Our finishing against Norwich was excellent, that’s one of the few positives this season, we haven’t scored six for awhile, and I think we can do it again. Sissoko is looking abit better, I agree with you mav, about thauvin, been very disappointed with him, expected more with that price tag.October 26, 2015 at 7:03 pm #682609
not really sure what to say vodka, you can’t really put your finger on what the problem is. 1 game we’re banging in 6, next game we can’t hit a barn door, 1 game you hold the champions to a draw (tough we should’ve won that) next game you look like headless chickens and get destroyed.
You can’t say we can’t score because the match against Norwich, outhampton and Chelsea show we can, but you can’t also say we can’t defend, because the match against Man U shows we can. It’s a case of 2 personalities and we just don’t know what team it is will turn up on game day.
Like I said in my previous post about Sunderland, we created so much attacking but couldn’t hit the barn door, and in all fairness we defended well, especially well considering a man down, yet let in 3.
And I think you’re criticicsm of janmaat is wrong . Yes both goals came form ‘his’ side, but did you see where the crosses came from. They we’re from outside the box, Janmaat did his job, he kept his man out of the danger area and resigned to long crosses only, it’s just the central defenders and Dummett who didn’t do their jobs by dealing with it and marking the players in the box or coming from behind. I really don’t know what else you expect from janmaatOctober 27, 2015 at 4:37 am #682753
Well said mav, I expect Janmaat to cut out crosses, close down quicker, and show more effort. Janmaat is good going forward, he just needs to remember that he is the right back, which he seems to forget sometimes. It’s all these little problems that add up, Janmaat, collo, central midfield, do you agree that we struggle in those areas?October 27, 2015 at 7:50 am #682795
I expect Collo to mark his players, be positionally aware, to head the ball, to close down and to stop forwards shooting, so errrrOctober 27, 2015 at 2:29 pm #683389
Exactly, and I expect the central midfielders not to get yellow cards so early in a game and to win more headers from long balls. I expect sissoko to be more consistent. I expect dummett to have better ball control. Everyone in the team needs to improve on something, therefore you can’t keep blaming collo for every goal conceded. It’s a team effort, whether we conceding or even scoring, the team is responsibleOctober 27, 2015 at 6:25 pm #683623
Remind me, who conceded the penalty that gave Sunderland the advantage and put us in a vulnerable position. Who was it who gave away the penalty because he didn’t track HIS player that ran across him? Who was it gave away the penalty because he was caught out and made a rash decision. Who was it who gave away the penalty, knowing that he was in the penalty area and that any rash challenge would be a disaster? NOT Sissoko, NOT Janmaat, NOT Dummett, but our so called ‘experienced captain’.October 27, 2015 at 6:44 pm #683641
Remind me how our midfield can allow Sunderland to counter attack and allow them to have the opportunity of being one on one at the back. Midfield should of cut out that threat way before any threw ball was done.October 27, 2015 at 8:24 pm #683701
The team is just a concept. What you have in a team is a collection of individuals. Some, like Krul, are the backbone of the team. Others are its weakest link. Tiote, Collo, Saylor are examples of the latter.October 27, 2015 at 8:32 pm #683713
err vodka, our midfield held them to 8 shots (1 being the pen Collo gave away), the reason they were able to counter was because we were a man down, hmm I wonder why that was, and because we were pressing to try and score and pull a goal back, hmm I wonder why that was.
You really don’t see the true picture because of your love for Collo, the man you wanted to build your 352 around. Blinded doesn’t come closeOctober 27, 2015 at 8:41 pm #683719
Our midfield wasn’t really the issue, they can be expected to sometimes let one or two players get through, but at that stage it should still be 3-4 of our dedicated ndera at the back to stop them plus the goalie. If we sit too deep and stop every single player dribbling or passing to within 30m of goal, then we will never create enough chances of our own. That being said, we are CLEARLY at our most dangerous when on the counter. Sissoko is so deceptively quick it boggles belief. Just need to make sure we keep someone up to to provide him support. Only bad thing is he can’t shoot to save himself! Where have all the players gone who get the top corner from 25m out?October 27, 2015 at 9:40 pm #683779
Stoke – Bournemouth – Leicester – Palace
Massive massive MASSIVE month! Collo is OK to play, not sure if that is a good thing or not…expected number of points? Surely we have to get at least 6 points from those games, maybe even 7. Less then 5 points and we are DOWN!
Im calling it now, November is the month of MITRO!October 27, 2015 at 9:55 pm #683788
Further to this, if we can’t beat Stoke who just lost to Watford at home, we should just give up now. They have to play midweek in the cup, against Chelsea I think, so should low on confidence and tired. Only downside is Colback it out so likely Anita will play. This leaves us very short against a team who often used long balls and crosses.October 28, 2015 at 1:05 am #683914
well Stoke beat Chelski – so their tails will be up. gulpOctober 28, 2015 at 10:30 am #684307
Mav, can’t you that there is a problem when Janmaat goes forward, he leaves a massive gap in the defence, which results in mbemba moving more to the right hand side, which results in collo being isolated in the centre of defence. Can’t you see that the team in general does not close down the opposition fast enough, we give them to much time to pick out a pass, rather than forcing them to pass which results in the opposition losing the ballOctober 28, 2015 at 1:43 pm #684649
NoOctober 28, 2015 at 2:13 pm #684691
Blind as a batOctober 28, 2015 at 8:13 pm #685018
as blind as Collo not noticing players running across him that need markingOctober 30, 2015 at 9:27 am #686893
I would still like them to try a 352 formation. It covers alot of problems we have, cover for Janmaat, extra center back, extra midfielder, would work wonders maviiNovember 13, 2015 at 12:50 pm #704563
Tiote, Colback and Anota are not good enough for the first team, one of them would be decent to have as a squad player. Need to buy a strong, athletic midfielder to play next to Wijnauldrum. Give Thauvin more time to adapt, he can play left wing. There’s no reason why we can’t eventually sell Sissoko and replace him with a better player for the right wing. Could web have Aaron’s left with Thauvin right and use the money to buy another centre midfielder.November 13, 2015 at 1:23 pm #704632
timnufc would love Aaron to have a run in the team and to stay injury free. We lack pace out wide and Aaron would provide it.
As for Thauvin, he played well when he came on against Bournemouth and actually put a shift in. In his previous games he has looked disinterested and when he came on against the Mackems, I could have dragged him off myself.
