UEFA have compiled their greatest ever Champion League team: 4-3-3
Casillas, Lahm, Nesta, Puyol, Ramos, Iniesta, Xavi, Gerrard, Ronaldo, Messi, Henry

Subs: Buffon, Terry, Nedved, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Zidane, Ibrahimovic.

No Scholes or Lampard? Thats one argument settled at least….

I would replace Ramos with Roberto Carlos, Gerrard with Zidane and would put Ronaldinho instead of C. Ronaldo.

What most of you are doing is judging player by player for their whole careers, the team they put out if for champions league performances, yes Zidane did it in one final as did Gerrard, the difference is Gerrard carried his team Zidane didn’t have to.

Its all subjective but I wouldn’t have Ramos, Gerrard or Henry.

Seedorf has won it with 3 different clubs. Maldini is possibly the greatest left back ever. Raul is/was the leading CL goalscorer.

Henry’s inclusion is actually worse than Gerrard’s if you think about it.

A Liverpool fan must have sneaked on that panel to get Gerrard in over Zidane.

What about Maldini? Even Rivaldo and Figo?

Maldini who makes most experts best ever world 11 easy instead of Ramos and Kaka is also an easy choice ahead of Gerrard

Manthistle – You have a go at others for going against players etc just because of the team they played for then you go and make that April fools joke about Gerrard proving you to be of those you are trying to slate. You haven’t got the intelligence to have proper football debate so resort to these childlike comments on a regular basis.

haha no Maldini despite being rated as the best ever full back by just about everyone who actually knows the game, in midfield theres plenty better options than Gerrard.

Gerrard over Zidane is just ridiculous and how on gods green earth Henry gets in there I have no idea! Agree with other ramos’s inclusion is also very generous.

I think Ramos got in at right back and Lahm at left back, so Lahm ahead of Maldini? Tough to call. Obviously Zidane is better than Gerard but it was compiled using previous CL teams of the year.

Johnny – Exactly right, compiled. I don’t see why people get so out of their tree about such arbitrary teams.

Maldini is good enough to play in either full back positions or even as a center half and if you disagree with that then you obviously know very little about the game. I would even put Giggs ahead of Gerrard even though he was a wide player. I support Chelsea but I dont have any of them in the team though Drogba comes close as a pure striker, you dont have to be a great dribbler to be the best striker.

When did I disagree with how good Maldini is? Giggs ahead of Gerard in a midfield three? And you say I know nothing about the game? I assume they were trying to put players in positions they played at their peak.
I would of put Drogba on the bench as well. If you go 1-0 up early and you need someone to come on and fall over alot and waste time faking injury, he is your man.
