Coutinho “progressed” at Liverpool.
Not a single medal for his time here.Whether yous choose to believe it or not players care about winning stuff.
If they’re at a club that’s not winning things they’ll likely move on.
Players have financial and professional ambitions and if they cannot be met at a club they’ll move on if they can.Fans want trophies.
They want that day out.
They want to say “I was the when….”It’s depressing how far Liverpool fans expectations have fallen.
March 1, 2018 at 12:19 am #1605500The funny thing is you dont see players saying they join a particular club because the club win a X number of FA Cup or whatever trivial cups and when I say trivial cups that does not include the CL cup or the PL cup. Champion league is the ultimate prize for every football players so by securing a top four consistently we can attract top players to the club in the process increasing our chance of winning a trophy too.
It is a matter of perspective, some fans see winning any silverware regardless as a form of progression while others feel that getting into the top 4 is more important in the long run. But I rather the club plan for the future.
March 1, 2018 at 12:42 am #1605502Ok. So it looked to me like City were pretty chuffed at winning the league cup. Salford weren’t complaining when they won it last season. Same for the FA cup with Arsenal. I remember a time not too far back when going with no trophies for 2 or 3 years felt like the world was coming to an end. Winning breeds winning. We have to start winning the likes of the league or FA cup in order to progress further. Do people think constantly qualifying for CL is success? Maybe if we do it this year it will show that as it will be the first time we’ve had consecutive qualifying in way too long. To say that winning the so called “lesser” trophies doesn’t make any difference to progression and further success is crazy.
March 1, 2018 at 1:18 am #1605504Of course winning cups is great, but look at Arsenal, are they progressing? Ask their fans if they’d rather be in our position
March 1, 2018 at 5:03 am #1605506Consistently finishing in the top 4 and winning cups can go hand in hand. We should aim for both.
March 1, 2018 at 6:24 am #1605514Exactly
March 1, 2018 at 8:08 am #1605542This is exactly what I’ve been saying over and over.
It is actually possible to do both, qualify for the CL AND win trophies.
To hear some fans speak you’d think it has to be one or the other.Depressing.
March 1, 2018 at 9:12 am #1605574Of course it is possible to consistantly finish top 4 and win cups, (although much tougher than it used to be as we have 6 teams capable of top 4), but we are not even consistantly finishing top 4 yet, we are building to that position and then the cups will follow automatically, once you have sufficient quality to finish top 4 consistantly then you will have the quality to win cups as well.
March 1, 2018 at 2:03 pm #1605754Off topic, Neymar and mbappe both injured. Can we have them in the next round please 😊
March 1, 2018 at 2:25 pm #1605767Without Neymar and mbappe, probably PSG will NOT be in next round. Personally hope Sevilla beat Man.United in this round and we can face them in the next round.
March 1, 2018 at 2:28 pm #1605770PSG are getting beat 3-1 from the first round.
I’d suggest Real would be too strong for them.March 1, 2018 at 3:02 pm #1605777Ginger – Yes finishing top 4 and winning a cup can happen in the same season. Ultimately, it is not going to happen this season. If some of us are choosing not to wind ourselves up about it, that shouldn’t be an issue for you. If you want to complain from now until the end of the season that we are not going to win a domestic cup, then go ahead, but it isn’t going to make you feel any better, or change the situation. We could still win the CL this year, and finish top 4, that would be a pretty good season IMO.
March 1, 2018 at 3:04 pm #1605779United always managed to still win something if they didn’t win the league to keep that winning mentality alive and kicking.
March 1, 2018 at 4:19 pm #1605816Ginger, no need to suggest, PSG are definitely getting knocked out
March 1, 2018 at 7:19 pm #1605862Just listening to Vincent Kompany talk about how much he enjoyed and how important it was to win the League Cup for him last weekend.
I’d bet all the City players would echo those sentiments if asked.March 1, 2018 at 9:13 pm #1605894nediarb, Arsenal have hit the skids over the last couple of years. Prior to last season it was 16? consecutive seasons in the Champions League. There were trophies in that time as well. Yes they have fallen now but if you ask me did they progress those years then the answer is yes. We, on the other hand, have qualified for the CL twice and won one trophy in what is now eight years and counting. Arsenal are now in transition, the Wenger era is ending and we will see how they cope when the regime changes. People say we shouldn’t have to sacrifice CL qualification for the odd trophy and vice versa, which is totally true. That point is moot however, because for the last eight years we have basically been doing neither.
March 2, 2018 at 1:22 am #1605932Well we obviously don’t have the depth YET to get top 4 & win a cup, hell we aren’t even getting in the C/L on a regular basis let alone winning a cup. Hopefully we will get in there again after this season, we will buy a couple of top players to strengthen the squad & then we will do both. Sadly we aren’t there yet.
March 2, 2018 at 3:45 am #1605935Yet again putting words into my mouth, assuming that fans like me only want top 4 and nothing else. All i ever said was that getting top 4 is our priority and anything more than that is most definitely welcomed. However getting silverware but no top 4 is in my opinion not progression. Of course I want the club to win silverware AND finish top 4 but Im not going to risk top 4 position for that if i were to choose between the two.
Before people like ginger start assuming that i have mediocre mindset, once we get top 4 on a regular basis I would most definitely hope we can move on and be a title contender and win cups regularly but till then as long as we can secure top 4 now it is in my opinion progression. Depressing that Im always being misinterpreted.
March 2, 2018 at 4:30 am #1605941Among the last 16 in CL, I think that the strongest are Barca. and Man.City. I hope they will meet in the next round.
The Italian teams (Juve. and Roma) are very strong in defense and excel in waiting for a chance to punish the opponent. These teams are NOT what we want. Hope we can avoid them in the next round.
Shakhtar (they beat Roma 2-1 in the 1st leg) and Sevilla (if they beat Man.United) will be a better choice for us in the next round. although both of them are not easy to handle.
March 2, 2018 at 4:56 am #1605942Garydos- Thank you. My thoughts exactly
