I think it will go quiet till later in the week, so I’d be very interested if there are any takers on this one. During the past few years I’ve read posts from some/most of you which has helped me form impressions, but really, I know nothing about you other than you are, like me, diehard City fans. So I figure that Brian, Jim, Psycho, Lalunableu, Max, Adlab, Dave, Goatista, Bluemoon are all in Manchester, but Melbourneblue must be in Oz, and others elsewhere perhaps? I’m interested to know more about you guys. I know it’s not for everyone, but here goes anyway. Me, born in SA, at 21 travelled to England; lived in London for three years then came over to Vancouver in 1972; been here ever since. Three kids, Rory (33), Bronwyn (31), Ben (30). Been a City fan since 1969 (thanks to Colin, Francis and Mike) and have travelled over the pond several times these past few years to watch City play. That’s me, how about you?

Gday mate ,your right about me being in Melbourne, came here in the late 80,s but i was born and bread a Manc.
Like wise,i have been over/back several times, family and football, and I still get up in the middle of the night to silently scream, without waking up the missus.
Grand kids are all City supporters

Mancunian born and bred, now living in a Pennine village approx 22 mile North from Etihad Stadium. 4 children, 11 grandchildren, (expensive) First game City v Everton..we lost 3-1 1944 season Frank Swift my hero, even to day. Have travelled the world many times but always glad to be home, no more travelling for me such distances, had enough for more than a lifetime. Best game I have watched…City v Plymouth Christmas Day, we just won 4-3 next day, Boxing day, they played Plymouth again in Plymouth!!!!! We won again. Cannot see our pampered players of to day doing that. I have seen many great players and characters of the game my only regret is the tribal fan base of to day, gone are the days when we stood shoulder to shoulder and had good banter. The game is over managed to day. In all the 71 seasons of watching I could only pick maybe a dozen players from City I would put on MY pedestal, different for everyone of course

Seriously though, born in North Manchester lived there for 40 years, married, one son, I am now living in Yorkshire. Started going to City in 1973 from a school trip – got the bug, season ticket holder for 40 years. Likes; reading, walking, most sports and horses (blame the wife!)

Living in, er, Surrey but born in Manchester quite a while ago and went to Uni there. First match was v. Blackpool in 1956 ( lost 3-0) with Bert Trautmann still crocked. The matches I enjoyed watching the most were probably from the 1967/8 season: Spurs (on ice), Utd away and Newcastle away. I think I got more from the Mercer/Allison spell than recent success but that’s mostly down to my dislike of the hype around the game in general. I also agree with many of Brian Blue’s comments.
Married for 40 plus years ( somehow) with two daughters and one grand daughter. So lots of football chat at home over the years….
Anyway, good suggestion Huntr and look forward to what others have to say.

31 and from Warrington. My Grandad was a red and took my father to watch United v City, he turned around and said ‘I like that team in blue, Dad’ he was never taken to a match again and turned his two younger brothers into City fans. As a newborn, Dad took me to Maine Road and held me up to the floodlights! Sadly my father died unexpectedly on 22nd October. He leaves us top of of the table – after years of watching dross, being a City fan has finally turned out well! Now a father myself I look forward to taking my little girl (15 months old) to watch City. Hopefully, she will never have some of the dross that I had to endure !

Gentlemen, thanks for taking the time to share. Six of you is more than I’d hoped for. Melbourne, mate, I had to laugh when you mentioned getting up in the middle of the night to “silently scream”. I do likewise usually at 7am over here unless the game is the early or late one. Brian, always the voice of reason. Surrey Blue, you nailed it regarding Brian’s comments. I echo those sentiments. Brian, we’ve all got a lot of catching up to do. Adlab, 1956 Cup Final is going back a ways too. You’ve experienced lots of ups and downs for sure but still come back for more. Hardcore for sure, but how you can find the time during games to make comments online I find hard to understand. I get too engrossed and cannot focus on anything else until the end whistle is blown. You must be a good multi-tasker, or perhaps you’re just easily distracted. Love your comments though. Laluna, you’re a funny guy and by the looks of things, a ‘dogperson’. Me too. I think you were way too kind in your comments about Wilsonian. I think you could have been a tad more abusive, as he certainly deserves it. Surrey Blue, I too thought the Mercer/Allison combo was special, but of course we cannot ignore the talent they had onhand. Regardless, we all know that the wrong manager can find a way to screw up a good thing. They didn’t, at least not until near the end. Finally, Timothy, I’m sure the others are with me when I convey my sincere condolences regarding your Dad’s passing. At 31, you’re a big part of our new generation of solid City fans. Long may you continue to wave the flag, and get all your mates in Manchester to do likewise. Okay, now time to focus on Saturday’s encounter with Klopp’s team. Personally I’m sorry we didn’t get him, but that’s another story. Cheers from Vancouver.

I resided in beautiful Cape Town all my life….started supporting City in 1977.
We had a local team then called Cape Town City, abbreviated as City its main local opponents was a team called Hellenic. Hence my love for Manchester City. Cape Town is infested with Manure fans and gives me great pleasure to put one over them whenever City wins trophies. I have one grandson (1 year old) and trying to convince him to support City but have strong competition from his father who is a Manure fan. Watched City once in Cape Town at the Athlone Stadium playing a local team called Santos.

