i may’be old school but i have to say the standard of defending in
the prem lge is shocking, and getting worse season by season.looking
    at the two big games this last fortnight,afc v utd-utd v citeh,the
defending was awful from all sides.i hope citeh go on and win the lge
for their attacking football but there’s not one citeh defender would
    get in our invincible side?

i don’t get how we have steve bould there who seems to do bugger all
or isn’t allowed to by wenger.if he does then he’s got a lot to answer
for.defending has become so bad in the prem lge now most teams like
to play 3 defenders, plus two holding midfield players, just to look a
lot more solid.thats not including having a back 5 when you defend.
whend we blew chelski away 3-0 at home they changed to a back 3
immediately and went on to win the prem lge.

the biggest reason why i want wenger gone is i’m sick to death of
seeing and watching the same old crap, schoolboy defending from his team.
we battered utd and should have got something out of that game.20
attempts in the first half, thats unheard of in the modern day game
and yet we had bugger all to show for it.same at so’ton yesterday.why
oh why, game after game, when teams press us high do we try to play out
from the back instead of clearing our lines.it’s the same old mistakes
being repeated season after season.thats why i want a new manager.we
    need change ASAP.

Exactly Steve – that was the best attacking display I’ve seen since the Invincibles. The 15 shots on target we had is a record and just our luck we were up against one of the best ‘keepers in the world, having the game of his life but individual errors and panic cost us. Now I’m worried it’s hit their confidence again which, as pathetic as it is, is something we regularly see from Wenger teams – one dent to the confidence and the form nosedives.

Bouldie’s role is the big, unanswered question. Either Wenger just doesn’t let him do anything, or he’s just a really, really bad coach. I really want to believe the latter, because if he’s just picking up a pay-cheque while Wenger lets him nowhere near the squad, I’ll have lost any respect for him I still had.

similar thread in the united page, i agree think of the defensive partnerships of even a few years ago were strrets ahead both in ability and how many games these players played and how consitant they were, look at us or united over the last 20 years and we had great defenders that new their job and rarely injured, todays quality is very poor all over….no top teams in Uk really have “great” defenders….

also how much would Bruc, Adams etal be worth in todays money?!

Well if you have a manager that neither cares about or understands defending what do you expect. Both Keown and in particular Bould have worked with our defenders and organisation improved, Wenger didnt like this, side-lined Keown so he left. The same thing happened with Bould, and Wenger didnt like another coach having a major impact so he stopped Bould from working exclusively with the defence, he wont buy the players we need preferring 2nd rate dross. As I keep telling you nothing will change until Wenger is gone.

Yes that’s right Wenger saw Keown and Bould organising the defence but thought no I won’t more mistakes so took the task away from them. What utter bollox

Fatmop, Fact as Keown has confirmed, why do you think he left. Then theres Tony Adams, read what he has said about the situation and the reasons why Wenger refused to have him back at the club. It takes a long time for it to sink in with you doesnt it. Wenger is an egomaniac control freak, its all about him and no one else. “The players and I all have our own views on tactics, but its only mine that matter”. Direct quote from Wenger after the Man Utd game.
