Who’s the better player?
Ozil has better vision but Coutinho is a match winner IMO. Vids below
November 3, 2015 at 12:42 pm #692652interesting but i do think they are different style players, i class Coutinho as more of a goal threat and player in the David Silva.
Ozil is more of a play maker and visionary with passes but less of a goal threat
so for me hard to choose depends what you need in your team, as an Arsenal fan though I shall stay loyal and say Ozil but would be sweet to have both in the same team !
November 3, 2015 at 12:54 pm #692676Coutinho is nowhere near the level of Ozil and Silva. He is not consistent enough.
If there is a coach to get the best out of him it’s Klopp but I think it’s disrespectful to compare Coutinho to Ozil – they are not cut from the same cloth.
November 3, 2015 at 12:55 pm #692679I’m a fan of Ozil but IMO he lacks a bit of determination, whereas Coutinho will try too hard if he’s playing badly and make terrible decisions.
Put either of them behind a top striker and it’s a beautiful thing

Ozil hasn’t had a better season than Coutinho since he joined Arsenal though.
He had a terrible time when Wenger was playing him on the left or right
November 3, 2015 at 1:03 pm #692697No contest, Coutinho doesn’t come close to Ozil. Consistency seperates great players from good ones and Coutinho falls well short in this category.
November 3, 2015 at 3:16 pm #692952Coutinho has had one good game all season and that was on Saturday. Ozil has been very instrumental for arsenal all season IMO.
November 3, 2015 at 3:49 pm #693018Coutinho needs to perform on regular basis, thats what he lacks right now,but he is very good player. Can go on to become great.Ozil, needed his time to settle in the EPL,but has been instrumental for Arsenal so far this season, and if he could add few more goals to his game, would be unplayable.
November 3, 2015 at 4:33 pm #693093I’d say Ozil at the moment, and I’m a Liverpool fan. Coutinho is a fantastic player, but he reminds me of Luis Garcia (i.e he will produce the odd bit of magic now and again, but needs to be more consistent). The good thing is, Philly is only young, and I’m sure in the future he will be as good as Ozil, Silva, Mata etc. There was an article by Jamie Redknapp in the paper yesterday, comparing Coutinho’s stats to Mario Gotze when Klopp managed him at Dortmund, and their stats were very similar. If Klopp can bring Coutinho’s game up a notch or two, I think his future is very bright. Consistency is definitely the key for him
November 3, 2015 at 4:48 pm #693120I didn’t wanna join in this discussion because my view is biased, although I rate Coutinho very highly. I will say one thing though, it’s nice to see Ozil getting better recognition and less criticism on here than he used to…
November 3, 2015 at 4:59 pm #693141Ozil has been fantastic of late so I thought this would be right time to have the discussion
But he’s yet to have a better season than Coutinho, could this be it?
November 3, 2015 at 5:14 pm #693165Well the decision is made according to some stats reported in the telegraph Ozil is the best attacking midfielder in Europe this season, although this was reported tongue in cheek as the same stats have Carzola as the best defensive midfielder in Europe 🙂
November 3, 2015 at 5:38 pm #693198Ozil has the better qualities and know-how but I am still not convinced about him. He performs when the team is ticking but when the going gets tough he goes missing. Sanchez is much better than Ozil at doing it when nobody else is, for example.
Coutinho tries too hard to do it all on his own at times and I would say that, right now, Ozil is the better player. Certainly the more consistent one.
Both capable of great things of course and I would have them both at spurs in a heartbeat. Give Coutinho two more years and I think he will be the better of the two.
November 3, 2015 at 5:58 pm #693222Your comparing the wrong players mate.Ozil and coutinho are too very different players.Ozil is someone who is all about vision and keeps the game ticking, like silva.Coutinho is about getting something out of nothing, scoring match winners an exciting prospect.Right now,it’s obviously Ozil who’s the better player. However,I’ll be honest even though stats hugely defy my point for someone who has best assists per games ratio in the PL ever,I’m still not that confident about ozil.He just seems clumsy at times and seems like someone who’s not ready to run through a brick wall for the team. But let me tell you one thing he’s hugely respected by top players and managers around the world so sometimes I doubt myself in my judgement of him.
November 3, 2015 at 7:40 pm #693312Both Excellent but different types however someone summed it up perfectly for me…If you watch the whole game you don’t see Ozil but if you watch Ozil you see the whole game…
November 4, 2015 at 2:46 am #693510Based on their form over the years, stats proved that Ozil has been better than Coutinho for the past few years but if Coutinho can be consistent, he’s more of a complete attacking midfielder, he has superb technical ability, can dribble exceptionally, pass the ball well but won’t be as good as Ozil, and score goals.

Ozil has better vision and is a better passer. But Coutinho is more dynamic with his dribbling and shooting. Coutinho should be looking to add more goals to his game, he has the ability and at 23 has time to develop that trait. I see Coutinho more similar to Kaka than Ozil, but Coutinho really needs to step up his scoring rate. He has the potential and ability to be 15-20 goal a season midfielder (all competitions).
As for Ozil, well he is truly showing his ability. A genuine world class player.
November 4, 2015 at 1:25 pm #693961is this going to be the new Gerrard v Lampard?
I don’t like comparing players – I think they are different and I enjoy watching both of them play well – although both are horribly inconsistent, and this season Coutinho has only had two decent games
November 4, 2015 at 2:17 pm #694057I’d take Erickson over both of them, actually I wouldn’t cause we already have him, but he can do what both do and take better free kicks and cost 30m less than Ozil
