On Wednesday we will play another game. a game we shouldn’t have had on the schedule. i would throw Barkley straight in to the party. i would rest Hazard, Morata, Fabregas, Azpi, Alonso, Moses, and Kante. i would play 3-4-3. Cabalero, Rudiger- Luiz- Christensen, ZapaCosta- Bakayoko-Drinkwater- Keneday, Barkley- Batshuayi- Willian. Subs, Courtois,Azpi,Fabgregas, Hazard, Morata, Musonda, Pedro.
January 16, 2018 at 1:30 pm #1584266I think we should go back to 3/4/2/1 for this game and keep the 5 man midfield purely for games against the top teams.
Sounds like Barkley will be eased in from the bench.
Given Morata’s confidence problems there’s an argument he should start and hopefully if he scores a goal or two against Norwich it will boost his confidence and he will start firing again.
I would be tempted to start Hudson Odoi this boy could be immense although I think it is more likely he will be on the bench too.
I would start Ampadu too and rest as many as we can but have all the big guns inc Hazard on the bench to be used in an emergency if necessary.
January 16, 2018 at 2:46 pm #1584311Unfortunately no Barkley debut tomorrow either as a starter or off the bench he was signed too late for the 3rd Round.
Brighton away in the Saturday lunchtime live match maybe?
January 16, 2018 at 2:48 pm #1584314Barkley cannot play as he was not registered in time for the original game. Fabregas and Cahill are both out
Personally, I would start the same team that took us to the replay to see if anyone can redeem themselves BUT ensuring that we leave the big guns on the bench this time (just in case). If they play to their capability they should be good enough to beat Norwich
The only change I might consider is to start Musonda ahead of either Pedro or Willian (toss a coin) to see if he can make an impact. Lets not forget this goes to extra time and penalties as it must be concluded on the day and we do not want that extra exertion
We have to be focussed on Arsenal next Wednesday as that represents a great chance to win a trophy and we could also rest a few for Brighton to ensure the big guns are rested and fit. KTBFFH

January 16, 2018 at 8:39 pm #1584451I will be disappointed if we don’t see any glimpse of Barkley tomorrow. this is the perfect match to ease him back in to the team.

Barkley is ineligible. He was not registered in time before the first fixture. You cannot register anyone else until after the fixture is complete. The original fixture and the replay count as one.
January 16, 2018 at 9:32 pm #1584472Thank you Bort for the information. i didn’t know that. what about the EFL cup? do they have similar rules?
January 17, 2018 at 7:49 am #1584533Confirmed that Luiz and Ampadu will both start as part of the back 3. That must mean either Rudiger or Dave starts with the other on the bench.
Conte waxing lyrical about Ampadu and more than happy to give him game time so certainly looks (in his opinion anyway) as though we have a great talent on our books and if he is to remain as part of the back 3 then with Christensen, we have a potentially brilliant young pair of defenders who could build up a really great partnership for a few years to come
Let’s hope that they both have solid games tonight. KTBFFH
January 17, 2018 at 8:35 am #1584553Personally i can’t see Conte playing both Ampadu and Luiz in the same back 3. either of them could be thrown in to the midfield. i suspect Ampadu and Drinkwater would be in the midle. with both Luiz and Rudiger plus Azpi could be the back 3. Luiz doesn’t suit to play on either of the flanks in the back 3. and Ampadu is similar. fingers crossed if either of them features.
January 17, 2018 at 9:18 am #1584577CMan,I’ll have to suspend you if you don’t read my posts.😊 (see my post @2:46pm above) Lol.
It’s a shame mate Barkley missed the deadline by hours, I believe the club are arranging a friendly for him to give him some match practice and he’s fine for the 2nd leg v Arsenal if selected and I suspect assuming he comes through the friendly ok he may be on the bench v Brighton. Cheers 999
January 17, 2018 at 9:22 am #1584581Conte has said with a lunch time game v Brighton just a couple of days away there will be lots of changes v Norwich.
I guess something similar to the side who played at Carrow Road hopefully with more big guns on the bench if needed.
January 17, 2018 at 11:20 am #1584650As I said before, I would be inclined to start with the same team that struggled so badly at Norwich to see if they can redeem themselves. On paper they are still strong enough to go and win the game
Sounds as though there will be other changes which makes sense when we cannot afford to drop any points at Brighton and then be fresh to take us to Wembley in the next game…!! KTBFFH

I don’t think if Conte would want to start with the same team. given that they struggled to create any clear cut chances. i would like them to be mixed with our establishment. for instance i would be tempted to start with Fabregas alonside Drinkwater, and Hazard up top on his own supported by Willian and Pedro. Norwich will sit back and have as many men as possible behind the ball. so a target man would easily be marked compared to the more mobile front trio.
January 17, 2018 at 1:05 pm #1584711CM – do you really want to start with Hazard, Pedro and Willian knowing we have a crucial 6 pointer league game on the Saturday followed by a Wembley defining game a week today
I would make the changes today as Norwich were poor at their place (no shots on target) against an atrocious Chelsea team on the night. We can only improve and I agree that they will look to stay in the game for as long as possible. If we cannot break them down then extra time and penalties so I would be bringing on the big guns later in the game if they are needed
Been concerned and confused by some of the recent team selections and substitutions recently so it will be quite interesting to see which way Conte decides to go. KTBFFH

I think you are missing my wisdom. going to extra time is the last time we would want. i would rather play Hazard tonight and put him on the bench or take him early on Saturday. i don’t think Conte will start with Fabregas at Emirates. he will keep him on the bench. as we may want to keep a clean sheet. but if he intends to play him, then i can’t see Fabregas playing at Brighton. my prefered team is 3-4-3, Caballero, Rudiger – Luiz- Ampadu, Zapacosta – Drinkwater – Fabregas-Kennedy, Willian – Hazard – Pedro.
January 17, 2018 at 1:33 pm #1584721Shouldn’t there be a chance we will see Musonda play some part tonight?
January 17, 2018 at 2:22 pm #1584748Liquidator you would hope so and Hudson Odoi too I know we’ve been here before but based on what I’ve seen of him this lad could be something really special imo
January 17, 2018 at 2:28 pm #1584751Conte is rightly prioritising PL points and a CL place imo as 1905 says the big guns can be left on the bench and be bought on if needed.
Whatever team we field should be good enough to beat Norwich who have just sold their best player in Pritchard to Huddersfield and despite how poor Chelsea were at Carrow Road Norwich were worse.
January 17, 2018 at 3:11 pm #1584789I would play Morata and Hazard. If one of them scores, it will be confidence booster. We can’t underestimate Norwich, they showed what they could do.
With Luiz & Ampadu to start on the back, we do need a good shield in the midfield as I don’t think Luiz & Ampadu had played together often. I would start Drinkwater and Bakayoko as DM.
So my formation: Caballero – Ampadu,Luiz,Rudiger – Zappa,Drinkwater,Bakayoko,Kenedy – Hazard – Willian,Morata -
