Do you guys think anything will happen at Old Trafford today?
Rumours are we’re still sniffing around for Perisic and that Periera will go out on loan… do you think they’ll happen? Will there be another ace up the sleev with someone like Lemar, Mahrez, Bale or perhaps even Draxler coming in?
August 31, 2017 at 12:25 pm #1525653I can’t see us going for Mahrez, Bale is a possibility but he’ll be overpriced and I can’t see that we’d want to pay the kind of money being asked on a player who misses so many games each season. Lemar or Draxler are options, and Perisic still perhaps. The advantage we now have over Inter in this case is that we don’t desperately need Perisic like we seemed to need him over the summer, now we merely want him, we’re less captive to their impression that he’s a necessity so maybe they will deal…..
August 31, 2017 at 12:33 pm #1525660I’d be astonished if anything happened with us today…all very quiet on the United front. Perisic is resolved at Inter now, Bale at Madrid too. I’ve lost quite a few quid on Perisic as well. Harrumph. Mahrez is not a Mourinho player in a million years (had a good game on Saturday though, waggling his derrière at our bench no doubt) and I don’t think there’s been any interest in Draxler or Lemar.
City and Liverpool look to be doing good business though. Ominously.
August 31, 2017 at 12:50 pm #1525683I can’t see any big names coming in. Pereira probably will leave on loan. Not really worried by what the other clubs do. We have a good enough squad which is full of confidence to comfortably finish top 4.
August 31, 2017 at 1:07 pm #1525703Nothing will happen, I suspect that was clear when Ibra was re-signed and JM spoke of money saying we wont be spending in January. That was a strange comment, which deserved a forum topic.
I guess we should wait till the window is closed but the big questions then will be……..
1) conclusions from the summer transfer dealings
2) did Ed do a good job?
3) are we good to go ?August 31, 2017 at 1:12 pm #1525711The more I see of Willian the more I think Jose should have made him his top target in the winger department. He’s such a talented lad, not a first choice for Chelsea either.
August 31, 2017 at 1:39 pm #1525736I think Willian would have been impossible after everything that went on with Lukaku and Matic
August 31, 2017 at 1:40 pm #1525737The difference between last season and this season is Matic. A whole lot of difference. If hes got injured then we are certainly not ready to go.
August 31, 2017 at 1:50 pm #1525746Keep being linked with moves for Mahrez and Draxler, but I hope we stay away from Bale.A.Turan is another player we are being linked with!
August 31, 2017 at 2:01 pm #1525753I think Ed did a reasonable job…slightly under par if you forced me off the fence. Lindelof was in the bag already but Lukaku and Matic look great pieces of work. Difficult to criticise him for Perisic as we offered over the odds anyway, the player wanted to come but Inter would not budge. I don’t think we should have gone to the £50m they were insisting on but the way the market went crazy, that’s the price for a good player now when two years ago it would have bagged you a worldly. We didn’t seem to have a back up strangely.
I also think we’re missing our own version of Hazard, that little bit of magic behind and off the centre forward. To have got Griezeman in as well would have been the dream, good to go and he’ll for leather. Perhaps it will happen next year? Maybe Pogba is the “game changer” playing further forward?
Are we good to go? I’d say we’re good to have a go but winning the league will require City not to hit top form. They might implode or they might explode. I think we’re weak on the left, particularly as I have little to no faith in Luke Shaw. I can’t believe we haven’t made a signing in that position a priority. Sticks out like a sore thumb.
Looking forward to the season though, we’ve started well and look like a much stronger unit now, even if it is only two new players impacting the first team so far.
August 31, 2017 at 2:02 pm #1525755Doubt owt will appen t’day but we need upgrades on Lingard, Mata and Herrera next season as well as 2 new FB’s unless Shaw improves.
August 31, 2017 at 2:33 pm #1525784Shame Aurier went to Spurs.
happyhurling – Willian would be an exceptional signing especially as he was the one player who played for Chelsea before Mourinho was sacked so surely Jose has a soft spot for him.
I think Mahrez would be perfect for us but he seems Chelsea bound.
August 31, 2017 at 3:27 pm #1525829Much rather Perisic than Mahrez, hope we stay away from him, just like with Rodriguez!
August 31, 2017 at 5:26 pm #1525933Yeah I think it’s been pretty good, people saying the club haven’t backed Mourinho are way off the mark I think. He’s signed 7 of his 8 targets and re-signed Zlatan. These are all first 11 players as well so it’s coming together for Jose. I think he’ll go close this season, hopefully win it!!!
August 31, 2017 at 5:46 pm #1525965So there are no excuses then.
August 31, 2017 at 6:32 pm #1526020Marhez would be good….. Can get past players so useful in all competitions. Prefer him on the right than Mata.
August 31, 2017 at 7:25 pm #1526099With only a couple of hours until deadline, if we don’t get a winger in I’ll have to say that Ed has not done a good job. We are Man Utd, we are the biggest club in the world – there shouldn’t be any problem with getting what the manager wants. Identify the player, pay the money and move on.
August 31, 2017 at 7:54 pm #1526147@zico. There are no excuses for Mourinho this season. When I say “no excuses” I mean we should be in with a shout for the title until at least the last 2 or 3 games and we must easily get out of our Champions League group.
Mourinho has tasked Ed with signing 8 targets and he’s got 7 of them, that’s an impressive strike rate in my opinion. We are still lacking a proper “trump card” type player as is being discussed in the other thread but I feel we are very close.
Of course, when we look at clubs like Real Madrid and PSG (they’ve now signed Mbappe and Neymar in one window), we are miles off in terms of attacking talent but we do now have a strong spine and a master tactician in the hot seat.
August 31, 2017 at 8:36 pm #1526202Arsene Wenger:
2016: Calls Paul Pogba’s transfer fee: ‘completely crazy’.
2017: Bids £92M for Lemar.August 31, 2017 at 8:40 pm #1526208What if Matic breaks down? Without him we are pretty much the same as last season.
