Is he really?Because I don’t seem to think we should be spending so much money on him.I’m not going to debate whether he’s a good striker or not,of course he is.But what really is the difference between walcott and him?The only thing I can think of is that his heading ability is a bit better. We need someone who can get in the faces of defenders and physically match them, and also make runs behind defenders and score,a hybrid of Giroud and Walcott. If you gave me a budget and gave me the option of either Aubamayeng or Hummels for the long term,I’d go for the latter. However,I don;t know what wenger’s doing for the short term. Why isn’t el nenny signed yet?If anything we need to sign midfielders asap.

Why do you think it’s all about ‘physically matching defenders’ it’s not. Aguero doesn’t bully defenders, nor does Suarez. I mean, you wouldn’t back either them two to bully someone like Kompany or any of the premier leagues more rugged defenders, now would you? They all have been successful in their respective positions simply because they harry defenders, get into intelligent positions by movement and play off their shoulder. Henry was the same, did you ever see him just shove defenders aside? No. What he did was leave them on the floor for sheer pace, guile and know how. Walcott doesn’t posses that in my opinion that’s why he will never thrive as a lone centre forward.

As for Aubamyang, no thank you. He’s another headless chicken in my opinion, I’ve watched him play, lightning quick but not quick WITH the ball, a big difference. I don’t care about his stats and how many goals per game he’s got, even Giroud has them patches for us. I honestly don’t know who we could get, maybe he’s yet to be discovered…

With Giroud, it seems that many have made up their minds, and always think the grass is greener in regards to other strikers.

It wasnt that long ago, that Benteke and Bony were both seen as genuinely better footballers than Giroud, which was, and is, just total rubbish. Jackson Martinez is another player who was considered an improvement, but is really struggling in Spain. If we had of bought Martinez and played him upfront, we wouldnt be top of the league. In fact, Benteke, Bony, Remy, Mandzukic, Charlie Austin, Pato, Martinez have all been suggested as alternatives to Giroud. The problem is however, is Giroud is better/has played better, than every single one of them.

The reality is, that Giroud is a high quality player. If we put him up for sale, he wouldnt go to Barcelona or Real Madrid, but clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Athletico Madrid, Valencia, and the big Italian clubs would all show interest.

His first season as pretty slow, but in the last 3 years he has scored exactly 56 goals in 112 matches. Bang on a goal every two games.

Have to agree with you there Syd I do think Giroud is highly underrated and used a scape goat because he is not the quality of past strikers or the top top strikers today, unfortunately the top top strikers are few and far between and already at massive clubs

no sure about aubangeyang as never seen him play myself

but there MUST be up coming stars that will turn in to the new suarez etc so guess we need to dig a little or make a statement and pay BIG money

bsm walk – You have a point in using Aguero and Suarez as examples of striker not necessarily needing to match them physically. However Henry used to shove off defenders all the time.I don’t know it’s a matter of perception,I’ve always wanted tall striker who have great heading ability but with good movement and finishing.Strikers like Higuain and benzema come to mind.

Syd – Well like I said Giroud is the most under appreciated striker and definitely a scapegoat.People love to blame him,he will sit on the bench and will still get blamed it’s so pathetic sometimes. If we can be top of the league with half season gone, then there’s no reason why we can’t go full season with him as the striker. He has a better goals per game ratio than drogba if I’m correct.

I would absolutely hate Higuain to join Arsenal. It would be a complete waste of money. He’s rubbish.

Giroud has been working with the team for years and has developed into a very important player. Plus he has far more quality than Higuain in basically every aspect of the game (except perhaps, pace).

Plus he would deprive Welbeck of opportunities and he isn’t good enough to be allowed that sort of privilege.
