Many of the Henderson doubters would have been amused at the suggestion that Spurs were interested in signing him.Last night’s international might put a different perspective on the situation.Dier, Henderson and Deli Ali looked a formidable prospect that may look increasingly attractive to Henderson. If Klopp can get a similar balance in midfield we would be crazy to get rid of a player of his influence and energy.Perhaps The shrewd Spurs manager sees something in Henderson that many of our fans just can’t see!

Henderson at his best is undoubtedly a very good player but he hasn’t shown it this season which could be down to the injury, he was excellent in the 13/14 season and spells of last season as well…I for one hope we keeep him on at least for another season and if we do sell him we would have the sense to not sell to a direct rival…

also you are spot on about balance Spodge we should be playing Coutinho as the creative midfielder alongside Hendo and a new midfield enforcer/Can

Dier, Henderson & Ali is a poor man’s Mascherano, Alonso & Gerrard combination. I don’t mean that they are in the same standard, I just mean that they are of similar style.

Henderson & Emre Can is a good partner, together with Milner forms a midfield with 110% work rate but they are just a little bit not balanced.

Henderson, Can & Milner are nearly players of the same style. None of them are creative enough like Alonso and none of them are defensive specialist like Mascherano. Under Klopp’s system, they are protecting the CBs well. That’s why an aged Toure and even Lucas can play well in the CB spot. (Pls don’t tell me the Southampton game).

If we can sign Modric & Kane, problems sorted but it can only happen in football manager. Just can’t understand how can our scouts missed out Ali, if they cannot find out the difference between Ali & a youngster in championship, they cannot be a scout.

Now we are being linked with Leandro Paredes and Zielinski, both of them are Alonso style players. If we really sign either one of them, probably it will replace Allen. I don’t know too much about both of them, just hope we can sign another Alonso.

I remember we were after a couple of lads that Spurs beat us to & how did they turn out. Just because Spurs may be interested doesn’t mean squat. Henderson is an improved squad player that has a good work ethic & that’s it. If he remains our captain & we rely on him to influence important games or take games by the scruff & lead us to victory we are in some trouble. He has a very good game here & there but goes missing more often than not. If he were as good as some on here make out we’d have some player on our hands.

Number8 if Henderson is so moderate how come Roy played him last night when it appears the are so many better options available? You also suggest that other players tha Spurs beat us to didn’t turn out to be anything special. Errrr…Gareth Bale and Deli Ali????

Shouldn’t we judge players by their performances for Liverpool rather than their international performances?

Billi yes of course we should but how good would Hendersonn be for us if he had deli Ali and Can to play with? Are people suggesting we have no further use for him long before Klopp has time to develop his plans? Seems as though some of our fans make a decision about a player and then cling on to it for grim death!

    Good squad player.

Will be interesting to see how he fairs next year if we get more recruits in midfield as well as Grujic.

Spodge I’m talking more recently than Bale & our scouts didn’t want/rate Deli Ali (which yes was a mistake by them). I can’t think of the name but he was a midfielder who we chased but Spurs beat us to him & he turned out a dud. The other I was thinking of was Willian or what ever his name was that ended up going to chelski so my bad there. The point is just because spurs may be interested in Henderson doesn’t make him a top player.
As for Hodgson picking him, he also signed Koncheski so make of that what you will. Henderson played well in a friendly, much like how he occasionally plays well for us.
I’m not making a decision on Henderson based on anything other than his time at Liverpool & whether you like it or not the reality is he has been average more often than not for us & if we are serious in trying to become a top club again players like Henderson should be squad players not the captain.
Some people on here base their decision on a player because of the shirt he wears, not what he actually does on the pitch.

Henderson has pretty good stats for a midfielder:
    – 7 goals 9 assists in 2014/15,
    – 4 goals 7 assists in 2013/14,
    – 6 goals 6 assists in 2012/13

But this season his performance dipped a lot, only 2 goals 3 assists so far. No doubt he is still affected by that heel injury.

Pochettino is a fantastic manager, the players he bought has mostly been performing very well and they didn’t cost a lot. I just can’t see Klopp selling our captain to our direct rival.

What is fascinating about the Hendo-fans is that they don’t even realise how rarely they get an opportunity to say he played well for club or country. For England, he played ‘ok’ yesterday in the 2nd half – and that’s it.
This idea that because a player plays for his country makes him a quality player is flawed. England did well to come back yesterday. But if you’re honest, Germany took their foot off the pedal after going up 2-0 and paid the price.
The thought that Henderson can influence a game is a ridiculous one. He’s the type of player that plays well once his team are leading or dominating the game. Once his team is losing, he goes into super-safe mode and the ball becomes a hot potato that he’s happy to offload to anyone, anywhere at anytime. He leads from behind the sofa, pointing everywhere while ducking headers and shirking challenges.
Add to that, he’s pretty useless in front of goal.

