Being a club legend doesn’t entitle you to say what you want and put a negative spin on everything to do with his former club – and Scholes is well known for being negative. Scholes needs to wind his neck in big style. The majority of his punditry is directed towards Manchester United. Perhaps he believes that his position as a former player gave him the right to a job at the club after he retired from playing. A further issue is that Scholes had many poor periods as a player for United and England. Jose squashed scholes criticism whilst praising him at the same time. Well done Jose

I think you should replace great by childish in your topic. Scholes was offering his opinion on what was a piss poor performance and was fully justified imo. I get the impression that Scholes, Neville and the rest are holding back there true opinions of a club that is being shabily run just for profit. It’s about time Jose grew up and concentrated on getting his team to perform on a regular basis, he should be above that kind of response.

I don’t mind scholes critising but if he was a little consistent with it i’d take him serious. He hardly says anything about his mates. Guys like valencia young carrick rooney Jones and smalling hardly got critised by him when it was clear to most fans that they were not good enough. Pogba is the easy target for everyone, it’s not his job to drive the team forward every single game there are others in the side who can step up too. He put rashford through 1 on 1 against Leicester and burnley which he missed, every game he is putting players through but we keep missing chances. Says quite a lot for a quiet person

Yeah I agree Scholes’ comments are counter productive and Mourinho was right to call him out. He’s a passionate fan like the rest of us but his negative comments don’t help at all, it tips the fans opinion. LVG said the same about him, he’s had nothing good to say really since he retired. It’s alright saying it down the pub with your mates but a lot of people believe what he says and take his opinion and he’s not always right.
The money thing was a bit weird though, I don’t think money or jealousy have anything to do with it.

I’m sort of with TheMartialArt/EnglishBob here. I’ve only just picked up BT Sport recently for the Ashes so hadn’t seen Scholes on telly much before but I don’t think he comes across well at all and he seems to take quite a bit of pleasure from putting the boot in with his straight talking humble Middleton ways. The United media team can’t believe what they’re seeing either… for someone who went out of his way to avoid doing any contractual publicity work while at the club he’s taken quite a shine to well paid media gigs since hanging up his boots. I thought Keane had it right when he called him out for just being lazy not shy but who knows, maybe there is something in Mourinho’s money talk?

As for Gary Neville…I’m surprised the Bury ball bag has the brass neck to talk about football publicly ever again after his embarrassing shit show in Valencia.

@ yorkshireman200 – Class of 92 talk too much in this new age of mass punditry. I don’t remember many recent Utd players doing too well in management, Steve Bruce and mark Hughes have had decent careers but certainly not any this the toxic class of 92 mob. Utd fans know only too well this is exactly what Scholes, Neville and co did to LVG and to Moyes. This is the same class of 92 stunt we have seen before from them. Jose is right actually. Scholes was a phenomenal player, maybe my favourite of all time, but he’s an awful pundit. He was lauded as a player throughout his career for being the down to earth lad who played, scored, then went home. And then he became rent-a-gob…. The sooner he drops the punditry the better for me.

PS: Mourinho won Champions League as a manager at Scholes age.

Scholes is a pundit. Being a pundit does entitle him to say what he wants, that’s his job, what he is paid to do. Seems some folk only have issue with Scholes if his view is “negative” and, as we know from TT posts, they think negative views should not be expressed.

If JM doesn’t like what Scholes or any pundit says, he should just ignore it. Same applies to posters.

PS – Didn’t Keane (or somebody) say Scholes wasn’t shy or lazy, he just didn’t like doing interviews if he wasn’t paid for them.

I have no problem with Scholes calling out players for a poor performance so long as they praise them when they do well. Scholes was right to single out Pogba against Southampton as he was poor and we drew 0-0 at home against a team who haven’t kept an away clean sheet in donkeys. He’s the star player so he bares the brunt of the criticism. Even the fans at OT booed and verbally abused Jose as he walked off the pitch.

Against Everton Pogba was fantastic. Maybe it was his way of sticking two fingers up at Scholes but if that is the case why did it take that to be said to get a reaction? Surely Jose should be motivating him better. I’m sure if that match was on BT Scholes would have praised Pogba.

Jose is pathetic though. Why now does he feel the need to defend his players. Is it because it’s one of his signings?

Is it okay for him to slag off his players in public but not club legends? Double standards.

And claiming that Scholes is jealous of Pogba’s money is pathetic. Scholes is well known for not having an agent and bleeding the club dry. If he wanted to he could have. Pogba and Jose though have the worst agent going who Fergie refused to have any dealings with so Jose needs to concentrate on the team rather than shooting his mouth off in such a manner.

It was Keane Macguffin, fairly scathing he was too. Sorry for linking to the M**l but it was the first place I found the quotes.

TMA, who the fuck are you to accuse anybody of talking too much, you’re on here daily spouting a load of shite! What has Scholes comments got to do with any ex players management capabilities? Do you want to compare Scholes playing career with Jose? Of course not because there is no comparison. As pundits, they are all paid to offer their opinion and given the shambles that the club has created over the last 5 years I would say the club have got away pretty lightly!

@yorkshireman200 – Scholes has truly crossed a line with his constant critics! About time a manager came out and gave it to a member of the class of 92. Easy for them to sit and give out about the team week in week out. Management looks a little harder without a freeze screen TV. Ask Gary Neville. NO I don’t want to compare Scholes playing career with Jose? But I know Mourinho have won more things than scholes … Getting tired of former players negative basket mouths. Please y’all, stop the nonsense armchair managers! Let Scholes and Co. leave their comfort zone and manage a football team instead of pontificating how it should be done.

this is exactly what Scholes, Neville and co did to LVG and to Moyes.
@theMartialArt – And were they right or wrong in their criticisms?

“If Paul [Scholes] decides to be a manager one day, I wish that he can be 25% as successful as myself.”
@jose – And if you were 10% as successful as a player as Scholes then maybe I’d have more respect for you. I’m always sceptical about managers who’ve never been successful players, LvG was another one.

Mourinho won Champions League as a manager at Scholes age.
@theMartialArt – Ànd when Scholes won his first PL champions medal Mourinho was working as a translator !!

@yorkshireman200 – Why the name calling, am sure you are not as stupid as you sound. All these every expanding number of pundits do is sit in a studio and criticise. They all try to make headlines with over the top statements. When any of them actually try to manage, like Gary Neville, they fail spectacularly.

@manthistle was scholes as critical when rooney stank out OT for the last 5 years? Or when Michael carrick turned invisible for God knows how many years. Like I said criticsm is good but when you pick and choose who you critised then you can’t be taken seriously. Oh as for soton game, mata lingard rashford miki and lukaku were our attackers and they failed to create a more than a single chance against one of the worse defence in the league. That’s estimated over 200 million pounds worth of talent. But no it must be pogba’s fault. Paul Scholes acting as if he carried man utd all the time, beckham giggs and keane were more influencial than him when they played together. Ronaldo carried us between 06-09 and scholes was lucky to have such a player who won so many games on his own playing alongside him. People need to get real you talk as if scholes was unbelievable in every single game. I remember him disappearing in a lot of the games at anfield, yaya and city made him look silly at times, no where to be seen against jose’s chelsea. Easy to be critical when your expectation is for someone to perform at the higher level every single game

@macguffin – Mourinho has got a point. Scholes has never managed and much like Neville who crashed and burned at Valencia, I think Scholes needs to try his hand before doling out fierce criticism
