I disagree that Courtois is replaceable. I m pretty sure that if he goes, we would not be able to get an adequate replacement. He will surely be one of Madrid’s target, together with de Gea and Lloris.
For me I rate Courtois really as one of the best, in the same bracket as Neuer and de Gea and Buffon and Cech when he played for us.March 21, 2017 at 8:38 pm #1454355According to Courtois, no contract extension has been offered to him. because him and the club are focusing on winnig the Premier league title. but when asked about his future. he said this ” i don’t see myself at Real madrid next season, i see myself at Chelsea” and he further stated that he is very happy at Chelsea and the success we are achieving this season. he said this ” I’m very happy at London and the success we achieved this season, Chelsea is the club that saw me 6 years ago and gave me the opportunity to sign for them and the opportunity to sign for Athletico who made me the keeper i’m today” will this end the the speculations about his future? here is the link to that story.

March 22, 2017 at 1:26 am #1454388Good news. For me we must not lose him. A world class GK is needed if we want to challenge for trophies
March 22, 2017 at 7:37 am #1454401hope he stays for at least another year or longer though you know human beings they change their minds by the day
March 22, 2017 at 7:51 am #1454405Honestly i had always heard consistent tone from Courtois which was he is very happy at Chelsea. but the media and a few blokes here led us to believe that he is seeking a move away from the club. this latest interview will further reassure us that he is not seeking a move away from the club. although some may dismiss it as a lazy journos looking for some clicks. Courtois is one of the best young keepers in the world right now, and it will make no sense if we sell him right now amidst our squad rebuilding in anticipation for our return to the Champions league football next season.
Building a team around him, Hazard, Kante, Azpilicueta, Alonso, Costa ( should he stay) and Luiz. with those players our core base is secure right now.
March 22, 2017 at 7:59 am #1454409This is very much like the “Okey koke”. 🙂
Far too much has been said by Courtois on this, his personal circumstances haven’t changed and the only thing that matters is that Courtois either signs a new contract in the Summer or the club have to sell him to protect themselves from a significant fall in his transfer value should his contract dwindle to less than two years and the same applies to Costa.
Personally I would prefer both to sign new contracts and stay with the club but I also have a certain sympathy for Courtois personal circumstances.
Speculation on both players futures won’t end until they either sign a new contract or move on this Summer.
March 22, 2017 at 8:02 am #1454413I have stated many times that regardless of the stories/rumours posted on here I have never seen an interview or comment attributed to Courtois where he clearly stated he wanted to leave
This is now the second time that I have seems Courtois “confirming” that he is happy and wants to stay
His comments regarding no contract talks are in line with everything that Conte has also stated so it would appear that as a Club we will have a busy close season in tying up a number of players
Obviously circumstances can change but it seems to me to be a very positive statement which I hope reflects the general feeling around the squad. KTBFFH
March 22, 2017 at 8:09 am #1454416I don’t know how Courtois would sign a new deal when he hasn’t been offered a new deal in the first place? Courtois can sign a deal when he is offered to him. otherwise he can only say he wants to stay at the club and we need to trust what he says not doubt a player’s commitment in the first place.
March 22, 2017 at 8:18 am #1454424My opinion is that Courtois didn’t get on with Mourinho, and that’s why all these stories came out about Courtois wanting to leave.
He has said recently that he is enjoying the style of play we are playing. For a keeper to say that is pretty big, so big that it was a dig at Mourinho basically. He also haboured hopes of returning to Spain one day, that’s fair enough, there’s no written rule that if an oversea’s player comes to play in the Prem, they have to stay for good?
He displays have been top draw this season and long may it continue.
Can we replace Coutois? Well there’s not many keepers at his standard right now that would be available. So no.
March 22, 2017 at 9:00 am #1454452Here are the facts, all anybody has to go on on here is what is reported in the Media and we all react to that as can be seen right now to the reactions to what Courtois has allegedly just said.
There has been enormous speculation in respect of Courtois returning to Spain with he himself suggesting he wanted to go back to Spain eventually and he has commented about how he enjoys the Spanish lifestyle additionally he has a Spanish partner and a young daughter residing in Madrid so somewhat understandably that’s not an ideal situation for him.
What he has currently said assuming it is accurate is positive but until the club put a new contract in front of him and he signs it the position hasn’t changed and the same applies to any possible bid from Real although according to the media Real may well now have fully turned their attentions to De Gea which if they have would close down that avenue to Courtois.
It will get sorted one way or another in the Summer ideally he will sign a new contract because Keepers as good as him don’t grow on trees.
March 22, 2017 at 1:57 pm #1454628We cannot hide the fact that Courtois’s family still resides in Madrid. That’s why the rumour of him to Real Madrid will always surface. Same thing as Conte back to Italy (so far rumoured to Inter) as his family still resides in Italy. The difference is that Conte plans to bring his family to London this summer. But not Courtois. Anyway it’s personal matter but I’d a personal experience like that due to work purpose: it’s not easy to live separate.
So for me: we should try to offer Courtois a new deal. If he signs, we should trust him to manage his own personal circumstance. We cannot afford to lose him. For me losing Courtois will have a bigger impact than losing Costa. There are good strikers outside like Lukaku, Morata etc who could move to Chelsea. But losing a world class like Courtois: we won’t be able to replace him. Can you imagine any of Neuer or de Gea or ter Stegen (I don’t rate him personally but he must be good to play for Barca) sign for us? I cannot.
