I have been reading stories today regarding Chelsea (Buck) having discussions with some hefty Chinese backers. I don’t think there is any hint of Roman selling up but more looking for ways to bring more revenue and backing to the Club as we continue to expand

No indication how close we are on this but the reports indicate at least one meeting has taken place

Interestingly I also see a report about China and their on line support for European clubs and we do not feature in the top 10 and yet Spurs do (for example)

What would people think about Chelsea going down this route which looks something similar to what has happened at City…? KTBFFH

Seemingly this has nothing to do with a change of ownership and the discussions are allegedly about Chinese or perhaps another investor taking a minority share.

Sheikh Mansour sold a minority share in City to Chinese investors not so long ago.

There’s a lot of investment to be done with Chelsea the new ground will cost circa £500m maybe this is a way of paying for that as well as perhaps opening up the Chinese market and the Chinese media to the club as long as it’s a minority share I can’t see too many problems with it and I totally trust Roman to do the right thing for the club.

Let’s wait and see what happens but if it does it will be completely down to Roman.

999 – Roman is not stupid and at no time has he given any indication he wants to sell. But if you look a the business model of City then I am sure there are things that Roman feels he can leverage off that will benefit both him and the Club

Agree that Roman will only do what is in the best interests of the Club. KTBFFH

1905, I think you’re last line is key mate and you’re right Roman will only do what he thinks are in the best interests of the club. He’s a Chelsea fan as well as the owner.

Too much grubby money in China I’m afraid, expect financial regulators to start investigating both in China and in UK/USA etc.. One of the reasons the foreign players cap was brought in was to stop capital flight from China circumnavigating domestic corruption laws… Which means there is a real possibility Chinese clubs are laundering vast sums of wonga for clients or owners…

Would not touch investors from the Far East with a barge pole.

Hull, Birmingham, Cardiff and most recently Leicester (even Man City) all clubs who either have or have had investors/owners from that part of of the globe that have had issues of varying degrees.

Look at how so many of the owners/investors from this part of the world want to be at the fore front of the clubs they invest in, and look how many times it has ended in tears.

When Leicester won the prem last season who was in the thick of the team photos on the pitch on presentation day!!! When have you ever seen the Glaziers, Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan or Abramovich on the winners stage or in the sponsors team photos, indicating a much more professional approach.

If Leicester go down they probably drop quicker than City, Leeds, Portsmouth etc and there won’t be much sympathy if that does happen!!

NI, I don’t think any of us really know enough about this to offer a sensible opinion but as I understand it Roman isn’t looking to sell the club and at worst he might be open to selling a minority share in the club which would still leave Roman calling all of the shots.

So currently I don’t think there is anything for us to worry about but let’s wait and see what transpires.

Personally I have every confidence that Roman will only do what he believes will be in the very best interests of the club just as he has always done. Cheers 999
