjoy the Benfica game more than some of you did against Tottenham”
I think the fans will enjoy the game if you try to play attacking football… Watch this space. JM cannot take on the fans and win. He thinks he can. They are paying to watch and they love their club, they have seen much better than you come and go.
October 31, 2017 at 4:09 pm #1551819It is hard to see Benfica getting anything out of this game, given they have lost all three group games so far and have not had a shot on target in two of those three ties. Utd 4-0 Benfica
October 31, 2017 at 5:16 pm #1551823@fatrooney. Well said mate. It’s clear that the comment was aimed at the pundits as was the one when he made the “ssshhh” gensture towards the camera after the final whistle against Spurs.
Main thing is Hose is clearly getting wound up and he needs to stay calm. The anti-United agenda will only get stronger as we get closer to restoring ourselves as a top side. He better not self destruct because of the opinions of pundits.
October 31, 2017 at 6:50 pm #1551836As I said, bailly, matic and lukaku are undroppable
October 31, 2017 at 6:57 pm #1551837Decent XI. Just a shame no place for Romero. Looking forward to seeing how McTominay plays. Most importantly though is how we approach the game. If we really go for it we could win 4 – 0. If we are cruising Lukaku and Matic should be taken off after 60 mins. Would be nice to see Shaw get a good half hour also
October 31, 2017 at 7:17 pm #1551840Glad to see Jose giving youth a chance in Scott McTominay
October 31, 2017 at 7:25 pm #1551841@manthisle. With our current squad – Pogba, De Gea, Bailly, Matic, and Lukaku are undroppable in Premier League and Champions League games and so they should be in my opinion. Even if they are knackered.
With Chelsea coming up on the weekend I see that Rashford, Young, Herrera (has to do a man marking job on Hazard), and Mkhitaryan are being rested. Hopefully we get some type of performance out of Lingard and Mata because Lukaku has really been struggling for service lately.
Hopefully can we get the goals early and substitute Lukaku and Matic at some point. McTominay will be interesting to watch in this situation.
October 31, 2017 at 8:03 pm #1551853I bloody knew he’d miss. Fouled player shouldn’t take penalty. Not sure it even was a pen tbh
