I think generally we are doing well though. If you simply look at the quality of our players we shouldn’t be anywhere near top 4.
December 7, 2016 at 10:14 am #1355608It seems that a couple of months ago, someone put the long lost Bob Paisley “This is Your Life” episode up on YouTube. Obviously someone had it on an old VHS tape – hence the customary intermittent interference lines across the screen.
Enjoy.
December 7, 2016 at 10:17 am #1355617“I thought you were the QPR Centre Forward”. Classic Bob!
December 8, 2016 at 2:42 pm #1357963I´m up for Suarez coming back in his latter days as a keeper.
December 15, 2016 at 1:04 pm #1372153Good on yer Dirk. How can anyone not like this fella? He still looks about 19 as well!
December 18, 2016 at 3:28 pm #1377976Just watched Soton go 3-1 at Bournemouth and awaited the BIG comeback from The Cherries but it never happened and won’t ever happen again will it? Aren’t we so generous!
December 18, 2016 at 8:49 pm #1378597Happy Christmas one and all 🙂
January 9, 2017 at 7:03 pm #1412485Never have I been so disappointed with Liverpool or Dortmund winning anything before, its a moment of magic though.
January 9, 2017 at 7:19 pm #1412494I was there that night and it ranks right up there as one of the most amazing Anfield nights ever, from the silence perfectly observed as one would expect, to the joint singing of YNWA, to finally the most epic game of football I’ve witnessed since Istanbul.
A brilliant, brilliant night!
January 26, 2017 at 12:10 pm #1423195I got to say to all of those that are doubting the team, the direction the team is taking and Klopp that all of our problems this month had been identified. Long before the month even started. We all knew that January would be difficult without our best player this season, add to that injuries to Coutinho, Matip and Clyne its not surprising to see the slump we are in.
January 26, 2017 at 8:10 pm #1423478A statistic over the decline of pace for our beloved Daniel Sturridge.
2013/14: 32.4km/h
2014/15: 30.5km/h
2015/16: 29.5km/h
2016/17: 28.5km/hRemarkably, Sturridge has been the slowest player in Liverpool’s starting lineup in three of his five Premier League starts this season, despite the likes of Ragnar Klavan, Lucas Leiva and James Milner featuring alongside him.
Statistics show Daniel Sturridge’s pace has decreased every season at Liverpool
February 3, 2017 at 1:06 pm #1428807February 3, 2017 at 1:56 pm #1428843On the UEFA website, the article is written in a way that implies that the payments are only just being made – which makes sense as it coincides with the news about the level of payments. So, the interesting question is whether LFC receives their sum at a 1.45 (Euro/Pound) x-rate as in June when tournament started or at the current 1.25 level. That’s a difference of £375k – which would pay the Magician’s wages for 2.5 weeks!
February 8, 2017 at 4:09 am #1431803Sturridge has lost 4 KM/h?! Woah that’s a lot.
And this :
“Remarkably, Sturridge has been the slowest player in Liverpool’s starting lineup in three of his five Premier League starts this season, despite the likes of Ragnar Klavan, Lucas Leiva and James Milner featuring alongside him.”
It’s worse than I’d feared for him.
February 8, 2017 at 5:15 pm #1432131Things are never so “remarkable” when you analyse them and put them in some perspective. The first bit of perspective is that these are statistics for top speed and sports scientists will tell you that athletes require about 30m to reach top speed. Every time that Sturridge seems to feature this season (and last to an extent) he is playing against lower league opposition in a cup game or introduced on 65 minutes in a PL where we’re trailing and need a goal. The common denominator when Sturridge is on the pitch is that we are having 70+% of the ball and camped against 2 banks of 5 + 4 or 5; so there is hardly ever 30m of space to attain a top speed. This also explains why the back 4 are showing greater pace, because we are getting hit on the break and the defenders are having to turn and sprint back distances in excess of 30m.
OK, there may be evidence that his top speed has been reduced and at the age of 27 and his injury record, I’d be surprised if he hadn’t slowed a touch; but don’t go believing that he is inherently slower than the likes of Klavan.
Never believe a “statistic” until you have subjected it to proper scrutiny.
February 8, 2017 at 9:19 pm #1432198Good post Herring.
Although I have noticed Sturridge not making runs that he could potentially have been making. He looks for the ball in to feet too much.February 10, 2017 at 1:27 pm #1432960I would like to see the same stats about Mane. He does not need much space to get behind his marker.
February 16, 2017 at 8:35 am #1436054February 17, 2017 at 10:21 pm #1436999Bingo Sturridge again, doesn’t matter if if he’s slower than Klavan, he’ll always be a better player.
February 18, 2017 at 2:43 pm #1437148Mate, I have not said a word about Sturridge since my rant about him three weeks ago and I would hate to argue with you about his merits but right now it is debatable who is the better player, Ragnar Klavan or Daniel Sturridge? Sturridge though will always have been the better player of the two, as in a past tense! Sturridge got time to reinvent himself but I doubt it will be at Liverpool. He got quality written all over him but needs a new challenge.
