According to Paul Scholes, United are boring. I agree. Scholes also said after the PSV match that they lack quality up front. That may also be correct. But what struck me watching the match last night wasn’t poor performances from Martial and Rooney. Yes they were poor but the midfield was incredibly slow, yet again. We were playing against PSV at Old Trafford and LVG had 2 holding midfielders on the pitch.
Schneiderlin had his worst performance in a United shirt and looked awfully off the pace. He was slow and his passing was terrible, I lost count of how often he gave away the ball in his own half. His defending wasn’t that better either; the PSV midfielders walked past time and again. I’ve not been that impressed by him this season and you wonder if United are just too big for him.
I would like to see Blind have a run in midfield as his passing is such an asset and he has that ability to unlock a defense with a killer pass.
Of course we need to buy a striker in January and you just wonder why LVG let Chicarito go as he wasn’t going to sign Falcao. Martial is just 19 after all and can’t be relied upon yet to provide the goals on a regular basis. Wilson I don’t think is just good enough and Rooney is in decline I’m afraid.

You only have to look at how Barcelona and Bayern took off after they sacked him.

He spends a whole lot of money, and doesnt offer much in return.

I think utd are a couple of fast paced players off being a decent side. At the moment they look very average but then so do all the pl teams. Utd and aresnal are close to going out of europe yet they are the teams near the top of the league. Is the pl now just an average league? There are no top sides in it like the great utd teams over the years or joses 04-06 chelsea side. These were teams that were really hard to beat ands scored for fun. Utd were only in a cl final l4 years ago.

LVG has spent 250m but who stands out as stop signing? Martial is doing ok and will get better but Scherdnlin, Sweinstieger, darmian , depay etc are not doing it at the moment. Herrera has done well but he is in and out of the team. Shaw looked really solid but a terrible injury has set him back. If i was a utd fan i would be happy as they are neaar the top of the league and there is the hope they can get better but at the moment they are very dull and if it wasnt for de gea would have less points

Utd just keep winning games though. The defence is very strong. City with everyone fit look the best side. Aresnal can look so good but then they have results like sat in them.

As I’ve just said on another thread, there are stark similarities with Benitez at Liverpool. Cold man management, well disciplined and strong defensively. He’s doing a ‘job’ at United, but the nature of his game, generally speaking, puts a greater reliance on the flair players to deliver the goals, and this is what Utd are lacking what with a Rooney now in his twilight years and a very young Martial. Until that is rectified, expect more narrow victories and draws.

van Gaal is very similar to Mourinho and also Benitez to a lesser extent-they spend a lot of money on bringing in highly priced players who have the ability and skill but then set up their team to a more defensive style which then defeats the purpose of paying so much for the ball players.

The just had on the BBC rolling news page that Moyes win percentage was 52.9% and LVG is 54.5% so a 1.6% increase for over 250M spent, and worse football to watch as this thread indicates. So is this enough Utd fans? At that rate he could get up to 60% with another 1BN to spend.

United have always been boring from Fergusons days as well – cause they always registered last minutes victories appeared to give the message that they were somehow exciting to watch

Rover Bond – Utd were far more entertaining under Sir Alex. Scholes has highlighted that he didn’t take a risk and played safe he got dropped. LvG seems to implement a philosophy which completely mirrors Sir Alex’s.

Manthistle – For once I agree with you, LVG seems to be a safety first manager and taking a risk is more likely to get you dropped rather than the other way. From thing I have read it was very much the same at his previous clubs, and even the Dutch public felt that the game against Spain covered how defensive he was in his approach at the World Cup.

Paxman – Casing point occurred last night. Ashley Young was brought on in an advanced position and did well setting up a chance for Lingard who put it over the bar when he should have scored. His reward for showing a bit of creativity was to be demoted to right back when Mata came on. It was as if he was being punished for being entertaining.

When LVG was in charge of the Dutch he was slaughtered by the media and fans for changing the way they play. Look were they are now.

Utd always played with pace under Ferguson. They tore teams apart on the break. Utd are very solid at the back and degra is top class but the team real lack imagination going forward. The flair players look like they are stifled and are afraid to express themselves. They have food fast attacking players

United fans want to believe that they always played entertaining football. Yes they did when Busby was the manager. On a similar issue and as an example I once mentioned to a United fan that Blackburn Rovers who I dont even support in the slightest have the best sounding name for a football team by far, he was horrified that I did not say Manchester United had the best sounding name for a football team. Now that is the typical manner United fans always think or behave, you cant even use the term red blinker glasses as its too much of a narrow paragon.

And some people cannot see anything positive in another team based upon a pre determined opinion of the club.
