Any thoughts?
Although he has proven to be a merely useful squad player under Mourinho is this an effort to ensure that we get some sort of transfer fee for him in the summer or does Mourinho genuinely see a role for him in future?
If he is on the reported 120k a week, is this justifiable for a squad player and someone who almost definitely won’t be a regular in the starting XI?January 12, 2017 at 11:08 am #1415539Whilst I think Fellaini trys his best, he’s not Utd quality. I hope this is just a ploy to makesure we get some cash for him in the summer. I would rather see him not hold back another player from getting in the team. Hopefully Mourinho has a plan…
January 12, 2017 at 11:45 am #1415565should never have been signed in the first place. No matter what he does he will never be a manchester united player am afraid.
Maybe Jose has done this on purpose after some fans booed him ?
January 12, 2017 at 12:33 pm #1415604We did this a few years back with Berbatov as well, took the option on his contract and then sold him in the summer to Fulham(?). I think with 18 months now left on his contract we can demand a significantly higher fee for him either now or than letting him go on a free in the summer. I think Mourinho see’s a minor role for him but if a good offer came along then he’d take it.
January 12, 2017 at 12:53 pm #1415614I think the reaction to his goal on Tuesday suggests that Mourinho is a fan of Fellaini’s. Either that or he is unhappy that a player has been booed by his own fans and has possibly seen that it has affected him personally.
Like people have said, it’s not Fellaini’s fault (which is why he shouldn’t be booed) but he is not Utd quality. I don’t understand how Mourinho has him ahead of Schneiderlin in the pecking order unless Schneiderlin stated that he wanted more starts and Mourinho knew he could get a decent fee for him.

January 13, 2017 at 8:19 am #1415974if there’s anything we’ve learned this season is we can trust Mourinho, the dude just sold Morgan for 24m, anything he does now until the end of season is okay with me, he should have our complete faith and trust, after the season ends we’ll se where we are (hopefully top3) and then judge him. aye?
January 13, 2017 at 8:49 am #1415992Mourinho must have a plan, that’s all I can hope. I think he’s my least favourite player of all time. I hope and prey killyboye has it right and we’ve just triggered the one year extension option, which would be the sensible business option.
January 13, 2017 at 8:58 am #1416000I think triggering the extension is a pure business decision. Why risk him walking for free? We paid a lot of money for Fellaini and a lot of football clubs would love to have him so we must strengthen our position for negotiation. Even at his age, Fellaini’s style means he can play far into his 30’s.
One thing for sure is he is definitely not in Mourinho’s plans as a key player in his system. Mourinho will be focussed on shipping Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin (already done) to bring in a top class replacement for Carrick in the mould of Veratti.
Nothing to see here really.
January 13, 2017 at 9:43 am #1416031If the are concerned about him walking on a free they should have sold him last summer. What should be of paramount importance to the club is QUALITY and on that criteria Fellaini should be out the door. Its not as if he’s a young player who may improve.
I can see this extention turning into another extention and another that means he is here for another 2-3 years, especially since our high wages make it hard to find buyers for our deadwood.
The problem is this club policy of paying high wages to mediocre players and always extending their contracts. The result is we end up accumulating deadwood because we can’t sell them. Then the squad is full of deadwood and we cannot bring in new players because they are blocking the way and eating up the payroll. Its needs a LvG type clear out then we have the problem of brining in too many new players all at once.
In my view this all comes about because football has become a business run by bean counters who see players only in terms of assets, depreciation, resale value and cost of replacement.
January 14, 2017 at 10:37 am #1416476If they are worried about Fellaini leaving for free, perhaps we could have a whip round and buy him for ourselves? I’d be happy to sell my car, my wife, my wife’s car and take a change bucket round Old Trafford.
Not sure what we’d do with him though? I could do with a new brush to clean the pool but I’m not sure he’d reach the bottom at the deep end. All suggestions welcome.
