I can’t see anybody willing to pay £25m for Can next summer when he’s in the last year of his contract especially when he can be signed on a free in January.
Wishful thinking for sure imo.
March 11, 2017 at 1:48 pm #1448823For free next summer…
March 11, 2017 at 1:53 pm #1448825Bingo Can can sign for a European club on a free in January as per my post @9:47am today.
March 11, 2017 at 3:49 pm #1448883Agreed Nine, having 1 year left on his contract will hurt his valuation. The only possible way we could get £25m is with how transfer fees are going up and up but I still think even £20m will be difficult in this scenario.
March 11, 2017 at 4:23 pm #1448891Mr Mak, I would say £20m is extremely optimistic especially if Can goes back to Germany.
I would be very disappointed if Chelsea were to pay £20m for a player that could be signed for free just 4 months later as I suspect you would probably be too. Time will tell though mate. Cheers 999
March 11, 2017 at 4:30 pm #1448892We may get £20m he is still quite young. Lets see what teams offer in the summer. I’d like us to keep him but if he’s demanding £100k a week let him go. He just has’t done enough to earn that.
March 11, 2017 at 4:43 pm #1448898Lee, seriously mate why would any club pay £20m for a player that they could sign for free 4 months later additionally Can will be able to negotiate the most beneficial package personally for himself if he waits until January and signs for someone on a free in January.
But time will tell.
March 11, 2017 at 4:45 pm #1448899Sell him. Hes not that good anyway
March 11, 2017 at 6:38 pm #1448968Arsenal got £25m for Van Persie in the last year of his contract. West Brom got £10m for Berahinho with just 6 months left.
March 11, 2017 at 8:32 pm #1449017From what I’ve seen from Grujic, in the coming seasons he will be putting serious pressure on Can in the pecking order.
I still think Can’s got something to offer, but not for silly money. He’s not upped his game lately, enough to deserve a big pay rise…
But there’s always some club out there willing to offer silly money, so if he’s had his head turned, then it might be best all round to part ways.March 11, 2017 at 8:57 pm #1449021Lee, very different circumstances though mate United had just lost the title on the last game of the season to City and SAF thought RVP a guaranteed goalscorer would secure winning the title back.
David Gill and the Glazers were against the signing because they thought it was too expensive but gave into Fergie’s wishes because it was to be his final two seasons at United.
Van Persie won United the title.
Anything over £15m for Can if he doesn’t sign a new contract at Liverpool would be a massive result for the club imo.
It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out with Can I still wouldn’t rule out Liverpool offering an improved contract and him signing it but it shouldn’t really have got to where it has.
March 14, 2017 at 8:28 am #1450045“I’ve had calf problems for many years and it has been very difficult for me because I’ve played out of position which means more sprints and always 10 minutes into the game I’ve not been able to feel my feet in a few games.
“I didn’t like to go to the Press and say: ‘I am injured’. I didn’t play well when it was my opportunity to play and it was my mistakes.”
In the absence of injured captain Jordan Henderson, Can has been handed the holding midfield role by Jurgen Klopp and he admits that position suits him better.
“When I play as the No 8 I have to go forward and sprint more and I had a few problems with my calf,” Can added.
“When I play at No 6 you don’t have to sprint too much in that position, you are in the middle and you have to make challenges and don’t have to go too far away.”
Maybe the club are holding off to see how his calf progresses if it is a long term problem may not we worth keeping him.
March 14, 2017 at 8:49 am #1450071Or Can is waiting to see if the club makes some investment in the squad this summer.
March 14, 2017 at 8:09 pm #1450600As I’ve said many times before, I do like Emre Can, his performances against Arsenal and Burnley showed what he’s capable of, but if I found out that we that we could do a swap or part exchange with Leipzig for Naby Keita then I wouldn’t mind.
Maybe that is actually a win win for Liverpool and Leipzig. Liverpool would get the chance to sell Can away from the premiership, Leipzig get a great German young talent, Can gets to return to Germany, and we get a dynamic centre mid player in Keita that is possibly better suited to what we need. That’s not too say Can is a bad player is just that because of the club’s botched transfer strategies we have a lot of players with similar skill sets all fighting for the same position. This is further highlighted by central midfield wannabe Milner being forced play at left back. And if we do sell Can we possibly have a carbon copy of him in Grujic. Hence why I say we need something different in the middle and Naby Keita would be perfect alternative antidote to the similarity affecting our central midfield players.
As I said I really really like Can and I do see a good future for him at the club if he does stay, but I also feel that for the club to address some of the balance issues, one or two fan favorites might have to move on so that we can rebalance the squad. Hence that’s why I see Naby Keita for Can as a good swap.
That wouldn’t be the end of it… after that we would need to move Lucas Levia on and bring in a true defensive midfielder as well.
March 14, 2017 at 10:02 pm #1450678Can is good enough to play well for another top club but he doesn’t fit in here with how we are setup and want to play. It’s really annoying that he only has 12 months left on his contract, who knows what this will do to his value this summer but I think we need to tear this band-aid off and sell him.
We need to find a top quality DM, if that guy from Leipzig is of the quality that we need and we can get him then brilliant, let’s go get him.
March 15, 2017 at 7:52 am #1450738£15M tops in the summer with 12 months left on his contract
March 15, 2017 at 12:38 pm #1450953Interesting ak regarding the ongoing calls injury that Can has. To be honest Can is a big boy if he had ongoing injury then that probably explains why his weight and fitness appeared to be an issue afew times this season. Hopefully that goal he scored against Burnley is the result of the injury getting better. However I wonder if the medical team at Liverpool think that his injury could be long term which maybe why the contract we’ve offered to Can is a reflection of. Just look at how Lucas’ injuries affected him early on in his development…
March 15, 2017 at 1:34 pm #1451000Can will not be the player we need or want him to be. He simply doesn’t have what it takes. I’m with Mr Mak in that FSG have made yet another total bollocks of things. As it stands they will have to pay him stupid money to retain him or let him go for next to nothing. Well done guys, you don’t half suck when it comes to dealing with players and transfers which is why we will always be a Europa League nearly club whilst FSG are in charge.
March 15, 2017 at 3:20 pm #1451068I think Klopp is the key shanksy long term wise, things will get better. I agree there’s been a lot of mistakes made by FSG but also they are still recovering from the Hicks and Gillette (?) saga. The club seemed somewhat rudderless after Rafa left…I think there were to many fires to put out. It’s only now that they seemingly realise the value of longterm strategy, the very same thing Rafa was trying to implement before he got sacked. Having four managers in 6 years hasnt helped the club to develop any kind of strategy. Emre Can was bought to be a Gerrard type replacement but Rodgers messed up the development by playing him out of position. Bad team recruitment by different managers had meant Can has played in a number of positions to help out the team, it’s only really since Klopp has arrived that he’s been playing in centre mid regularly… Again I feel most of Emre Cans and other team issues is related to the bigger picture IMHO.
March 15, 2017 at 3:38 pm #1451081Mwake, have to disagree with u abt rodgers messing up with Can’s development. Great players will play well no matter who the manager is. Can is simply not good enough to play the holding role.
