Strong rumours in today’s press re Costa heading off to China in the summer. If he goes it will be a massive loss. We will HAVE to choose very wisely in terms of a replacement. Any obvious options? Do we go for a similar type striker such as Lukaku or someone completely different…such as Aubameyang? Real Madrids Morata is another option. Those three aside I can’t think of anyone else who is young enough, good enough or available enough. Thoughts.
February 3, 2017 at 2:23 pm #1428878Report on this website is now saying that a deal is done and dusted for the Summer where we will pocket 70m for Costa. Sounds as though he wanted away in January and Conte said no, so it seems that an agreement has been reached and you assume that part of that is that Costa helps us win the league
Disappointed if that is true but on the other hand we clearly know well in advance exactly what we have to do in the Summer and can start planning and possibly speaking to players in advance. KTBFFH
February 3, 2017 at 2:38 pm #142888770 million is cheap considering perennial underachiever Oscar went for 60… I hope he keeps his focus and then meh. Whatever, professionally he’ll regret it, good riddance if that is the case.
February 3, 2017 at 2:46 pm #1428904Well, Dembele is supposed to be a target. 40 million seems excessive for a striker plying his trade in a league that is the equivalent of league two and who signed him for 500K. Rather give one of our youngsters a go.
February 3, 2017 at 2:47 pm #1428905Morata, Icardi or Belotti
February 3, 2017 at 3:04 pm #1428922Andrea Belotti please and thank you.
February 3, 2017 at 3:14 pm #1428927I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case and a deal has been done and it dovetails with what was said by the Chinese at the time.
£70m v the 60m Euros we got for Oscar doesn’t look that substantial but £70m if it is £70m is probably a lot more than we would get if we were selling Costa to a European club.
If it is already a done deal let’s hope the club has already or is about to secure a replacement.
Dembele was on our door step and we were closely watching him and could have got him for £500k in the summer if we were to pay £40m for him then Roman should be asking serious questions of our scouting set up.
We need to get all our transfer business done and dusted in the first few weeks of the Summer Window imo.

February 3, 2017 at 3:29 pm #1428944Dembele for 40 million would be mental!! Even if we paid half that for him he’s nowhere near experienced nor canny enough to lead the Chelsea line. Icardi…can he lead our line? He’s also a bit of a hot-head. And gets stroppy when things don’t go his way. Not sure he’s the answer. Belotti is young enough and has the talent but he’s light…72kg, and would take time to adjust to the PL. We need someone who will hit the ground running and I can’t see further than the 3 players I mentioned. Unless we can prize Aguero away from City????
February 3, 2017 at 3:39 pm #1428961When Conte was pitched the question of whether a deal has been done on Costa in his pre match press conferences today he wouldn’t be drawn into answering apart from saying next summer is a long way off and we have to focus on the now.
He really does handle the media so well.
February 3, 2017 at 3:56 pm #1428985Must admit that I really do not see the attraction of Dembele especially at 40m. Sounds ludicrous tome but what do I know…?
All I do know is that the rumour mill will be working full time and Bort will have his hands full keeping his list up to date….!!
February 3, 2017 at 4:12 pm #1429001There 4 options now for Chelsea
1) Diego remains for the next 2 seasons.
2) Bat man picks up and become a worthy replacement
3) Sell and go for Belotti whom I believe will be Conte’s choice not Dembele.
4) work on Loftus-cheek. shown some promise that he can actually play target man making the right movement based on recent games.February 3, 2017 at 4:43 pm #1429014$70 Mill seems pretty cheap for Diego, absolutely unstoppable when his on form. If we had to replace him, I guess Lukaku, Morata and Belotti would be the prime targets, $40 Mill for Dembele is pretty absurd to be honest, if not can’t see why we can’t try and move forward with Batshuayi, Abraham and Loftus-Cheek, we know that we can play false nine with Hazard-Willian-Pedro. Cause realistically speaking, I don’t think there is any striker out there similar to Diego his a raging bull
February 3, 2017 at 7:42 pm #1429082With the greatest respect to Abraham, RLC and Bats, I don’t reckon that trio of strikers is nearly good enough to win a PL or CL. We need a world class talent to replace Costa and there aren’t many out there who are young enough, good enough or available.
February 4, 2017 at 1:38 am #1429178It was never just media or written press bullshit
Bit of humble pie for some on here!!!
He’s off every man and his dog knows that so let’s stop lauding this guy
Done a job adiosFebruary 4, 2017 at 10:09 am #1429234I think we should probably all follow Conte’s advice which is to focus on the here and now and park this one until the summer.
February 6, 2017 at 8:36 am #1430718Stuilse – totally correct. KTBFFH
February 6, 2017 at 8:37 am #1430719RedPanda – what I read was that we got 60EUR for Oscar but are being quoted as 70m GBP for Costa. That is actually quite significant in terms of the different currencies (assuming that the story is actually true of course…?) KTBFFH
February 6, 2017 at 8:40 am #1430721999 – agreed. Much as some seem to relish the idea that Costa is away the fact is that we do not know for sure
What we do know is that Costa is still the man leading our line and we need him fully focussed on helping us to win the league. If he chooses to stay or go after that is another matter for the Club and Conte to resolve
The main issue is winning the league and possibly even a double with a FAC victory as well? KTBFFH
February 6, 2017 at 8:51 am #1430728well we can still talk about it personally I think he may leave and though we may miss certain aspects of his game no-one is indispensable though for now I would say Conte is probably our biggest asset and he has been linked to Inter as you all have probably read also big time Chinese owners now own Inter.
