Firminho is beginning to show what he is capable of.You can see he is getting up to match fitness and he has every thing in his locker to be an outstanding player for Liverpool. The one thing that stands out for me is that when he sees an opportunity to get on the ball he has a terrific change of pace. When Coutinho slipped the ball behind the defender Firminho put on the afterburners and sized up the opportunity instantly. Utilised properly this boy has the attributes to break teams down when we are at home, cant wait to see him completely fit, happy and integrated. Jurgen Klopp has admitted that at one stage Firminho was the best player in the Bundesliga, happy days!

Good points Spodge – thing I liked about him yesterday was he was showing a bit more strength and determination to get a foot in and get the ball back – as previously under Rodgers he was jogging around when not passed to – although I think the previous managers tactics baffled him.

Linking well with Coutihno and that means positive sins of a team player.

Inside left seeminly suits him. My dad was impressed!

Klopp is all about getting the ball into the space at the right time so that no defender is there. Firmino has the intelligence, the movement and the timing to get there at the right time and then when he gets there he knows exactly what to do with it in relation to everyone else. I doubt Benteke has this ability at present. Studge probably has too – and even Ings.
The potential combo of Firmino, Sturridge, Benteke (and Ings when he’s fit next year) is starting to excite. That’s without mentioning Lallana and Coutinho – and then the potential of Origi too when Klopp starts to mould him.

Unbelievable the improvement in him under Klopp, he has excellent game intelligence & he is showing signs of linking with Coutinho & others. Will be a very valuable player for us in the next few seasons.

I have to confess that I’d been wondering why we spent that much money on him but now I know, I thought he was excellent against Citeh and, as others have pointed out, maybe BR’s tactics baffled him but Klopp’s certainly don’t seem to, his link up play with Coutinho was superb and if they both stay injury free we’ve a good chance of a very positive finish to the season. Firminho was excellent on sat but he’s been showing this kind of form the last few weeks. He was very good at Chelsea and away to Rubin. Also mom v Bournemouth

Scouser – Not sure that BR’s tactics baffled him, I think it was more like BR never had a fit Firmino.

I think everyone is being a little unfair to Brendan Rodgers regarding Firmino. He is a young lad who didn’t speak the language and was new to the Premiership and who got injured against Carlisle, so no, Rodgers didn’t get the best out of him, but there were reasons for that. I think another reason Firmino is now looking so good is that he has a Coutinho alongside him who is on fire, as opposed to the Coutinho of August and September, who was awful.
Anyway just hope Bobby and Phil keep it up!

HightownHope – To right, it is like everyone wants to pin every little thing that went wrong at BR’s door. People seem to forget 2013/14 where it was his tactics that got the best out of SASAS and if his tactics didn’t baffle some one as thick as Sterling then they shouldn’t baffle anyone.

I think Brendan had many good points, to get us to 2nd was a huge achievement, but overconfidence was his undoing as Gerrard pointed out before the Chelsea game. He expected Liverpool to blow them away as they had done Arsenal. Firmino is reported to have said the club needed to make the managerial change, Sterling reportedly moved because of him (& City’s wages), Moreno says that he felt Rodgers never rated him, Lambert has hinted all may not have been fair with him, Andy Carroll certainly loved him, Shelvey & Kelly might still have had futures at the club. The point is, if you are having success on the pitch, sour grapes from disgruntled players are sour grapes. If you arent though, those grapes might not be so sour. Cheers 🙂

To be honest Firmino was fit for the start of the season and wasn’t used that much by Rodgers. Was even used wide right as part of a 5 man midfield where he frequently found himself back at rightback.
If anyone has seen Firmino play in Germany it’s clear he’s best played through the middle, in the opposition half especially in the final 3rd.
Rodgers seemed not to know what to do with him.

Paxman & Sanj1For the many memories that BR gave us over the course of the 2013/14 season, there are also many forgettable ones over his tenure as well. Yes, 7th to 2nd was a massive achievement but 2nd to 6th was disappointing.
