Rob, regarding errors, there is no place on the pitch for TAA at this stage of the competition, he’s just not ready (yet) for this level of football.
Clyne has to play in these games, and beyond
March 16, 2018 at 2:31 pm #1613289Personally speaking it looks like our European adventure ends here. We’re just not at the same level as City and I don’t think Jurgen is the type of manager to work out an alternative way to win. The fact it’s two games and they are home second leg also doesn’t help us. City will score in both ties and I’m not so sure we will. Anyway if they do us I’d love to see them win it.
March 16, 2018 at 2:38 pm #1613292Clyne?????
He hasn’t kicked a ball all season but now suddenly he’s ready for the latter stages of the CL?!?!
Don’t think so.
March 16, 2018 at 2:46 pm #1613302Why not, he’s been in full training for 3 weeks now? He’s ready
March 16, 2018 at 2:52 pm #1613305Shanksy, we knocked out United in Europa League with a much weaker team in 2016, with the home leg first, don’t see why we cannot do the same to City.
I know right now, that all Liverpool players, especially Salah and Mane, believe that we can go through – as long as we play to our potential, and don’t make any silly mistakes, of course.
The pressure is on City, not Liverpool, and we must find a way to destroy them the pitch, over to you Salah
March 16, 2018 at 2:53 pm #1613306Training is one thing songman, match fitness is quite another. City would tear him a new one mate. He won’t be ready.
March 16, 2018 at 2:54 pm #1613307That’s the problem songman. We WILL make silly mistakes.
March 16, 2018 at 2:55 pm #1613308Let’s wait and see then, regarding Clyne.
How do you know we will make mistakes? Do Liverpool make mistakes in every match?
March 16, 2018 at 2:57 pm #1613310Don’t get me wrong songman, would love to see us do it but I just can’t see how. Hope you’re right mate.
March 16, 2018 at 2:59 pm #1613312Didn’t say we will 100% go through, all I said is we have a good chance of going through if we play at our best, and cut out the mistakes.
Salah and Mane especially, will be really up for it
March 16, 2018 at 3:01 pm #1613319Emmmm….because he hasn’t kicked a ball all season?!!
There’s a world of difference between fit and being match fit
March 16, 2018 at 3:01 pm #1613320Well let’s wait and see then
March 16, 2018 at 3:01 pm #1613321Song, very left field here but I’m bearing in mind what Mourinho did with Valencia and Young so how about giving Ox a shot at right back? He’s built for the job in my eyes. Certainly not a gamble to make this season but just random food for thought.
March 16, 2018 at 3:22 pm #1613330Rob, that’s been done before by Rafa with Gerrard and Mascherano playing there.
But would Kopp go as far? Although he’s used Gini as a centre-back once, when we played 3 at the back, so you never know.
Another option could be a change in formation, at some point in the tie, to 343 or 352, as Klopp has been doing at the end of games. I could see Ox as a right wing-back here, like he played at Arsenal some times
March 16, 2018 at 4:17 pm #1613353Yeah…..
TAA and Gomez will continue to play right back like they’ve done all season long up until this point.
March 16, 2018 at 4:25 pm #1613356We are one of the few teams that can take city. First match we played ok (even though a goal down) until Mane got sent off. Second match we breathtakingly gave then a battering even with 11 men vs 11 and they only made the score look more respectable as we tired. Now we have VVD I think if we got into a big lead I think we could hold out. Don’t get me wrong man city could batter us too but they know we are the one team that can smack them where it hurts. I actually prefer the second leg away as it will be perfect opportunity for away goals, especially if we get a positive reaction at Anfield on first leg.
March 16, 2018 at 4:38 pm #1613376I reckon it’s about 70/30 in their favour. It would have been the same with Barcelona or Madrid, but more fun. I hope it’s not going to cost us in the league
March 17, 2018 at 7:04 am #1613461Songman of course we can win but as mentioned I don’t think we will and as said that’s coming from someone who rarely predicts a defeat for us.
I think over 2 legs they are stronger defensively than us and that will ultimately tell. I think in a one off game it would be more even but over 2 legs that gives them the edge, also personally would have preferred the second leg to be at anfield although that is much of a muchness.
Rob disagree mate, I know Seville have deserved to be where they are, I just think we would have been too strong for them and ultimately this is one of the toughest draws we could have got alongside Barcelona.
Again not being defeatist just saying how things will go but if other things go in our favour then we could very well still get through. The one thing we need to do is be tight defensively and that has to really happen over 2 legs.
Excited thou as for the second leg I will Be in Lanzarote and will find a bar to watch it 😀
March 17, 2018 at 9:35 am #1613504Well let’s see what happens Bob, we are the underdogs, but with less pressure than City who have never won a European trophy.
For Liverpool to go through we have to win the first leg, any other result in the first leg would leave us with an almost impossible task in the 2nd leg
March 17, 2018 at 9:55 am #1613511Spot on Bob, in a 1 off I think we can beat most teams but over the 2 legs they will have too much for us. Another plus for them is they effectively have the title in the bag so can rest key players ( they have world class players on the bench so it probably doesn’t really matter to them) whereas our squad is so thin we will basically have our top team out every game as we are in a real fight for a top 4 spot. This draw was the worst possible result for us IMO. That said we’ve been pretty lucky up until now so we can’t complain about who we’ve got.
I’m with you & Shanksy, unfortunately I think our C/L campaign will be ending here. Great to get this far though & well exceeded my expectations. -
