This Coutinho saga is doing my head in. I’d understand it dragging on if there was a hint of him wanting to leave like we’ve seen with VVD and Keita but nothing has come out saying he wants to go to Barca or even PSG a few weeks back. Klopps interview stated he is not leaving in any way shape or form yet lfc journalists will drag this story out as filler, probably out of boredom from the VVD and Keita news which is just on repeat. In my opinion he is staying and I will have that doubt about next summer if we don’t improve but I’d wish reporters associated with the club would just go with the story that he’s not for sale instead of dragging out this story.
July 25, 2017 at 12:08 pm #1508139You forgot the Miss!
but ya, the Coutinho saga is even less likely than our own attempts to sign big players.
July 25, 2017 at 8:28 pm #1508329Sadly we’re almost certainly talking about more kids and last minute rejects rather than the glittering prizes which the owners are pretending to be interested in. I wish they would just be straight with the fans and go for the usual midtable fodder instead of dragging this on forever, it doesn’t help Klopp get his team ready for the new season. This happens every window.
July 25, 2017 at 9:55 pm #1508343timetogobr: You’re spend all of your time moaning that we don’t go for big signings and when we do…. well, you’re still moaning!
July 26, 2017 at 2:52 am #1508364bofa, timetogobr is Teamtalk’s Victor Meldrew. One miserable get.
July 26, 2017 at 8:26 am #1508400Reports today that Couts has agreed terms with Barcelona.
Barca are doing the same shit that we tried to do with Southampton/RB…
hopefully Coutinho has bought into what the club is trying to achieve under Klopp and is not tempted by a big move, losing him would be a disaster, as I have no confidence that we will be able to replace him especially with us struggling to sign our first choice targetsJuly 26, 2017 at 9:08 am #1508418The reports are absolute bullshit. Coutinho has agreed to nothing. Radio Catalonia are conveniently leaving out the fact that they would have to get Liverpools permission to discuss anything , never mind agree terms.
it’s nonsense and it shouldn’t be doing people’s heads in because there is absolutely no truth in it. He’ll be a Liverpool player when this window shuts.
July 26, 2017 at 10:38 am #1508464MrMak the reports may not be genuine, I don’t believe everything I read… But do you honestly think Barca haven’t talked to Coutinho? I personally don’t believe they would’ve put in a bid without knowing he will sign for them
it doesn’t mean Coutinho will push through a move but we can’t take anything for granted
as for getting Liverpool’s permission, after all we’ve been through in the VVD saga are you really saying they wouldn’t have talked to him without our permissionJuly 26, 2017 at 12:25 pm #1508520As if our owners and Klopp would allow our best player to leave this late in the window. We aren’t Arsenal
July 26, 2017 at 7:43 pm #1508663Torres left on practically the last day of the January window landing us in the shit.
July 27, 2017 at 1:23 am #1508725Shanksy, in hindsight 50m was probably a good deal for us for a past his best torres. The probelm was we spent 35m of that money on andy carrol!
July 27, 2017 at 8:51 am #1508790“as for getting Liverpool’s permission, after all we’ve been through in the VVD saga are you really saying they wouldn’t have talked to him without our permission”
To have a deal agreed, yes. Because having anything actually agreed with the player is proof of tapping up. But that isn’t the point for me, I use this “agreed” nonsense to write off bullshit articles.
barca can turn pretty much anyones head if they try hard enough, or at least they could but if you look at us this season, we can do the same. We have huge pulling power right now as a PL club but much more so as Klopp’s current ‘on the up’ club. He has huge draw and a good PL club has a lot of financial pull (or in this case, stay). They can afford to pay £150m for a player because they are selling someone for over 200 (so they say). . But if we really needed to, we could pay for a £150m player right now and won’t only have to sell the few who we’re trying to sell already.
I’m not saying that our club is as rich as Barca’s but we can much more go toe to toe with them before. A few season ago their draw on our players would be too much for us but as things stand now, I’m not in the slightest bit concerned that they will turn Coutinho’s head, this summer.
July 27, 2017 at 11:44 am #1508884I think coutinhos head is already turned by barca.
July 27, 2017 at 12:01 pm #1508899I guess we’re going to find out soon but I’m not convinced that he wants out. I think he wants to stay.
July 27, 2017 at 1:51 pm #1508968Another drama – no doubt that Coutinho will eventually want to go to the spiritual home of South Americans, Barcelona. But I don’t think he’s going to do it now. He’s definitely not ready for Barca this season, he’s still too inconsistent. At Barcelona inconsistencies get you booed and dropped quicker than a lead balloon. Like Saurez eventually did, he needs to build up consistency at LFC before thinking of leaving.
As for Liverpool, we have to show some balls here with regard to Barcelona. We’ve led to believe that Suarez went for 75 million when he went for significantly less. Whilst we didn’t develop Coutinho as a youth player, a large portion of his progression as an adult has been at Liverpool, we have patiently supported Coutinho development through thick and thin and I think to be low balled is a bit of an insult. If Neymar is going for 200m then Brazil regular Coutinho should not be allowed to leave for less than 150m (pounds).
July 27, 2017 at 1:59 pm #1508975Couldn’t agree more, Mwake. It is insulting to be low-balled by them, the bloody arrogance of it. They aren’t exactly the best thing going now at the moment either, so that false confidence might back-fire. Do they even have a manager yet? If so who is he and how does he stack up to Klopp.
Liverpool is the place to be. I just can’t see anyone wanting to leave right now.
July 27, 2017 at 2:07 pm #1508982Mak, come on buddie Barcelona are one of the biggest and best clubs in world football and at a different level to almost every club in the PL plus Barcelona is a beautiful City and the majority of South American players harbour a desire to play for either Barca or Real.
As for low balling it’s a tad rich to accuse Barca of that given Liverpool’s buying strategies,I understand your disappointment if it happens but you gotta keep it Real mate. 🙂
July 27, 2017 at 2:15 pm #1508989So much speculation – the Coutinho rumour doesn’t seem to go away. Aside from what everyone thinks (and they are entitled to their view), no-one actually knows what the player feels or indeed whether the club may not be too fussed.
My personal (unverified :)) view is that he will stay as this is too late in the window for us to get a replacement. If they really want him and can meet the valuation and he wants to go, I guess Klopp will want to secure his alternatives before signing that off.
The good thing at least, is that contractually we are secure with him, so no need to rush.
If we get the targets we want and he stays it will be interesting if his view remains the same next season – I guess we will see…
July 27, 2017 at 2:29 pm #1509001So Liverpool want VVD but Soton don’t want to sell, Keita but RB Leipzig don’t want to sell and to top it off Barca want Coutinho and Liverpool don’t want to sell, but all 3 players want the move.
If i scroll through the forums there’s a fair few fans saying that Soton and Leipzig shouldn’t go against the players wishes.
Liverpool should let Coutinho go?!
Couldn’t write this stuff!!!!!
July 27, 2017 at 3:31 pm #1509043Clubs can contact player agents, thats not considered tapping up. Tapping up would be a meeting in person with the manager or a representive of the club.
Why do so many here think that Coutinho needs to go to Barca because he is South American? Yes Barca have had their fair share of americans but you can find plenty of americans that have stayed at one club in Europe after their move there.
If a offer comes in that is simple too good to turn down and the player himself wishes to go, let him move then. I still doubt that Coutinho wants a new challenge, i can see him at Anfield until he retires and there is no greater challenge than leading the club to its first league title in ages.
This is the same story every summer window and its the same posters that fall for it every year.