Thanks Huntr for a fascinating topic that allows us casual posters to learn a little about the regulars that keep us so entertained. Becoming a City supporter, for me, was pure chance, As a 14 year old boy, living in Sale, I was at a loose end on Easter Monday 1945 and went into town to explore. Walking along Princess Road in Moss Side, I saw masses of people converging on roads leading off and, being curious, I followed them to the enormous structure that was Maine Road. I purchased my penny programme and only then discovered that the match was City v Stockport County. I decided to hand over my pocket money and entered the Magic Kingdom. We lost 5 -1 but that didn’t matter, I was overwhelmed by the atmosphere and, like Brian Blue, by the showmanship of big Frank (Swift). The rest is history. I thank the heavens that it was City and not United (who were ground sharing at the time) that were playing as I might have ended up a Red!

    Good idea boys!

I’m down in London for work, with family all back in Manc and season tickets since 1998 (the glory days!). struggle to get up for mid week games (hence having to put up with BT sport!) but there for all home games and some away.

I’m a Performance Psychologist (hence the name) specialising in occupational and sport Psychology, whilst also consulting in the Fitness industry to pay the rest of the bills!

I’m also a competitive American Football player … for at least one more season (getting on a bit! 😉 ) … which tends to make me draw parallels in some of my posts with the pathetic antics that the modern day footballer gets up to on the field!

Hi fellas, younger years spent obsessed with climbing with just a passing interest in football. In 87 a fall in Scottish highlands nearly ends everything and curtails my climbing ambitions somewhat. Sister marries a blue and in early 88 he takes me to a game, cup Portsmouth or possibly Plymouth tbh I can’t remember. Within a year I was hooked, mostly been a season ticket holder since 96, 1 season aside when I went to nearly every game anyway. Live in Cheshire and my kids are blues, we all go, even the wife occasionally! Foundation engineer by trade. Other passions in life are motorbikes, walking and rock music. Jim

Great to see a few more of you joining the party. Tommy, what a marvelous city in which to live. Yeah, I’ve heard that there are loads of bandwagon Manure fans in CT. Pity them! Did you ever hear of the music of Sixto Rodriguez in the early 70’s from which was produced the amazing “Searching for Sugarman” movie? Adlab, I’m ignorant when it comes to electronic gizmos. Sorry for my comment. Cityfred, what a compelling story. Good (best) colour choice. Psycho, you must have very interesting views on what makes Yaya sometimes play like a world beater and other times like he couldn’t care less. Please explain? Finally, Jim, good to get a better sense of who you are. Rock-climbing…no way, Jose. That would scare the crap out of me, although my Bronwyn assures me that it’s a piece of cake.
Now to Saturday’s game. Milner will be up for it bigtime. I figure he will have lots to prove. Do we know for sure that Aguero and Silva will play, if only for part of the game? With the boring International break, I’ve had to manage my withdrawal pains very delicately, but my meds are now beginning to wear off and each day it gets more stressful. Please hurry up, Saturday.

Well I live in Sweden in a small Town in the cold North called Skellefteå.

Still recall my first City Memory. Back then you could not choose what team you wanted to se on the tv and you could only se one game a weak and i hated football back then. My Father Always used to sleep to them matches but you could not change the chanel then i got pissed off. Anyway as he lies there sleeping and i had nothing to do i thought well let´s give this match a chans Think it was City-Sheffield Wednesday not sure about the opponent.

Then i viewed a tall man in light blue shirt Niall Quinn and boy i thought he was great and he became my first City Idol then there where others Kinkladze, Goater, Benarbia, Dickov and many others.

I have loved City for approximately 25 years i´m 36 now no kids but a great women.
But i live in shame, that under my 25 years i have NEVER!!! been to Manchester and to see them live it´s outrageous i had a ticket to se them against Arsenal but then Arsenal Qualify to the next level in cl so the match was postponed.

I did see them here in Sweden first season when Svennis was in charge they had a training camp in Varberg Joe Harts first senior season i Think.

But in 2016 i have promised my self that i will go to Manchester to pursue a long Dream to see them live and take a stadium tour

Nice thread, Huntr – only just seen it. I was born In Ashton-under-Lyne, v close to the Etihad. Lived in Derbyshire but went to Sixth Form in Manchester, near Moss Side. Used to go and watch training at Platt Lane on my lunch breaks. First City game was Norwich, 6-0 in FA Cup run of 1981. After university (Lancaster), I got a job in Carlisle and have been here ever since. Three kids all City fans, aged 20, 19, 16. Wife converted from family’s Notts Forest into a blue over the years. Melbourne Blue – I’ve got in-laws in Port Melbourne, enabling me to get to both City matches at the MCG in July…Great experience.

First time on the new forum but used to contribute every now and then in the old style forum.

City fan since I was born in 72 thanks to my father (mancunian family) although we lived in London until 81 which was i attended my first game – drab 0-0 draw to Spurs in the season after the cup final.

Season ticket holder since then although I had a brief sabbatical whilst I lived in central London between 95-01 although I got to a lot of the Div1 games and went at home reasonably regular

Now live in Northwich, season ticket in family stand and can easily get tickets if the regulars in here ever in need / want to visit and are in need of a ticket. Have two lads who join me every game (one who is at the Crewe Alex academy U16, so it’s interesting to watch the local youth teams to compare and contrast styles and attitudes)

Favourite player – Kinkladze or Corrigan
Favourite current – Silva or Aguero

    Favourite City memories:
    1. Agueroooo
    2. Dickov
    3. Niall Quinn v Derby
