Klopp in his rotation, seems like he does not want to start our 4 top attacking players together i.e. Salah, Mane, Firmino and Coutinho, so as to keep them fresh and hungry. In the previous 4 games, only Salah has been involved in all, while the other three have been involved in 3 games, although Mane only played for 5 min in one of them.
Going by this theory, Salah will most likely not start on Wednesday, and we could see a front three of Mane, Firmino (or Sturridge) and Coutinho counter-attacking with speed like against Brighton. Just speculating, doesn’t bother me either way as long as we win both matches next week
December 3, 2017 at 11:19 am #1565230I think the 4 will start both our next Games and he will rotate when wba come to Anfield
December 3, 2017 at 11:31 am #1565240I can definitely see all 4 starting against Everton in the derby, but I expect some rotation on Wednesday – possibly bringing Salah off the bench to devastating effect.
Mane and Coutinho should start on Wednesday, as they only played one game this week. And I can see Sturridge playing a part in at least one of the games
December 4, 2017 at 10:56 am #1565627I’m with Sean, I see all 4 starting the next 2 games and then would expect a bit of rest for some.
December 4, 2017 at 11:22 am #1565636Having looked at it again, if Klopp does rotate, I can see Firmino, rather than Salah, being rested on Wednesday, mainly because it will be his third full game in 7 days. Also it is too important a game to not start with Salah.
Thus a 433, with Coutinho in midfield and Sturridge as striker. Don’t care if I’m right or wrong, as long as we win.
Ideal scenario is to go up by a few goals early in the game, so as to take off most/all of our top attackers for the derby
December 4, 2017 at 12:10 pm #1565660I’d go with that songman and keep bobby fresh for the derby because that fat twat Sam will do everything he can to frustrate us like he did with Sunderland a couple of seasons ago. Moscow are pants and if we don’t do them then we barely deserve to be in the Europa.
December 4, 2017 at 12:32 pm #1565675Correct me if I am wrong but we could lose at still go threw unless we get an absolute spanking?
If so i can see a few players getting a rest
December 4, 2017 at 1:09 pm #1565693Yes, losing and going through is a possibility, but Liverpool want to finish top so as to get an easier opponent in the next round.
Best scenario is to give our top attackers up to 60 min, and then take them off for the derby
December 4, 2017 at 1:28 pm #1565706I’m not sure we do go through if we lose. Isn’t it down to head to head rather than goal difference?
December 4, 2017 at 1:30 pm #1565707I am of course assuming Sevilla win against Maribor
December 4, 2017 at 2:23 pm #1565736Think this is how it works…. If Moscow beat us, we’ll both be on 9 points, but Moscow will be above due to a better head-to-head against us. If Sevilla then beat Maribor we are out. If Sevilla lose against Maribor, we progress because we’ll have more points than Sevilla. If Sevilla draw against Maribor then we should still progress because we’ll be on equal points with Sevilla but will have a better head-to head against them due to scoring more away goals. Think that’s all fairly simple isn’t it? However, let’s just stuff Moscow and take away all of these ifs/buts/maybes.
December 4, 2017 at 2:35 pm #1565750Let’s face it Haribo will not get anything against Seville it is up toi us to get at least a draw with Spartak, but if we are going into the last 15 drawing it will be twitchy end to the game knowing 1 goal would put us out, they will know that so will play to keep it at 0-0 till as late as possible.
December 4, 2017 at 2:49 pm #1565757Best option is to beat Spartak as soon as possible in the game, and by a few goals, so we can rest players for the derby
December 4, 2017 at 2:51 pm #1565758We better win then !!!
winning the group could still mean Bayern or Madrid tho !!!
December 4, 2017 at 5:28 pm #1565824This is the first CL season I can remember where there is not much of a benefit finishing 1st rather than 2nd.
December 4, 2017 at 6:02 pm #1565827But if we finish second…and all of the groups go according to “form” over the last group games, then we can’t play Sevilla, Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs – which will leave us with PSG, Barca or Besiktas. Doesn’t sound too clever to me! Think I’d prefer to take a stab at some of the second place teams,
December 4, 2017 at 6:08 pm #1565828Yes, there’ll be Real Madrid and Juve to look out for as second place finishers….but much better odds to get an “acceptable” draw from the other 5. Basically, finish 2nd and we’ve got a 67% chance of getting a stinker; finish first and that dips to around 28%. Apologies if I’m not understanding the intricacies of the Round of 16 draw.
December 5, 2017 at 8:25 am #1565998You are right, but a 1 in 3 of getting Besiktas isn’t bad, if we finish top we could get stinkers in Bayern, Roma, Real, Juve, with Porto / Leipzig, Shakhtar / Napoli, and Basel / CSKA being okay still less only 3 in 7 chance of a decent draw, better odds but not by a massive amount. Whatever happens the next round is more than likely going to be a tough tie.
December 5, 2017 at 4:18 pm #1566263…and that’s why we love being in this competition!
