Chelsea have submitted a planning application to rebuild Stamford Bridge into a 60,000-seat stadium at the estimated cost of £500million.

December 1, 2015 at 1:02 pm #720210Seen the plans already and they look good. Council already has the plans as they were submitted in November according to the article. Still a few hurdles to complete but to have progressed so far I would expect few, if any, further problems so it will all be down to following the red tape. Obviously still have to find a replacement venue but to get a 60k seater stadium in 3 years would be an excellent achievement and only improve us in terms of FFPR> KTBFFH
December 1, 2015 at 1:57 pm #720256First bit of positive Chelsea news this season! And what an owner Chelsea have.
December 1, 2015 at 2:26 pm #720278Its pretty clear that H&F are desperate to keep Chelsea in the borough, especially now that QPR and Fulham are no longer in the Premier League (shame!), so cant see this not going through. Wembley for the two or three seasons of the build! I have also seen it reported that the stands will retain their current names, and ST holders will have the corresponding seats in the new stadium, which is good news.
December 1, 2015 at 2:41 pm #720288Typical Chelsea. They think they can throw money at a stadium and simply buy an atmoshpere. No idea about anything.
December 1, 2015 at 2:56 pm #720296Hi, I have been to many stadiums in England and find that atmosphere is only their when the home team is winning and not great at all when the home team is losing especially at Anfield and the Emirates.
December 1, 2015 at 3:03 pm #720301liverpool_1986 – Typical Liverpool supporter, paranoically concerned that another club is doing something good!
December 1, 2015 at 4:07 pm #720324Liverpool 1986 – my interpretation of what has been stated in terms of good atmosphere is not related to what the Chelsea fans directly create but more as a general statement for the benefit of all fans that attend games at the Bridge. I think if you look at OT and the Emirates there is a theme that the bigger the ground it is sometimes much more difficult to create the type of atmosphere that the English fans are used to and is typically generated in smaller compact grounds. Just let us build a bigger stadium and if you don’t want to come along then that’s an extra ticket for a valued Chelsea supporter to have…!! KTBFFH
December 1, 2015 at 5:52 pm #720353some fans are already in panic mood. hahaha, they thought Roman will walkout of Chelsea soon, but here he is funding new stadium. Liverfool 1986, we are not interested in buying the violent and disgraceful atmosphere at Liverfool.
December 2, 2015 at 8:17 am #720517Forgive me a cheeky memory of that massive new stand in the 70s. Anyone remember?
December 2, 2015 at 9:22 am #720554Hi John – I presume you are referring to our East Stand which was going to be the start of a SB rebuild but we ran out of money and could not finish the project. Since then we have had to build around this “white elephant” but I guess not for much longer….? KTBFFH
December 2, 2015 at 9:45 am #720570The East Stand was the Stand that almost did for us,who could have believed what has to happen since?
December 2, 2015 at 1:57 pm #720730Who would have believed that 10 years ago when Roman first acquired Chelsea “as his toy” according to the press and most opposition fans, that he would still be here and ready to invest upwards of 500m to build a brand new 60k stadium and at the home we have played in since 1905. We were very lucky that day 10 years or so ago…? KTBFFH
December 2, 2015 at 2:35 pm #720763How many times did we have to read oppo posts along the lines of, “you just wait until Roman has tired of his plaything etc etc” 4 PLs, 4 FA Cups, 3 League Cups and a Champions League later, and we are still waiting!
December 2, 2015 at 9:24 pm #720933Too true Liquidator. That trophy haul is pretty impressive, and a brand spanking new 500 million quid stadium into the bargain. No one can hold a candle to Roman. And just look at where the club is now. Five points above the bottom three! Still, there’s no need for panic. And even if it was to deteriorate further over Christmas, isn’t it comforting to know that you are always able to dial 999 for emergency assistance 24 hours a day.
December 3, 2015 at 12:05 am #720997DK – Oh what a shame. You nearly made it through a whole message saying positive things about Chelsea, but you just couldn’t quite hold all that negativity back, could you? Pity. Keep trying though.
December 3, 2015 at 12:43 pm #721250nine nine nine and CFC1905 – I was sort of remembering that it bankrupted the club to such an extent that the playing staff suffered, then relegation beckoned. Quite a long and painful period even when compared to City’s woes over the decades.
Still as long as the cash is pumped in this time it cant affect it.
I can just remember the old SB on the telly – sort of unique among top flight grounds and with the Shed stuck on the end sort of thing. Big and oval – can I remember the running track still there in the early 70s or had it gone by then?
December 3, 2015 at 1:00 pm #721266john@staustell. It was definitely there in the early 70’s, and its all a bit vague in my memory now, but I think it was there until the Matthew Harding opened in the early to mid nineties, when Hoddle was manager, I think?
December 3, 2015 at 1:07 pm #721276Hi John – my recollection is that the running track was still there. Yes it was a large oval ground with the Shed at one end and the north stand at the other – do you remember the original north stand on stilts that swayed as crowds stamped and clapped…? All stared with good intentions but we ran out of money and many of us older fans will still remember the bucket collections outside the ground and on the trains as we travelled the country to away games. The fans did the best they could. Its actually quite funny looking back and then looking at the ground as it is today and then what it potentially will become if planning is finally approved. Some weird kind of long meandering journey….!! KTBFFH
December 3, 2015 at 1:13 pm #721283Disleksick, how sad that you try and turn a positive thread about the building of a new Stamford Bridge into another Chelsea negative.
You are either no Chelsea fan or you don’t understand the meaning of support, and you certainly don’t understand the history of the club and how close it was to going out of business in those dark days of the early 70’s bought about by the building of the East Stand.
I suspect the former rather the latter which makes your obsession to post on a Chelsea site as negatively as you can about all things Chelsea even sadder!
