Conte has an issue. Being quite a pragmatic manager I’d say he’s currently hitting round pegs into Triangular holes. My major bone of contention isn’t actually the defence. It’s those in front of them and behind the strikers. The issue is midfield. Kate’s signing goes some way to addressing one hole in midfield. Sadly the other is Matic. In order for a Conte system to work, there needs to be hideous amounts of energy in the centre of the park.

Conte, when playing, was in a side with Sousa and Deschamps in the middle of the park. Vailli was up top, both Deschamp and Sousa we’re no slouches.

Fast forward to his all conquering Juve side. Yep, that midfield was based on big energy. Marcchisio and Vidal giving Juve serious power in the middle.

His Italian side had Veratti (who when playing us murdered every single piece of grass in Stamford Bridge) and De Rossi… Players who put in a shift.

So far at Chelsea, he has Kante. Potentially Oscar who can run… But Im not sure Matic is the answer, he’s not a player who can pick a pass going forward and when forward struggles to get back. And this is the dilemma… Which is why Naigolian and other names were mentioned.

A conte side has always been blessed with slower centre backs… But his midfields, including the ones he’s played for have all had energy. Still, I reckon he’ll work with what he has until he can get it right or walk away. Big task ahead for the Italian… I had forgotten he played alongside Vialli and Deschamps. 999… Deschamps is my next chelsea candidate for life after Conte.

Good points mate, I’m wondering if Willian could potentially play that role next to Kante? I know tackling isn’t his strong point, but he has a great engine, pace and a fairly decent pass. Let’s face it, he’s not exactly doing the business out on the wing! Probably wouldn’t work, just a thought.

A Player you mentioned above, Veratti, is my absolute number 1 dream signing for Chelsea at the moment, he would be absolutely immense next to Kante in midfield for us!

Bl… He would be excellent for us… Im not having a pop at Matic cause he’s improved on last season, I just don’t think he has the creative juices to split open a defence.. Which brings us back to a dilemma called Luiz. Midfield or defence?

Another dilema, 4th yellow for Costa up at the weekend!! Hull, Leicester, Man Utd are the next 3 fixtures. We dont want him suspended for the United game so should he try to get himself booked this weekend or does Conte rest him for the next two matches!

While Matic has improved, for me he;s not good enough. Why wouldn’t us try to pair Fabregas and Kanté with Oscar up front?
Like that, Oscar can help Fabregas defending. And Fabregas, played a bit below: he has room for his long passings to Costa or any of our wingers.
I would like to try that partnership. Fabregas as no 10 will simply not work

how about starting RLC in the middle and Chalobah also in alongside Kante? I reckon it could work against Hull.

RDP – based on what I have seen I would not want to give RLC a role on the EPL. Chalaboah – probably. KTBFFH

CFC1905… I think he’ll have the legs and if playing for his future in the side might have to step up quickly. But my impressions from last season remain. We dont have the legs to press as quickly as other sides and we dont have the legs in midfield to play Conte’s pressing game. Our get out ball in the opening three was a long diagonal ball. When that gets closed off, teams come through our middle and our wingers get by passed and the oppo go through the middle. I thought we missed a trick with Wanayama when he went to spurs… What we miss is an Essien.. or three of them. The other thing to do is compact the side. Make it smaller, use the pace to expand play. Either way, we just need willing runners in midfield. Something Jose paid the price for last season.

RDP: why? For me we have Kante and it’s a good deal. What’s wrong in our team selection so far is matic. He does not deserve to be in the starting 11. He improved, yes, but for me : not enough. We should try Kante,Fabregas plus Oscar as no 10. Or better, more attacking: Kante, Fabregas and Hazard as no10. Willian and Moses as wingers

I think we are wasting Kante’s qualities by playing him too deep push him up into the more forwsrd role that Matic is playing and we will see the player we saw at Leicester last season and either drop Matic back to play in front of the back 4 or play Chalobsh in front of the back 4.
