Very unlike Gary Neville to keep his mouth shut when Jurgen was interviewed post game last night. Whoever the Sky anchor and Carra asked all the questions and Neville just stood there. Shithouse. ..he could have buried last week’s disagreement but I reckon he was afraid of what Jurgen would say. As it happens what Neville said about Karius, I by and large agree with but he missed the chance to bury the hatchet last night. It looked weak
December 20, 2016 at 1:27 pm #1381465HH>> Yes, I was thinking exactly the same thing as I was watching it. Klopp had him on toast last week and he was scared that he’d be pumpernickel under the grill again.
Germans, in general, are not renowned for their sense of humour (although these national stereotypes probably don’t stand up to a great deal of scrutiny). However, whether it was “off the cuff” or pre=planned, but his remark “The pundits, former players most of them, forgot completely how it felt when they got criticised. Especially the Neville brothers – the one who was the manager – he obviously should know that too much criticism never helps.” That was pure genius, worthy of Shankly, with the subtle hint that they are of such little significance to him that he doesn’t even know which one is which!
December 20, 2016 at 1:42 pm #1381501Was it pre planned and I still do not know what Neville did wrong, this is what Carragher said about the keeper
This goalkeeper is yet to convince me in any game he’s played that he’s of the required standard. It’s early days but there needs to be a massive improvement. He hasn’t done anything in those game he played that’s impressed me.

This week defending across the Premier League has been absolutely embarrassing. My advice to Karius would be to shut up and do your job. Karius’ confidence is all over the place, he does the hokey-cokey when he comes out for the second goal and then he freezes.
Yet Klopp took it out on Neville and turned it tribal. Klopp a few days later dropped Karius and confirmed it was because he did not play well. Also Neville did not retaliate to Karius comments, it was Carragher who told him to shut up.
December 20, 2016 at 1:44 pm #1381507Its not about Karius or Mignolet starting, its about making the situation so that we have competition for places, so both keepers actually improve.
This is the first season I´ve witnessed with Mignolet in the team without the mistakes, its because Karius has pushed him to become a better keeper.
Throwing silly arguments about Karius or Mignolet being bad keepers does nothing for us but sticking by them and pushing them to become better does.December 20, 2016 at 1:47 pm #1381516Gary Neville is one of the best pundits.
December 20, 2016 at 2:00 pm #1381573How can Gary Neville be one of the best pundits when he lets his natural bias flavour most of the stuff he says. Did you hear him at half-time yesterday? Replaying some of the first-half “highlights” and someone from Everton crossed from their left towards Lukaku; but Klavan got to the ball first and made a good, but fairly regulation, centre-back clearance. So how dig Gary describe it? “Everton were unlucky there”.
December 20, 2016 at 2:06 pm #1381594I agree with liverlad re Neville being the best pundit on TV and Neville is critical of all both clubs and players when it’s justified Inc United and their players too and given that Klopp dropped Karius which is the biggest criticism possible was Neville wrong?
Also as CM rightly points out Carragher was just as critical if not more critical but Klopp ignored what Carrsgher had said seemingly wanting to turn it into a United v Liverpool clash.
There was a Sunday Supplement Special on Sunday and Neville has plenty to say about his criticism and Klopp’s/ Liverpool’s reaction to it you can get it on Catch Up on Sky if anyone is interested.
December 20, 2016 at 2:10 pm #1381609…and can you recall him being “on the mike” in the Liverpool/Man Utd fixture earlier this season? Quite out of character, Man Utd actually started the game quite brightly and were on the front foot for approx. 10 minutes. Gary was obviously creaming his shreddies over this and was even beginning to make mini-version noises of when Torres scored against Barcelona. The fact that Liverpool then totally dominated the next 80 minutes took a long time to register with our Gaz and it was only in his post-match analysis when he realised that he’d look such an out of touch twat if he did not concede that Liverpool probably just edged it. Total t@sser in my mind.
December 20, 2016 at 2:24 pm #1381666999>> You just don’t get it do you? Neville’s “balance” only comes into play when it is so mind-blowingly obvious that adopting any other position would call his professional integrity into question.
As regards the Karius issue, the point was not whether his performances warranted any media criticism or not. It was the fact that the bretheren were telling him to “keep his gob shut” when Karius was keeping a pre-booked 45 minute interview with Ian Ladyman. This topic was clearly going to arise and of course he had to give his reaction which was, certainly in my opinion, actually very cool, calm and collected.
December 20, 2016 at 2:28 pm #1381678I hated G Neville as a player, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by him as a pundit. I don’t think he’s overly critical of us, as you would expect. Klopp has a good sense of humour, as he’s shown on numerous occasions, and he was being smart by making any criticism seem like a ManU LFC thing. Circle the wagons 😉
December 20, 2016 at 3:16 pm #1381774I wasn’t too impressed with any of the comments made about Karius from anyone at Sky but I’m glad it was left as it’s less time that Karius is under the media spotlight. Mignolet is doing just fine for us so far, the defence looks more confident since the change back and now Karius gets to settle in, work hard and wait for his chance.
As for Neville or Carra or whoever it is, the one constant is Sky. Murdoch loves to cultivate and sell drama. Not everything that’s said in post match discussions or MNF etc are the actual opinion of the ex-pro but a subject or angle that they have been instructed to broach.
December 20, 2016 at 3:18 pm #1381780Whether one agreeS with Nevilles assessment of Karius or not, he bottled it big time last night!
December 20, 2016 at 3:45 pm #1381804….and he also showed an embarrassingly inept knowledge of the basic laws of the game when attempting to analyse whether Silva was offside for Sterling’s goal on Sunday. He started discussing whether Silva was interfering with Cech’s eyeline when the ball was kicked as opposed to when the ball reached the area where Cech would be engaging with it. This was total nonsense and he was getting confused with the basic offside law. Nobody was contesting whether Silva was in an “offside” position or not – it was clear to see by about 5 yards! The issue is whether Silva interfered in Cech’s ability to make the save at any time during the ball’s path towards goal; not just when the ball was kicked.
I’m a bit intrigued as to why everyone seems to think he’s a good pundit. I can only assume that you’re taken in by the fact that his delivery is fairly confident and assured, but the substance doesn’t quite match up to the style.
December 20, 2016 at 3:50 pm #1381816Mignolet should continue in goals until either Karius has earned the shirt or Mignolet is so bad that we are left with no choice.
Karius needs to up his standards and force his way into the team, not simply be given the shirt.
Mignolet did pretty well last night. While not having to make any major saves he did what he had to very well with little fuss. He came rushing out of his box at the appropriate times to clean up and came to collect when needed.
Let Karius earn the shirt through training and cup games.December 20, 2016 at 5:58 pm #1381948I don’t think there is any doubt that Migs will in nets for the foreseeable future, with the likely exception of the FA Cup games. This is so obviously the right decision
December 20, 2016 at 8:05 pm #1382020Red Herring, ha, ha , we all see things differently mate be a boring old football site if we didn’t.
I couldn’t stand Neville as a player and wasn’t looking forward to him being a pundit but imo he does a very good job and is probably again imo the best there is.
Have a look at what Garry Neville said on the Karius situation on the Sunday Supplement it’s still available on Sky it didn’t look like he was running away from anything on there.
But it’s all yesterday’s fish and chip paper now buddy. Karius has been dropped by Klopp and I can’t see too much changing now certainly in the short to medium term time to move on and put it all to bed now. Cheers 999
December 21, 2016 at 4:33 am #1382146Me too, I cringed when I heard that Neville was going to be a pundit. As far as pundits go, he’s superior to most when talking about the game.
