Twenty years ago today, Chelsea won their first major trophy since 1970. Times were changing. It was a fantastic era of the Premier League

Wonderful team how good was Zola. Great memories of celebrating that Di Matteo goal with both my boys and their Grandad amongst the Chelsea hordes at Wembley.

CFC1905 of course we did! We went far (I think semi final) against Zaragoza in UEFA Cup? Great memory under Hoddle

Its a great little read that, it captures the excitement of the times we all felt and is on point for a lot of it. Hoddle was a catalyst in how the club approached modern day football as were his signings. But the rest as the say is history and what a recent history we have.

if you look at that team compared to todays team its anyones guess which one is more talented – I would say that the older boys were generally better players therefore what is puzzling me how come we did not win the league then or why did we win it now?

20 years ago today – jeez, it feels like yesterday. As I type this, exactly 20 years ago we were 1-0 up! What a wonderful occasion it was and such a relief to win something meaningful for the first time since 1971. That was a great team, with so many entertaining players. Who knows how they really compare to our current side, and really who cares. They were great, this side is great, Mourinho’s first Chelsea side were great, sides from the more distant past were great – we should celebrate them all!

Aindro, we were the first Champions in 1955 to qualify for the European Cup but the FA barred us from participating, we won our first European trophy v Real Madrid in 1971 before Liverpool had ever won one, we hold the attendance record for a league ground unofficially more than 100,000 v Moscow Dynamo in 1945 and we’re 112 years old.

We also won 5 major trophies in the 7 years prior to the Abramovich takeover

But as 1905 suggests we had no history before Roman. 🙂

bort – One of the many highlights of that campaign, to be added to RDM’s final goal, the comeback against Liverpool and beating Portsmouth in the fog in the QFs! For individual skill it is unbeatable. A moment to remember from the guy I used to call the Prince of Magic.

I remember the comeback against Liverpool clearly! Watched the game with my best mate who had been a Chelsea supporter for ten years prior to that game. It should be mentioned, before we watched it together, I had absolutely NO interest in football what so ever! And I’ve been a loyal Chelsea supporter since. Seen them play everytime they’ve been in Denmark and been at Stamford Bridge a couple of times. Bring on the next twenty+ years!
