“This rewriting of Cans ability simply because he may or may not leave at the end of his contract is quite sad.”
That’s bullshit Ginger. If he stays or goes, I’ll still think he has been inconsistent. I didn’t say the same about Suarez when he left because it just wasn’t true.
The number of minutes on the pitch is related to the lack of options that we have in centre midfield. Lallana has been injured all season and Henderson has been out for two periods with injuries also. I’ve never said he’s a shit player but the fact is that we don’t have strength in depth there so it’s no wonder that he’s playing a lot.
I’ve thought the same about him since he arrived. He shows up for a couple of games and disappears for a few. Compare that to the improvement in the likes of Firminho, Salah and even Milner who seems to have a new lease of life. These guys put it in and impress week after week with a great attitude.
He has reportedly been offered higher wage which he refused and of course, it’s his prerogative. It’s also his prerogative to hold out on signing a new contract so that he can take care of himself financially because that’s what he has been doing but don’t mix that up with loyalty.
Maybe, he’ll be a top player at some club some day but from I’ve seen so far, I wouldn’t be betting on it. His progress is mediocre at best.
April 30, 2018 at 10:56 pm #1630492Can is the most used midfielder under Klopp and one of the most utilised players under Klopp.
Not this season.
Since Klopps arrived at the club.
He’s had plenty of options to get rid or play someone else but invariably he still picks him. Klopps not gonna stick with an average player in midfield when he doesn’t have to.
Your assertion that he’s an average player is nonsense.
May 1, 2018 at 10:08 am #1630592Since Klopp arrived, the options in CM have always been limited and Can has always been average and will continue to be in my opinion.
Why didn’t you deal with the first point Ginger which is that you were claiming that people’s opinions on his football were based on him leaving i.e. you seem to think that people are stupid enough to align someone’s loyalty to the club to their ability to play football or did you just get that one wrong… hard thing for you to admit I’d say!
May 1, 2018 at 10:25 am #1630609I think can on his day is a good midfielder and honestly if he stays then great and if he doesn’t then that’s fine to. The way I look at is Can is replaceable, I think we can upgrade on him to improve the first team for next season. Can wanting to go doesn’t just happen and I suspect that keita is some what a replacement for him in a box to box midfielder although I believe keita has more in his locker for goals and assists.
The club would have known he was not going to sign s new contract, he can go to juve and probably win the league.
May 1, 2018 at 10:57 am #1630630Can is clearly and demonstrably not an average footballer so forgive me if i can’t take what you say seriously.
May 1, 2018 at 11:03 am #1630641If Can is average then so is the rest of our midfield.
Like Ginger states, he is our most used midfielder since he arrived at the club, except his first season where he played in defense.
The only player at the club who has played more is Firmino.
I hope he stays and if he stays im pretty sure it will be down to the fans and our progress as a team.
Keep it in mind that I would never trade one of our top players for another, i prefer to get rid of our fringe players and get someone of real quality in to put pressure on our first team members.
Its so counter productive to get rid of anyone that features in the lineup, when we need better quality to put pressure on the first eleven.
May 1, 2018 at 9:22 pm #1630931Bingo, in the past two years, Wijnaldum was used more than him and whilst we’re flying at the moment, we haven’t got absolute top midfielders to choose from. Lallana and Henderson have been injured for long periods so in reality it’s a bullshit argument that Can has had so much pitch time.
I think Can will leave. He’ll go elsewhere unless maybe we win the CL and then he’ll demand a huge wage. Does he deserve a wage like Firmino, Salah etc? Is he at their level or does he work as hard as them…. that’s rhetorical…
As mentioned before, I’d like us to sign him and offload after a year unless he improves considerably. For once, I have little doubt that we will get top players this summer. The CL performance have taken care of that but particularly if we get to the final or maybe even win it!
May 1, 2018 at 9:23 pm #1630933Ginger: I’m going to forgive you.
May 1, 2018 at 9:25 pm #1630935… but when I say he’s average, I don’t mean he’s championship material, it’s just that we can do a lot better. He’s over-estimated as a player in my opinion.
May 1, 2018 at 9:47 pm #1630945Let’s just say I trust Klopps judgment on a player over yours.
Klopps has plenty of opportunity to sell this “average footballer” but hasn’t.
He’s had plenty of opportunity to drop this “average footballer” but doesn’t, he invariably plays him.
Not only that but Klopp has offered this “average footballer” a new contract. What does Klopp know?!
May 2, 2018 at 10:29 am #1631087I would honestly be surprised if Can left. I don’t see where it’s better to play football than with LFC next season. Ynwa
May 2, 2018 at 10:39 am #1631094Well, if you trust Klopps opinion , where is the big new contract offer? It’s not coming from Klopp. There’s nothing on the table and he’s on the verge of announcing his move to Juve (according to the Italians).
We need to sign players whoa re above average if we’re to ever win the title.
May 2, 2018 at 11:01 am #1631113Its not bullshit mate, last season Can played 40 games, the same as Wijnaldum, the season before that he played 49 games.
And Mak, there is a contract offer from the club on the table. The club has not given up on him and Emre himself is working hard to be fit for our last game or games of the season.
We need every player available if we are going to win something this season. Even if its just for one game.
May 2, 2018 at 11:04 am #1631115Can has previously rejected offers as far back as last summer.
The problem has been that Can wants a buy out clause.
If Can was simply an “average footballer” as Bofa claims Klopp wouldn’t have been trying to sign him up to a new contract.May 2, 2018 at 11:06 am #1631116Ya, I don’t think anyone is questioning his professionalism on the pitch. Also, what player in his right mind wouldn’t be working hard to be fit for a potential CL final? Ya, having him fully fit and available would be great. If he wants to score the winner in the CL final, I’m ok with that.
May 2, 2018 at 11:13 am #1631120Well, Can’s inconsistency drops him down in many peoples opinions. rightly so too in my own. As for Can not signing a contract because he needs a buy out clause, I’m not sure what that says. The club are not exactly the kind to outright refuse to sell players. FSG bargain fairly strongly alright but Barca got Coutinho and Suarez (TBH we did sell Suarez cheap).
Anyway, it doesn’t matter as the reports in Italy are rather strong now, I’d be inclined to think that they might be correct this time. We’ll have to wait and see I guess.
May 2, 2018 at 11:16 am #1631122Thankfully it’s only really Klopps opinion that matters and Klopp tends to play him every game he’s available for and wants him to sign up to a new contract.
May 2, 2018 at 11:18 am #1631125I guess I’ll be saying the same thing when Can signs for Juve.
May 21, 2018 at 5:42 pm #1639350Oh well its official now, maybe im splitting hairs but could’ve waited till after the CL final to announce it though…
Oh well he’ll do well in Italy (a lot slower, less physical), but I think there will always be a lingering feeling that no matter how well he plays at Juve that he couldn’t really get to grips with being great in the premiership. Anyways, he respected his contract and is entitled to do what he wants which he has done, thank you and wish you all the best just not against us!
Emre Can to move from Liverpool to Juventus on five-year contract
May 21, 2018 at 6:14 pm #1639360I don’t want anyone here who doesn’t want to be here. Obviously it gets complicated when we’re dealing with expensive assets, who we need to make sure we get top value for. This has been somewhat of a distraction but credit to Can for refusing to talk about it all this time. He doesn’t want to be at the club but he hasn’t pissed in our faces about it either.