March 22, 2017 at 2:02 pm #1454634For me, the players we must try to ensure to remain at the club: Courtois, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kanté. It would be very difficult to replace them with an adequate replacement, almost impossible even.
June 30, 2017 at 1:24 am #1499811I think I need to bring this topic again. It seems that Courtois (or his agent?) has refused our attempt to extend his contract (that will expire in 2019).
For me, he is one of the best GK in the world if not the best (as Neuer is over 30 years old already). What do you think, should we follow his demand?
Or should we listen to offers? I would be sad if he leaves as he’s proven to be decisive, especially last season, by making a lot of important saves.
But every time, there’s always instability about him: constant link to Madrid, now refused extension and asked same salary as Hazard.June 30, 2017 at 6:38 am #1499823Firstly their is a limitation as to how much clubs can increase their wage bill by put on by the PL to ensure the new TV deal doesn’t end up in the bank accounts of the players so these things have to be handled carefully by the club.
None of us know what’s really going on with these negotiations but an alleged requested circa 100% increase if true looks far to much to me and would be a problem for the club in respect of the new PL wage increase rules.
Hopefully a sensible compromise can be reached that sees Courtois sign a new deal if not and with the link to Madrid continuing to rumble on with 2 years left on the contract the club will be forced to make a difficult decision probably sooner rather than later too.
June 30, 2017 at 7:17 am #1499828If Courtois stays this season without signing a contract extension then Chelsea will lose out…massively. Madrid will offer no more than 20 million to a keeper in his final year of contract. Worse still, Courtois could just refuse to leave and run his contract down…we lose a 50-60m valued player for nothing. No, they either agree on new terms now or we sell him.
June 30, 2017 at 8:22 am #1499841From what I have read, Courtois wants to stay at Chelsea and is happy in London
He wants an increase but was reportedly going to wait until he sees what the Club does for Hazard and Lukaku (does he know something…?). Based on that he would then have an idea of what he was going to negotiate. It would appear that initial discussions have now reached an impasse..?
Recently the agent is reporting he is in constant contact with Real. For me this clearly smacks of the agent trying to stir things up in the hope that Chelsea will react thinking they could lose Courtois to Real. If, and I stress if, Real actually do approach the Club we are well entitled to say NO
If Courtois really does want to leave then we should get as much as we can and look for a replacement but I think this is all a ploy from the agent to try and get the best deal possible he can for his player (and of course this then reflects in his compensation as well…!!). KTBFFH
June 30, 2017 at 10:09 am #1499878We knew this situ with Courtois was coming.Even when he was on loan to Athletico we were wondering would we ever see him in a Chelsea shirt?.We even had to move Cech on before Courtois could come to us even though he’s OUR PLAYER!.Even then Barca and Real were showing an interest in him and we had to price him up to scare both clubs off!.No suprise to me Courtois’s situation has reared it’s ugly head again with only 2 years left on his contract and the Spanish big two yet again making a play for him.If I had a say at the club I’d be looking into the availabilty of Jack Butland (he turned us down the first time because playing second fiddle to Cech would’ve harmed his England aspirations, well he can come straight in as number one!) and or at a push Joe Hart (imo Joe is still a good keeper a new club for him could be just what the doctor ordered!).As good a keeper Courtois is we ain’t going to hang on to him for ever,I say put a high price on his head and get rid after we get a new keeper in.
June 30, 2017 at 11:07 pm #1500128The issue seems to cool off a bit as Madrid don’t seem to be interested in him anymore. Still Courtois needs to sign the extension of his contract, which is still not the case at the moment. It will be a big loss for us if he leaves, but as you say: we can’t allow that he’ll leave for free or for a greatly reduced price.
And TBH: I am not convinced of Willy Caballero. Begovic is a way better keeper than Caballero. I am disappointed that we did not pursue Areola of PSG or any younger talents or even British talents (Ruddy of Norwich?).
July 3, 2017 at 4:30 pm #1500828If D.Degea whom Courtois is competing against in the best keeper in the PL is earning £200k a week. i see no reason why we can’t offer Courtois similar amount. i see no reason to slam him as all of us are entitled to see as maximum as we can get. besides that, Courtois says that he is happy and wants to remain here many years. just give him what other keepers in his class are paid. after all quality comes at a cost nothing is cheap.
July 4, 2017 at 7:47 am #1500937De Gea has allegedly sold his house in Manchester and currently looks favourite to join Real if that happens (or even if it doesn’t) hopefully the club and Courtois will come to a sensible compromise?
In respect of the back up keeper it’s a very difficult position to fill Begovic came but wanted to move on after just a couple of seasons and Chelsea were in for Butland originally but he chose Stoke rather than to understudy Cech and Courtois arrival caused Cech to leave even Carlo left for Dpurs rather than understudy Cech.
Cabellero is a decent enough Keeper as a number 2 imo taking into account all of the above problems he has significant La Liga experience and importantly has PL and CL experience playing for a top club and playing in Cup Finals plus he was on a free and we got £10m for Begovic.
