Massive, massive embarrassment for the club if we were to spend circa £80m on a player we let go and without any buy back clause included in the contract.

The letting go of both De Bruyne and Lukaku even accepting they agitated to go has to be two of the biggest mistakes of Mourinho’s managerial career.

Fact, Costa has not been the same player since the story/non story to much of a coincidence, looked off the pace again today, yes not the only one, but something not right, hopefully he snaps out of it.

    It is a bit worrying.

If Costa doesn’t get back to somewhere near where he was before this rumour/non rumour emerged then we might struggle to get over the line.

Costa will be fine, ok he didn’t have the best game v Arsenal, yesterday he didn’t get any clear cut opportunities (he played a decent ball to set Hazard free early on against Burnley) and he had his Pen saved v Liverpool. Our run of games coming up are ‘favourable’ and we should create a fair few chances.

Just touching on chances for Costa, I still believe for the games where teams will defend deep with a lot of men it should be Fabregas > Matic from the start. Otherwise it is easy to defend against us (let us have the ball in the middle and stop our wing backs and inside forwards).

Amz great post. There is a tendency to forget at times there are two teams on the pitch, with game plans to attempt to keep Costa out of the game and some defenders are better than others!!

At times yesterday I was half expecting the stewards and police to come into the 18 yard box as a form of crowd control it got that conjested!!!!

Agree totally re Matic Fabregas switch, Kante adds the protection and Cesc has the ability to pick out that killer pass. Matic seems to be similar to Cesc from the point of view he is stronger in the first half of the season, so maybe that Cesc is fresher having not played much in the first half of the season we might see him getting more of a run out now.

anyone who cant see Costa has not been on his game the last three is deluded
the penaly box was only crowded out with Burnley players, looked like a no go zone for Chelsea players yesterday.
If we don’t have the guile to break teams down, then just shoot more, and that means on target not what happened yesterday.

I know shocking isn’t it, Costa ….. I mean why did he not score yesterday, its not like Burnley had 10 outfield players defending the penalty area every time he was on the ball, it was more like 8, how useless is he not being able to pick a hole through that!!

And what the phook was he thinking against Arsenal, assisting in two of the goals and applying pressure on Chec to make the mistake for the 3rd, what a cooont, why did he not score all 3 goals himself!!! Like WTF a striker with assists, who the fuck wants that!!!!

To make matters worse he deliberately held off on drawing the penalty until our first choice penalty take had been substituted against Liverpool.

Lets not restrict it to those 3, lets go right back to Xmas, when the lazy bar steward only scored in two of the three games he started and ONLY got MoM in one of those games…….what a complete and utter Ham Shanker!!!

Yea you guys are deluded if you cant see that Costa is off the pace!!!

passionate defence NIBlue, to be admired, but all about obsevations I suppose.
Lets park it now, and he hopefully starts scoring again, which is where we need him in tight games, as is probably going to be the case on the run in.

Importantly it seems to me that Costa is still putting in a shift so I’m hoping that this is just a temporary barren spell and there have still been some assists.

Shame about the pen at Anfield but it happens to the best, and all strikers go through barren spells even Messi went half a dozen games without a goal for Barca a while back. But we do need Costa to get back to scoring regularly shortly.

I agree on costa. He has not looke the same. Its bery worring as we have absolutley no cover. Its not just not scoring either. His touches yesterday were atrocious. I counted 5 times the ball bouncing off his feet. I counted 2 passes that could of let pedro in and he just ran striaght down a blind alley. Alonso must of crosses the ball 8 times yday and not once did costa attempt to go for it. He looks so disintrested and even the biggest chelsea fan must admit it just doesnt look good
He will 100% not be here next season
Conte needs a word with him. We need his best just for 14 more games and he is free to leave

I can’t agree mate, Costa is not in his best run of form true enough but I don’t think you can claim he isn’t trying.

We do need him to get his scoring boots back on though.

agree with Phwepsi, all bar he is not trying.
But its not about that, his touch, movenment & awareness are clearly not there, yes NIblue has pointed out some valid points, but considering he is our focal point there is to much bouncing off him, or how many times is he getting caught on the ball lately, and not playing others in.

If the tabloids are correct then it appears that costa is close to singing a new 5 year contract

I can understand if he was swayed by the lure of massive money and that it may have impacted his game but I think a tad unfair to say he is not trying..?

However, if this is true then I would fully expect him to get a rest this weekend and then come out and play as the costa we all know as he should have a clear direction on what will probably be the rest of his career

He is heavily marked but as we have seen earlier in the season, the mark of a good striker is one who can still get into decent positions and take his chances or create something out of nothing

And assuming he does stay then great pressure on Michy in the last part of the season to prove that he is capable of being the back up striker as we will need a good goal scoring replacement next season with all the extra games we will face. KTBFFH

Still no deal agreed yet though.

Assuming it does get done and sooner rather than later hopefully it will as a springboard for Costa to kick on this season which will boost our title chances.

I would sell Costa, good striker but not a £220k a week striker.

He can’t play more than 1 game per week and there is always this worry that you never know when the guy is going to lose his cool on/off the field. Also I think Chelsea have played their best attacking football when he hasn’t played, too often he gets the ball stuck in his feet and doesn’t see the man over. He probably “costa” us 3-5 scoring opportunities over the last 2-3 games. Lastly he never scores more than 1 goal in a game and I can name quite a few games where he has had more than 2 or 3 score-able chances other leading strikers would score.

As I said good striker but think we could do better.

Do we really want costa to stay? Every season there is always soemthing that happens with him that causes unrest or bother. I think its a bit silly. A 5 year contract for a 29? Year old just doesnt make sense either. No one at chelsea past 30 gets more than a 1 year deal. I feel like we are slightly been held to ransom by him here

If we keep him. We HAVE to bring in a quality striker in the summer. I would be happy with him and morata

Tend to agree, seems a bit of a panic contract if it turns out as reported.
Thing who is better than will come to Chelsea or the PL for that matter.
The real top players just are not coming here anymore.

Bort – I would be prepared to give Costa the benefit if the doubt

I have to assume that Conte is happy with what he sees on the pitch and during training (plus by all accounts he is goods in the dressing room as well). I do not know where you get the he cannot play more than a game a week from (did I miss something..?) but as per the earlier comment surely the management feel he can otherwise why pay silly money..?

As for his attitude I think it was clear that he was bad when he did not get on with Jose but under Conte he appears to be a changed animal and as a Club we are so far reaping the benefits. I guess “a leopard never changes its spots” comes to mind and that Costa could revert at some time to the player of the past – but I assume that is a calculated gamble we are prepared to take

Cannot argue with your stats regarding goals per game and wasting chances but I would argue that he is the figurehead of our attack and does breed fear into defenders and does have a good understanding with Hazard

Could we do better?, honestly I am not sure but I assume it is possible, but we do have a striker on form, currently apparently happy in his game, with the Club and manager and someone who is already well versed in the requirements of the EPL (which for me anyway will always be the main target for any season).
