I know we need to get this season done with first and qualify for the CL but reading again about Keita this morning really gets me inquisitive brain cells in overdrive.
Don’t think Klopp will tinker with the front line but you know my feelings on a world class number 9.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we never went for Van Dijk and got another (cheaper) centre back that could do a job. We just need a strong, verbal CB back there to keep that back line glued together.
Keeper – all over the place this situation. Never known a Premiership starting keeper not play in the CL too. I’d be a nervous wreck with both Migs and Karius if we got to the quarters and beyond so will Jurgen say balls to it and get another fella between the sticks? Would not be surprised if he did.
Centre mid. This peaks my curiosity. Obviously Keita straight in and Phil gone. Think we may plump for someone like Goretzke (young and massive potential) to replace the ominously departing German brother of Jackie. Two box to boxes in those two protected by Wij. That leaves Grujic (still waiting for the day to see what this fella can do because I think he has all the tools to be huge), Lallana, Wij (my choice as a screen instead of Hendo), Hendo himself, Milner (think he’ll go) and who else, erm, that’s it I think.
That’s my two penneth; curious about yours.November 8, 2017 at 4:26 pm #1555421
Also don’t remember a Prem keeper not starting the CL, but it is no different to what Barca did. It may not be anything to do with just giving them game time. I think he reckons Karius is the future but at the moment he is not quite ready for the physicality of the Prem, but in the CL which is far less physical, and requires a keeper comfortable with the ball at his feet, he feels Karius is the best keeper for that competition.November 8, 2017 at 5:14 pm #1555441
Thats a strong team Rob.
Agree with the no 9, but would also add a dominant holding mid – would cover the defence and provide a screen for our attacking players.
We won’t be far off from the best team since 2008/2009.
Heres hoping!November 8, 2017 at 6:42 pm #1555469
A very solid team indeed.
However, I would prefer to have a proper defensive midfielder screening the defense instead of plugging square pegs in round holes again.November 8, 2017 at 7:23 pm #1555490
Same here geller, but couldn’t think of a holding mid on the market.November 8, 2017 at 9:12 pm #1555532
And a specialist striker RobNovember 8, 2017 at 9:22 pm #1555533
What we look like next season will depend on where we finish this season. I know a lot don’t agree but I still can’t see who we will oust from the current top 4. If that’s the case didn’t VVD say he wanted a C/L team? Would someone like Goretzke come to us? I doubt it very much.
We need a top vocal dominating CB before anything, with a top striker & holding mid not far behind. Robbo is obviously not a Klopp signing because whilst Moreno hasn’t been as bad this season you see how bad he is when we play the better teams that expose him. I’d be surprised if Moreno is 1st choice.
I’m not all over other competitions like some are on here so I’m not sure who we could get but to be competitive I think we will need an upgrade in a few areas.
Like you say Rob can’t see Klopp changing up top much but he did use 2 players in the sort of screening role last game so maybe he will look there. CB is obviously our 1st improvement & I have no doubt Klopp will be upgrading there, who with is the big question.November 8, 2017 at 9:23 pm #1555534
Forgot LB in that needed column.November 8, 2017 at 9:33 pm #1555535
A lot of that team should really have been the one lining up *this* season. I’d wager it’d be at least 7 points better off than we are now and comfortably in 2nd place, well within in touching distance of City whilst getting better and better.November 8, 2017 at 10:39 pm #1555546
It all depends on CL. Keeping Mane is going to be a struggleNovember 9, 2017 at 3:44 am #1555556
Rob a bit early for this thread its only november 😃
Too early i think to identify which players we will get because a lot can happen until august nxt year. A lot of young unknown players can emerge and become rising stars this season maybe in the bundesliga , polish league, portugese lge etc.
Having said that, I think we will get a keeper, at least one new CB, one holding midfielder and one striker. Keita replaces coutinho. Maybe one midf to replace Can.
We got 2 young world cup winners in solanke and brewster. If we get another striker wouldnt that hamper their development?November 9, 2017 at 2:12 pm #1555819
Reds, I know it’s early but my curiosity got the better of me. I hope that third para of yours comes true, I do.November 9, 2017 at 2:37 pm #1555828
I’m not sure if Kieta does replace Coutinho.
With Leipzig Kieta plays as one of the 2 in a 4-2-3-1. Don’t think I could see Coutinho playing there. More similar to Can as in a box to box midfielder but more offensive than him.
We could always drop Firmino back one spot and play him as an attacking midfielder instead of Coutinho behind a new striker.
Apparently it’s true that we are looking at bringing in a centreback in Jan, possibly VVD but also looking at others also too. Whether that actually materialises or not is another thing but they’d be mad not too.November 9, 2017 at 2:43 pm #1555834
This is interesting.
I know we’ve shown interest in him previously….November 9, 2017 at 3:16 pm #1555870
Ginger Im thinking surely we are looking to get vvd in january.? But it depends on soton too. If they play hardball again.November 9, 2017 at 4:59 pm #1555911
That’s what I’m saying Reds, perhaps I could have phrased it better.
We want VVD for Jan but are also looking at other centrebacks too.November 9, 2017 at 5:45 pm #1555928
One important overlooked job this season will be contract extensions. We have to look to give Mane and Firminio extensions. Also, I think Milners 3 year contract is up this season (can anyone tell me if I’m wrong on that?) if so we should look to renegotiate as he was on 150k when he signed apparently.November 9, 2017 at 7:03 pm #1555945
mwake, I believe Milner has two years left on his contract.November 11, 2017 at 12:43 pm #1556394
Rough, if we don’t qualify for top 4 this season or win some silverware.
