So here we are then. The season is not yet over for us and we have a squeak of a chance to extend it some more.

Match day morning and I feel remarkably relaxed. I will follow the game with intensity this afternoon, keeping a weather eye on those around us and get the Bar B Que out for this evening, imbibing on a sherbet or two. Tomorrow I will either be reviewing the season 2016 / 2017 or I will be reviewing the Championship table and wondering about the Art of the Possible and still wishing & hoping. Oh, and I’ll give the cars a wash!

A couple of other things football wise that occupy my thoughts at present are: 1 – what will happen with TT and the Championship pages going forward? At the moment only the Newcastle page and ours has any correspondents and they are on the way up and away. The handful of us here will lose sight of each other which will be a real shame; I enjoy your company. 2 – Who we should keep and who we should ditch and who, like Jansson apparently, might be looking for pastures new. We need to build on the foundations of this season starting with holding on to Garry Monk.

Not yet the boring bit between seasons I say. Long may it continue.

LUFC to prevail today. Can’t worry about what the others do. We will be where we will be.

    Keep the Faith. WAL

Absolutely gutted Phoenix. Felt sick for the rest of Saturday and then in a foul mood yesterday. I pity my poor wife! MOT

I thought we must all be feeling exactly the same, gutted and down, as no-one had made any comments on here.

I can’t believe the team have played so poorly of late. The goals average for April is even lower than last August – relegation standard, not promotion standard!

I really didn’t think we would be the team to drop out – I thought it would probably be Sheff Weds battling it out with Fulham, but they have both given it their all and we have just given up!

    Totally p’d off!

I’m going to the Norwich match – I think it’s a sell-out – but how deflating to be at the last home game of the season and not now in the play-offs. It will be a very quiet ER if we lose to Norwich. A thoroughly disappointing end to the season.

I was unable to listen to the radio commentary or check any updates on Saturday. When I did get all the final scores for the day, I felt a sick-grey-empty feeling overwhelm me, even though we were celebrating a joyous family function.

I am really struggling to write this. What can I say, except that we’ve become so accustomed to disappointment and pain through all the years? Kicked in the teeth yet again. Deep down, we know that we will never abandon our beloved team no matter how bitter we feel.

I was surrounded by Premier league fanatics, caught up in the excitement of the FA Cup over the weekend, here, in South Africa. Nobody,it would seem, remembers or gives a second thought to Leeds United anymore. Nobody, from the land that gave us Gerald Francis, Albert Johannsen, Phil Masinga and Lucas Radebe. It’s the Premier League and the top two from La Liga that is all the rave here.

There is that faintest glimmer of hope that flickers with fragility. Will the light finally go out on Saturday? We’d all like to believe not.

Hells Bells! It has taken a deal of time to recover from the disappointment of this result as the gathering gloom descends on the season for me. I was deluded into thinking that the season was good enough as it was thus far without the cherry on it too. I was sadly mistaken. This damn well hurts! I share the pain of my fellow Leeds supporters and fans. Also, let us not forget the other halves, be they male or female, who have to suffer the consequences of each bad result. I will have to make good in some way, perhaps with a gift or treat or something.

In the cold light of day this result against Burton the latest in a parade of results in games where we should have done better this season. We have stuttered along for a couple of months now when we should have been coming nicely to the boil. The train is now leaving the station, the doors all but shut and we are chasing it and hoping………………

You have to admire the run that Fulham have put together; I am sure they were flirting with the relegation zone at the turn of the year before this new manager came in. The others too are doing just enough and more. How we might fare in this company is debatable but I fear we might struggle. Anyway the point is a hypothetical long shot.

As ever I keep the faith but perhaps now I save it up for next season.

“The train is now leaving the station, the doors all but shut and we are chasing it and hoping………………”

That is an evocative image, Phoenix. It sums up the situation most succinctly! Thank you for this. We have seen miracles and we have witnessed narrow escapes in our time.

So long as that fragile flame continues to flicker,
So long shall we continue to dream, to hope, to wait.