As captain, I think it’s nailed on that he’ll still be with us next season. But if Spurs want to take him on, I’ll happily drive to Anfield, pick him up and drive him to The Lane.

If he had been born 10 years earlier, it’s unlikely he would even have had a sniff of international football. Imagine him trying to dislodge Gerrard, Lampard or Scholes. No way!

He’s an average player who flatters to deceive most times. He’s more brylcreamed actor than footballer – always standing around free-kicks (like he can do anything meaningful with them). You can see him asking himself ‘what would Gerrard do here’ and he tries to copy it. Decent squad player and great for injury-time subs but little end product or impact on a game…Peace

Totally agree with you on this one Davinci. Yes Hendo has been carrying an injury but from what I understand he’ll always have to. Can’t believe the Spurs link is genuine. They have better than him now.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see us sell him though if we get a decent offer.
We will see Klopp’s trye thoughts on players over next two Summer transfer windows. He’s been forced to make do with the players he inherited this year but in my mind the following players could be sold / released :
Hendo, Milner, Allen, Ibe , Teixeira,, Yesil,
Toure, Enrique (obviously) , Skrtel, Ballotelli, Benteke,

    … *true …
….Bogdan , Caulker, Smith, Rossiter, Wisdom, Williams,
.. oh and maybe Luis Alberto if he’s playing well enough to merit a decent fee. What do other posters think?

If the spuds want Hendo we should bite their hands off. 40-45mil.. No less. Hendo has shown he can function effectively in a good team. I remember thinking after he was sent off against city 2 season’s ago that this could cost us the title. He’s good at what he does. Providing an extra man at both ends of the pitch. He’s never going to have Gerrard’s quality going forward or Mascherano’s defensive abilities because that isn’t his style. We need better players alongside him so he can support them. In an average team his function is diminished because of the lack of quality at both ends of the pitch and he can’t provide that. He just isn’t the type of player to carry a team on his shoulders but a decent and important one nonetheless. All I can say is it’s going to be a big summer for us but if Hendo leaves he will leave another void in this team that we would need to fill.

Lets see, according to most posters here we should sell Mignolet, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno, Lucas, Henderson, Lallana, Milner, Benteke, Sturridge and a few other players down the pecking order.

Arent you contradicting yourself a little there Razor? You just said that Hendo can only function in a good team, any average player can look good in a team filled with world class player. Just look at how Suarez made us look good a few years back. Any good player can function in an average team, and if Hendo cant, it just proves that he is nothing but an average player.

Once again Davinci demonstrates his naivety and lack of understanding of the modern game.I thought I was the dinosaur! It is no coincidence that Roy chose a front five from the two clubs that use the high pressing game and it worked. Lallana is no Messi but he is excellent in this system. If the manageris going to play that System Henderson is a good pick. Some of Davinci’s language used to describe Hendesrson “Brylceem!” suggests a personal dislike which does nothing for the objectivity of his argument. If you can only judge Henderson’s footballing abilities agains the likes of Gerrard et al he obviously comes up short but if you relied on Gerrard playing with Henderson’s discipline and eagerness to press and cover, forget it.The sum of the team is always greater than it’ parts.

I take Spodge’s point above, but if we are to challenge for the top end prizes over the coming years then competition will be fierce. In such an environment, it comes down to the fine margins because the teams are evenly matched. This means players are more exposed in terms of what they offer. Henderson offers us important things, but are they enough at the top level of the game?

Mikus, agreed, but I believe that Henderson still has much to offer in whatever squad Klopp builds next season. If Klopp embraced a different football philosophy then perhaps thing might be different! If Klopp wishes to implement the high pressing game, Henderson will be invaluable.

The most natural transition we could make after Rodgers was Klopp with his high pressing philosophy.

Henderson has always excelled in terms of work rate. It was one of the main reasons why he was brought to the club. He fits well into any system Klopp might use.
The same goes for Lallana and a number of other players at the club.

FSG and Klopp are moving the team in a certain direction in playing style. Fans would be ill advised to think that a massive overhaul is going to happen this summer.

I highly doubt we will see many departures from the first team. Toure, Enrique and perhaps Allen will leave, same goes for a few players that are away on loan but not much else will happen.
