I think a few on here should take a break from football right now, the pressure is getting to those lads, in other words its crunch time!

What are you talking about? We don’t NEED to rely on others. If Man United and Arsenal win their games in hand, we’ll still be in the top 4. But that’s impossible since they both need to play each other.

I think Liverpool fans have a false sense of entitlement when it comes to success. We had Champions League football once in 7 seasons. Last season we finished 8th with 60 points. We are now 3rd with 66 with 4 games to go.

In truth, we have no excuse not to finish top 4 but we were outsiders for Champions League this season anyway. A win yesterday would’ve been great but we’ve done very well since our slump in January.

Reason why a lot of you are overreacting is because we’ve had 1 loss since February, we’re still 3rd and you’re acting like the season is over. How confident do you think Arsenal and Man United feel?

CM, just had a look at your run in. It is a lot more tightly packed than I’d thought!

Redwing mate, lets see at the end of the season, which one of us is nearer in knowing what we are talking about. 🙂 I will happy concede to you if we make it, but we are now likely looking at 4th and not 3rd and so we may not even make the group stage. There is no entitlement whatsoever. I’m just tired of countless false dawns in the last 25 years.

Yes I agree we have had improvements in points compared to last year. But Leicester reset what can be done (even though it shouldn’t be expected) But, when you score more points against the top six than anyone, its a real shame to then have one of (if not the) worst record of the top six against the bottom half. That’s disappointing and frustrating, especially when we didn’t have Europe and were desperate to get out of the FA cup as soon as possible.

Yes we are 3rd, but I’ll be shocked if we stay 3rd in the end especially after yesterday. But ever hopeful.

One game at a time, the other teams will lose against each other.

We are far from finished and there’s enough quality to get 4th

I agree Bob and have faith in us going forward (mostly); it’s when the other team has the ball that has me worried. We just can’t execute the defensive basics.

If we miss out on champions league, and “big” signings that would come with qualification…we should just stop buying players from Southampton and get them at source – anytime they make a bid, match it!

You know what guys, as many as you can concede I am the eternal optimist, its the law of O´toole.

Often I might get a bit a head of myself with my predictions but you know what, they are not that far off, we are in 3rd position. The only reason why is our attacking force, that have scored the most goals of any side in the league like I tried to convey when the season started.

We are not getting one hundred goals, painstakingly the defense might even concede about 50 goals, if things turn really bitter.

But you know what, we are miles ahead from where we were last season, the team has grown. Coutinho has stepped up, Lallana has stepped up, Can has stepped up. We got a number of players that are equal to the best in the league.

What we lack is depth, that will be dealt with this summer, I can´t say if we will see another false dawn or not but we will see reinforcement brought in. There is no doubt about it. Even the most pessimistic fans think that we will have about 100 million to spend this summer. Those are the ones that think we are going to crash out of the top four in our last four games.

I´m thinking okay, 100 million on top of what we got, that´s not half bad. Its not a title challenge but its something. That would put us into the 3rd spot in terms of investment being made, if we go by the last summer window.

Right now though, there is a lot of pressure on the lads, the most vocal player after our defeat is Can, 23 years old. Alexander Arnold as a impact sub, Grujic as a impact sub, lets not condemn the players. We can rally behind them, even at the away fixtures.

Even the lone cry of watch out for that run from the fans can be the difference right now.

    Redwing you posted this …..
“What are you talking about? We don’t NEED to rely on others. If Man United and Arsenal win their games in hand, we’ll still be in the top 4. But that’s impossible since they both need to play each other.”
So we just forget city do we, they also have 2 games in hand & are only a couple of points behind us so they can even afford a loss & still finish ahead of us if we win all our remaining games.
Bottom line is we are not in control of our own destiny any more so we are relying on others to slip up.

Bingo: problem is mate we are missing the key element to our early attacking form (Mane) as well as a couple of the cogs in the middle that made us click so effectively. That’s the main reason I don’t think we will have enough to get 4th, that & as Mr Mak made the very good observeration that when it’s crunch time & we need to win we always fail.

Number8 it’s not just Mane we are missing. We have some players in there who are young, some without that experience and others who just don’t have that big game mentality (either never will or don’t yet). As I said thou some of this rests on Klopp to find the best system and start those players in those positions, for example Firmino back up top. Klopp also needs to be a bit braver with his subs as he has done sometimes (I just mean change things earlier).

Rob mate I do agree with what your saying and that’s why for me the focus should be more on attack, we have proven we can’t really shut up shop and generally keep things tight so should go back to high intensity football. I have seen less of this from the players recently (unless we are just tired). I think Klopp should drop Lucas for the last few games and put someone more dynamic in or consider dropping Coutinho further back as a play maker (for example if Lallana won’t be back). At times we look far too pedestrian with that trio and whilst I don’t think Lucas has done a bad job by any means, those 3 are just not what we need for the remaining games. So back to basics, press from the front and possession higher up the pitch.

Aussie, the Mancs have got stronger as the season has gone on. They are fortunate that Rashford is bang on form & had Rooney to call back after Ibra got injured. That’s the value of a big squad. Take Couts & Mane out & our goals dry up. We needed more firepower. Origi, Studge & Ings wasn’t enough with injury history etc.

True sanj, we do look pretty toothless without Mane in particular. Someone made the very valid point we should just go for it in games because the way Klopp plays relies more on attacking & we have shown time & time again we are dog shite trying to close games out because we simply cannot defend. This Europa is going to drain us badly next season & we simply won’t get enough in the summer window because we won’t have C/L.
I’m afraid it’s going to be another long couple of years for us.

Was it bad luck Aussie or bad planning? Pre-Jan window we exceeded expectations & were in all competitions & challenging for the title. I believe the quiet window was a calculated risk that will have backfired if we don’t qualify for the Europa/CL. The loss of revenue will exceed the saving made from the quiet window possibly.

Sanj: who knows what players were available in Jan but if we had a chance to buy someone decent then we gambled & lost. This squad was never going to be enough to go the distance of a full season.

another knee jerk reaction, we are still favorites for top 4, we just( I know it’s not a given considering our form) need to win two of our remaining games while Arsenal have to play Stoke and Southampton away in the span of 3 days
