Lucky, ha ha you’re right mate.?

I’ll kick it off with Michael Keane ( really not sure about that link), Sakho who is on his way out of Liverpool and I see the Italian press are linking us with Bonucci again ( really can’t see that happening in January), then there’s Ben Davies at Spurs?

Seen the fee quoted for keane too! crazy crazy market. would be nice to see a utd reject develop into a worldie for us tho.

The way I see it though we have needed two defenders for a while. an upgrade on cahill and a replacement for terry.(excluding the full back problem, which fingers crossed alonso will solve). imo luiz is an upgrade on cahill, but we cant mess about with who we purchase next. Bonucci and chiellini as unlikely as they seem are exactly the type of defender we need and that conte deserves to be provided with if roman wants CL football and title challenges.

Ben davies is a very decent full back but we would be silly to pay what spurs would probably demand, has at least 2 years on his contract left surely?

If I can indulge myself, I would love to see bonucci come in and would give up matic and fabregas for a player like nainngolan or vidal. I MISS YOU FRANK LAMPARD 🙁

Is it worth paying £50m for a 29 yr old in Bonucci?

There’s not many “up and coming” World Class CBs coming through. Ideally I would go for Romagnoli from AC Milan.

Break the bank for Marco Verratti! Exactly the player we need in midfield. The kind of player you hate when he is against you, but would love if he was in your team. I think he would be an absolute beast in the premier league. I don’t think we’ve ever been linked with him, but would be a dream signing.

fantastic player BL, agree he would be great in this league.

AMZ, we cant mess around with terry’s replacement, bonucci is one of a select group of players that could possibly fill this void. so to answer your question, in todays market for the quality assured with bonucci, 50m is rational if affordable imo, even if he only plays at his top level for another 3/4 years.

Sign Bonucci, Romagnoli. Keane, Sakho, Verati and the list goes on!. How about looking inwards at our under-23 and promote promising defenders to the first team. This obsession of looking outside for solution has to stop.

Wise fan, I guess we should be asking who was it that agreed a 2 year loan deal for Christensen?

But it’s contracted and there’s no chance of getting him back if Monchengladbach don’t want to lose him and seemingly they don’t in fact they are so keen to hang on to him that they’ve tried to offer us big money to sign him permanently.

I’m a big Verrati fan. Very difficult though to sign big name players in the January window.

    Verrati, absolutely no chance.
So here we are already discussing January transfer targets, as per previously mentioned on another thread, to attract anything half decent will be seriously big money and pulling power which at this present time we have neither.
Time to forget and marquee signings the club has to start with promoting within and hope we can come with some gems, so we can just get rid of the dross at least.

Pylon, I think you’re right re Verrati and players of that ilk being signed in the January window.

Be interesting to see whether there is any truth in the rumours of Roman looking to back Conte in the January window and if there is whether we can get anywhere near our preferred targets.

I agree that I did put this thread up a tad early but I did so because posts were beginning to go up about new signings and I thought one thread to capture all the thoughts made the most sense. Cheers 999

you can bend the rules whichever way you want. if you believe that it was the manager who signed Fabregas, Costa, Zouma and Pedro, then that decision was made by the current Manchester United Manager and i guess you know who that is? but if you believe the otherway round and its the DF or TD which makes the signings, then we should be knocking Emenalo’s door. but whoever made that decision and i guess it was made in the summer of 2015, clearly that manager knew what he was doing, even if he didn’t made that decision, well at least it had his consent.

somebody needs to advice Conte if this article is true and that AC Milan is serious about paying £39m for Oscar. Oscar was not good enough for Chelsea and will never be good enough for Chelsea. if we can negotiate this deal and try to snatch that defender which Conte is said to rate although i have not seen him. then it will be fantastic. or we should squeeze maximum from them. £50m isn’t bad deal. you demnd more even your flops as we have seen other clubs do.

Whoever made the decision on a 2 year loan deal for Christensen it was foolish it’s especially when our normal practice is a season long loan and it should have had a get out clause after the first season.

I would roll the Christensen 2 year loan deal into the need to investigate our whole transfer strategy over the last two seasons.

NotNice – interesting article especially with the 5 players named – and yet in some, possibly all, of the cases it is hard to disagree

The good news is that apart from Ivanovic they are all reasonable enough players who would attract some decent cash in the transfer market or could be used as bait for player exchanges

cannot see that we/he could accomplish everything in January as that is normally a tough time to buy good plays as predominantly they are already playing in the CL and of course we do not have that to offer. And yet if we do not turn this season around quickly we may not be able to offer that next season either – which would have a bad knock on effect

I think a lot depends on how much Conte can convince Roman and will he stump up the cash in January or wait for the Summer…? (and not forgetting that Simeone will be available in the summer who many felt was a better fit at Chelsea in terms of style…?). KTBFFH
